What is ESOL?

¿Qué es ESOL?

• ESOL stands for English Speakers of Other Languages.

• The program is designed to assist, teach, and support students who speak other languages or have family that speak other languages in the home.

• Students are scored with a language assessment test and grouped by English proficiency levels. Some students come to a small group with the ESOL teacher, and others are monitored independently by the ESOL teacher.

• ESOL representa aprendedores de ingles o otros Idiomas nativos.

• El diseñado del programa es para ayudar, enseñar, y para apoyar a estudiantes que hablan otros idiomas o tienen familia que habla otros idiomas en el hogar.

• Los estudiantes son escogidos con una prueba de evaluación del idioma y serán agrupados por sus niveles. Algunos estudiantes vienen a un pequeño grupo con el maestro de ESOL, y otros son servidos independiente por el maestro de ESOL.

• My child will have accommodations in class due to the fact that he/she is acquiring a new language.

• My child will have a lower teacher to student ratio while in small groups.

What can I do at home?

¿Qué puedo hacer en casa?

• Look at your child’s agenda daily.

• The agenda serves as a communication tool between you and the classroom teacher.

• Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats well.

• Get the personal ID codes for the power schools and review the grades your child has with your child.

How do I help with homework?

• Have your child tell you about his/her day. Ask him or her to describe what occurred at school.

• Complete homework assignments the best way you can. Some teachers translate the instructions. (Speak to your teacher about this.) Students usually know the routine after being in school for about one month.

• Que su niño le diga acerca de su día. Pregúntale sobre lo que hicieron en la escuela.

How do I visit my child special activities?¿Cómo puedo visitar a mi niño para actividades

• Parents, visitors, guests (all non-school personnel) must sign in at the front office.

• Photo identification is needed. A driver’s license is preferred, but a government type photo ID is accepted.

• Visitors must wear school-issued ID tags while in the building. The tag must be turned in when the visitor is ready to exit the building.

• Los padres, visitantes, invitados (todos los que no trabajan en la escuela) deben firmar su precencia en la oficina.

• Una licencia de conducir es preferido, pero cualquier idendificacion de tipo gobierno con fotografía sera aceptada.

What do I do if my child is sick at home?¿Qué debo hacer si mi hijo está enfermo a la

casa?

• If possible, visit the doctor and get a note/excuse for missing school.

• Write a note if you do not go to the doctor. (This will be unexcused, but an explanation is still needed.)

• Your child is allowed 10 unexcused absences. After 5 absences or tardies, the attendance clerk and principal will have to meet with you.

• Excessive absences are turned over to the school district and family courts.

• Si es posible, visite el médico y obtenga una nota / eso sera la excusa por su ausiencia de la escuela.

• Si no vas al medico escribe una nota manuscrita. (Esto será sin excusa, pero todavía necesitamos una explicación por su ausiencia)

• The teacher will send the child to the nurse.

• Children with a fever greater than 101° will be sent home. Students must not have a fever for 24 hours before returning to school.

• Students who vomit or have diarrhea will also be sent home. They must not have either vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.

• Make sure you keep phone numbers for emergencies updated with the school personnel.

• El maestro enviará al niño a la enfermera.

• Los niños con una fiebre de 101 o mas serán enviados a casa. Los estudiantes no deben tener una fiebre durante 24 horas antes de regresar a la escuela.

• El estudiante que tiene vómito o diarrea también será enviado a su casa. No deben tener vómito o diarrea durante 24 horas antes de regresar a la escuela.

What do I do if my child needs medicine at school? ¿Qué debo hacer si mi hijo necesita la medicina en

la escuela?• ALL medicine must be brought to

school by a parent. A consent form must be filled out in the nurse’s office to administer the medication. Medicine CANNOT be sent to school on the bus or in a book bag.

• Any prescription medication must have a medication form filled out by the doctor to give it at school.

• Only medications that must be given 4 times a day should be given at school.

• Medications that need to be given 3 times a day should be given before school, after school, and at bedtime.

