PROFESSIONAL TRAINING THE FUN WAY

The FASTLANE program is presented by the Hillsborough Recreation Department and is designed to be the most fun you will ever have improving at basketball. FASTLANE basketball believes the difference between successful and unsuccessful basketball players is a matter of attitude. We take pride in developing characteristics like leadership and unselfishness through the game of basketball. Aragon High School Varsity Assistant Basketball Coach Ryan Lane will conduct all sessions. Ryan was an All State High School Player and four year college player who led the nation in 3pt shooting percentage his senior season at Holy Names University. He has been coaching grades K-5 for fifteen years, the last ten with Legarza Basketball Camp. He is the proud father of two and understands the importance of your child’s safety. We believe you have to learn to love basketball before you can love to learn basketball, so come have some fun and get your game in the

Young Authors 201

Thursdays: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Grades 1-5*

Course Content: Students will choose their genre, e.g. poetry, short story, illustrated book, novel, comic book, play, research report, etc. Specific Skills Addressed: Students will learn to construct writing pieces that exemplify quality organization, outstanding sentence structure, excellent vocabulary, and superb grammatical and spelling skills. Culminating Activity: Students will create a hard bound illustrated book and have the opportunity to submit their piece to be published! Bound, hard covered books and all other writing and illustrating supplies will be provided! * Students will work in appropriate grade level groups.

Homework, Writing, Reading Comprehension Help Thursdays: 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Grades 2-5 Purpose: To help students who need extra help or enrichment in Language Arts, Science, or Social Science. Students may bring current homework. If children have no homework, grade level review or enrichment activities will be provided.

Young Authors 202 Thursdays: 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Let your child’s first soccer experience be a great one! Soccer and Smiles’ fun filled classes are professionally designed for 3‐8 year olds. Children use their imagination while participating in age appropriate games and exercises. 

We bring child friendly equipment including beach balls, mini soccer balls, hulas hoops, rings, flags, colored cones, and more. 

We believe that confidence, positive self esteem and exercise are the foundation for a healthy and happy life. Kids in our program thrive due to our non‐competitive curriculum and positive coaching in a fun and pressure free‐environment.

HILLSBOROUGH RECREATION TENNIS PROGRAMScott Perlstein Enterprises will offer a number of tennis classes this Winter. There will be one instructor for 6 students.

ABILITY LEVELS:Pre Tennis -- 3-5 years old. A pre- racquet motor co-ordination and spatial judgment class.Beginners I-- Basic fundamentals taught.Beginners II -- Focus on refinement of basic skills, strategy, and in addition more advanced shots.Tournament Training-- For those who are trying to play NCTA tournaments and who play on the Crocker Tennis Team.

FRENCH HORN LESSONS

GRADE: 5TH grade to adult, beginning through advanced LOCATION: Crocker Middle School INSTRUCTOR: Erika Wilsen FEE: Hourly, contact instructor COURSE DESCRIPTION: Weekly lessons; 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length. Erika is an active performer in the Bay Area. She has played with many local ensembles including California, Fremont and Santa Cruz Symphonies, West Bay Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, Broadway by the Bay and Peninsula Ballet Theatre. In the last year, she has performed with both Josh Groban and Barry Manilow. She is a founding member of the woodwind quintet Avenue Winds (avenuewinds.com). Prior teaching credits include horn instructor at the University of San Francisco, the Interlochen Centre for the Arts and the University of Michigan Summer Arts Institute. PIANO LESSONS Children and Adults - Beginners to Advance LOCATION: Instructor’s Home INSTRUCTOR: Irina Carrenca FEE: $200 Monthly LESSON TIME: 45 Minutes COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is based on individual instruction. Music theory integrated with Ear Training will be taught, along with Piano Technique and Interpretation. Prompt acquisition of recommended material is required. Regularity, as well as quality of practice time is expected. Irina Carrenca has a BA in Music Performance from the Buenos Aires Conservatory of Music; has received awards in piano competitions in Buenos Aires, New York, Fresno, Palm Springs and San Francisco, CA. She has performed solo recitals and Chamber Music in Buenos Aires and the Bay Area. She has been teaching for 20 years, half of that time has been with the Hillsborough/Burlingame community. Mrs. Carrenca has been a Faculty Member at the San Francisco Community Music Center, as a Piano Instructor and Ensemble Coach since 1987. She is a member of the Music Teachers Association of California and a Participant of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Preparation for CERTIFICATE OF MERIT is offered as well as performances opportunities. Classes will be held once a week. VIOLIN LESSONS

GRADE: Youth and Adult LOCATION: Crocker School, portable #3 INSTRUCTOR: Eline van den Ende FEE: $40 for half hour lessons; $55 for 45 minute lessons TEACHING METHOD: Ms. van den Ende has developed a unique teaching style based on her own European training and her many years of experience teaching and performing. Beginning students will learn the rudiments of violin technique, master simple pieces as well as note reading and basic music theory. Intermediate students will be exposed to more challenging repertoire and more advanced facets of violin technique. Ms. van den Ende will also prepare any intermediate students for youth orchestra auditions if necessary. Advanced students will work through most of the violin etude books and learn the standard violin concerti and orchestral excerpts. BIOGRAPHY: Eline van den Ende was born in Zierikzee, Holland and received her musical training at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. Eline is a member of the first violin section of the Symphony Silicon Valley (formerly the San Jose Symphony) and Ballet San Jose and is concertmaster of the American Musical Theater of San Jose Orchestra. Funky Fashion A fun class for middle school age students! In this eight week class, taught by Michelle Roderick, students will learn to make silver pmc pendant & beaded necklaces, design felted fabric into hair clips & pins, and make a small fabric handbag with a leather handle. Michelle has been making and designing jewelry and purses for several years and her work is for sale in several Bay Area boutiques. She is excited to bring these projects to middle school age students who have an eye for funky, but want to make it themselves! Cost $250 for the class Materials Fee: $50 covers all necessary materials. Day/Time: Fridays 3:15-4:45 Location: P2 @ Crocker Dates: January 29th -March 26th
