Hi fellow yogi’s I’m Lorenzo, you may have seen me getting around the studio. I have been practising hot yoga since 2011, and over time I have noticed subtle changes in my body and most importantly in myself. Physically my posture, mobility and strength have greatly improved, whilst mentally and emotionally I have become calmer and more focused. I find myself able to “live in the moment” for the first time ever, and that is no mean feat. After class some time ago a fellow yogi I had not seen for a while said “Lorenzo, you have transformed yourself” and I thought “thanks I’ll take that” I mean, to feel that you’re on the right track is one thing but to have a friend observe it makes it all more worthwhile. On the Physical side this yoga practice has helped me recover from a debilitating injury I sustained 6 months ago whilst snow skiing. I was always bullet proof in my prime and never got injured; I used to carve up my home mountain of Falls Creek almost every weekend without incident. But last winter on my annual pilgrimage I found out that at 45 I was no longer bullet proof, I took a bad fall and partially tore my medial and posterior cruciate ligaments, with damage to other knee structures. I could barely walk for a month and had intensive physio for 6 weeks. The physio wanted me to do hot yoga 2-3 times per week for rehabilitation. The problem was it was really hard to do a regular practice with most studios turning their backs on the 90 min format. I practiced once a week but it just wasn’t enough. Since Bikram Original Hot Yoga Perth opened in January I have been practicing 3 times a week and the injury has improved 100%. The deep penetrating heat from the FAR Infrared panels gets deep into muscle tissue and really allows you to get those deep, therapeutic benefits. I feel I am now on the road to recovery and I’m grateful for that. I’m actually really excited that this studio has opened, the heat is great and the owners Binny & Nick have been really helpful with my practice. I think that as more and more people come back to this practice we will see that the studio becomes like a second home for many of us. It’s a really good space and sometimes I like to hangout and have a chat with other yogis after class. I really like this practice, I mean let’s face it the 90 min original Bikram series is awesome. After 6 years I still love the Original 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises and it’s great that you get 100% benefits every step of the way. Most of all this Yoga practice makes me feel happy, and that’s what I like about it the most. So sweat, practice and be Happy! Namaste
