Underclassmen Text Book Drop off Info and Locker Clean out HHS Students and Parents: Locker cleanout (if needed) and book/equipment return will take place on June 16 and June 17. Grades 9 -11 will have the opportunity to drop off books and any other school district items at this time. If students have personal belongings in their lockers or in the building, they may enter the building to get them. We used these procedures with the seniors and it worked out very well. During the drop off process, we will use three locations to maximize social distancing: Athletic side entrance (9th grade), Front entrance (10th grade), and Auditorium entrance (11th grade).

• 9th graders will enter in the athletic entrance side • 10th grade will enter in front entrance • 11th grade will enter in auditorium entrance • Students are assigned time slots to drop off items and go to locker if needed (see below) • Only students may enter the building – parents must remain in the car. • All students will fill out item list on this google form. PLEASE fill out this google form in

advance (must use student WCASD email address to login). School items could include: text books, library books, athletic uniforms, technology equipment, etc.

THIS FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT AND IT WILL EXPEDITE THE DROP OFF. • Students will be given 10 minutes to go to their locker to get their belongings if applicable • Staff members will wear gloves and masks at all times. • Students will wear glove and masks upon entering the building (please bring them if you have them). Students and staff members will practice social distancing at all times. Upon exit, students will sign out. Please see the scheduled times for drop off and pick up on June 16 and June 17:

June 16 June 17

Dozens of Best Buddies members and friends (current HHS students & grads) took a break from staying indoors to hop in their cars and do a safe, surprise, drive-by birthday caravan for Xavier Fuselier.

There were approximately 30 cars in total that took part in the caravan.

HHS Students Win 17 National Latin Exam Awards The National Latin Exam (NLE) is a test given annually to Latin students across the United States and around the world. The NLE is not meant to be a competition but rather an opportunity for students to receive reinforce-ment and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Depend-ing upon their score, students may earn certificates, medals, and may even qualify for scholarships.

Congratulations to the 17 Award Winners

We are very proud of all the World Language students sat for the exam.

Congressional Districts PA offices for a

year! In addition to several winners in previous

years, since 2015, Henderson has had 4 winners

- one first place, (2) second places, and one 3rd

place.

About the Competition Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the win-ning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC.

We are all so proud of your accomplishments!

CCIU that senior art student, Anna Stribrny, won the 3rd

place Congressional Award for one of her artworks, an assemblage made of woodblock and digital photography. Out of 408 artworks from all of Chester County high schools, Anna’s was one of three artworks picked.

Leon Bell, here coaching the West Chester Hen-derson boys basketball team in 2011, will take over as head coach of his alma mater, Cheyney Universi-ty. One of the most storied men’s basketball programs in Pennsylvania has turned to a former great to bring it back to life. After a 1-21 season in 2019-20, Cheyney University has named former Cheyney great Leon Bell to head its men’s basketball program, the only official men's sport offered at the school. Bell has been an assistant with the Wolves for the past four seasons and was named head coach this

week when Dawud Morris’ contract was not renewed. Cheyney withdrew from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II before the 2018-19 season. The men's basketball program played as an independent team last year, scheduling mostly Division III schools and community colleges. Bell is a Cheyney graduate and former head coach at West Chester Henderson High School, where he won four consecutive Ches-Mont League titles and made the Warriors one of the top boys programs in District 1 before he retired in 2010 after 13 seasons. Bell played for legendary head coach John Chaney from 1972-75 where he averaged 14 points per game and scored 1,009 points in his three years of play, leading the Wolves to two PSAC East Division titles. Bell was elected to the Chester County Hall of Fame in 2015 and the Ches-Mont League Hall of Fame in 2018. “I want young men to come to Cheyney for a great education and our basketball program will be something they can build on and become pillars of the school,” Bell said. “We want to have a positive impact on the rest of the school and have a program that everyone at Cheyney University can be proud of. I want the kids to know that I care about them and that Cheyney University cares about them.” Last year, the Wolves went 1-21. They won the season opener against Delaware County Community College by just one point, and then lost 24 straight, by an average of 35.5 points. But Bell is very optimistic about not only the Cheyney men’s basketball program but the entire future of the university under the direction of school president, Aaron A. Walton. “President Walton cares deeply about Cheyney University,” Bell said. “He puts in a whole lot of time in mak-ing Cheyney a great place to go to school and he always puts Cheyney’s fortunes first. Things are looking up for Cheyney and President Walton has had a lot to do with that feeling.” The Wolves now play an independent schedule, and Bell said he hopes to have 29 games scheduled for the 2020-21 season.