• Todo tipo de medicinas deben ser llevados a la escuela por un padre y un formulario de consentimiento lleno en la oficina de la enfermera para administrar la medicación. Medicina no puede ser enviada a la escuela en el autobús o en un libro de bolsa.

• Toda prescripción debe tener un medicamento formado por el médico para que predan administrarse en la escuela.

• Sólo los medicamentos que se debe dar 4 veces al día se entregar en la escuela.

• Medicamentos que deben ser administrados 3 veces al día se debe dar antes de la escuela, y después de la escuela, y a la hora de dormir.

What if my child has head lice?¿Qué pasa si mi hijo tiene piojos?

• If your child is sent home with head lice, he/she must be treated according to doctor’s/nurse’s directions.

• A parent must bring the child back to school and have him/her checked by the nurse before returning to class.

• Si su hijo es enviado a casa con los piojos de la cabeza, él / ella debe ser tratada de acuerdo con el médico o enfermera .

• Despres de el tratamiento podiran traer el niño a la escuela la enfermera los revisaran antes de regresar a la clase.

What do I do if I need to change my child’s transportation?

¿Qué debo hacer si tengo que cambiar mi niño de transporte?

• The school policy states that a bus form for each student must be completed, in person, at the office with Ms. Black.

• Changes for car or bus transportation in which Ms. Black has paperwork already completed can be written and sent in with the child. All changes must be written.

• Phone calls are not accepted for transportation changes.

• All changes need to be addressed before 12:00, not close to dismissal times.

• La escuela nesesita una forma completada para cada estudiante la forma debe ser completada en persona en la oficina de la escruela con la Señora Black.

• Los cambios de coche o transporte en autobús en el que la Señora Black ya ha completado el papeleo puede ser escrito y enviado con el niño. Todos los cambios deben ser por escrito.

What happens if my child is late for school?¿Qué ocurre si mi hijo es tarde para la escuela?

• Children must be signed in at the front office.

• The child is given an admittance slip and he/she go to the classroom without the parent.

• Excessive tardies are reported to Horry County School District and could be reported to family courts.

• If a child has a total of 5 tardies and unexcused absences, a letter will be sent home, and a meeting with the principal will occur.

• El niño debe ser firmado en la oficina.

• El niño recibe una hoja de admisión y va a su clase sin el padre.

How do children eat breakfast/lunch and pay for breakfast/ lunch?

• All parents may apply for free or reduced lunch. We have forms in Spanish and English.

• If parents have turned in an application for free and reduced meals, they are still responsible for the cost of the meals received by their children during the time the application is being processed.

• Parents may send in money for their child’s account. We use a card that is swiped each time the child eats and debits that day’s amount from his/her total.

• Parents can also sign up on the Horry county schools web sight and pay on line.

• No more than 3 charges are allowed and then your child will be given a bag lunch.

• Todos los padres pueden solicitar para comida gratis o reducida. Tenemos formas en español y en Inglés.

• Si los padres llenan una aplicacion son todavía responsables por el costo de las comidas recibidas por sus hijos durante el tiempo que la solicitud se está procesando.

• Los padres pueden enviar dinero para la cuenta del niño. La escuela usa una tarjeta. Cada vez que el niño come la tarjeta demuestra los pagos, y debitos. Estan asumados diariamente.

$342 per year /por año; $171 per semester /por semestre; or/o $1.95 per day / por día.

• Reduced-price for all grades/ precios reducidos: $72 per year /por año; $36 per semester /por semestre; or/o 40 cents per day /centavos por día.

• Students may check out books for two weeks at a time.

• If a student fails to turn the book in on time a late fee of ten cents a day is charged to the student.

• There are fees for lost and damaged books. Replacement is at cost.

• If the child moves to another school in our district and does not pay money owed to the school library, the record will follow the child to the new school.

• Los estudiantes pueden tomar un libro prestado por la biblioteca por dos semanas.

• We will send home an instruction sheet for procedures.

• Keep in mind that there is no smoking on school campus.

• Be cautious, and watch for children.

• Follow the directions of staff directing traffic and loading cars.
