Programs are based on a U.S. academic model. All communication and correspondence are in
English. Program elements, such as orientation, social activities, and staff support are also
conducted in English. Courses are taught either in English or in the language of the host country.
Although TOEFL/IELTS scores are not required, students on a non-US program must have advanced
English-language proficiency* to take part successfully in the overall program and complete college-
level course work in English.
*Advanced proficiency is considered a level of English equivalent to a 550 TOEFL (PBT); 80 TOEFL
(IBT), or 6.0 IELTS.

University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, university-based organization providing authentic, affordable study abroad programs at more than 50 locations in 26 countries. Since 1982, we have provided students with life-changing opportunities to live and learn in countries all around the globe. We strive to provide experiences in which students grow into engaged citizens of the world, not only in the classroom, but also through field trips, integrated living, language partners, sports, internships, and volunteer and service-learning opportunities. It is, and always has been, important for us to contribute to the internationalization of universities in the US and abroad. Students from any university are welcome to apply and participate on USAC programs. For over 38 years, students from more than 700 universities around the world have studied with USAC.
University features
Language tracks, field trips, optional tours, cuisine/surfing classes, visa assistance, transcript assistance, personalized advisement, and much more. Students attend classes at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), recently ranked the 12th best university in Latin America, and is known across the region for its leadership in research. Students enjoy free wifi access, a very low-cost lunch service, and are able to participate in many different dance, music, and sporting groups. UFSC also has its own hospital as well as elementary, middle, and high schools and several charitable groups on campus, which helps create a very strong sense of community. There is also a large center where students congregate and many events and activities are held, including concerts, exhibitions, and film festivals. The campus is located in a lively part of the city, surrounded by markets, stores, and cafes.
Short description of the city
As the capital of the state of Santa Catarina in southeastern Brazil, Florianópolis is a bustling but relaxed city rich with history and culture. Called “Floripa” by locals, its beautiful weather, internationally known surfing waves, and island culture make it a wonderful destination for lovers of the outdoors. With an average temperature of 70°F, the sub-tropical climate lends itself perfectly to spending hours outside.

Students will submit a USAC application, transcripts, personal statement, financial agreement, program agreement, conduct form, and course registration form.
Language requirements
All students must enroll in an intensive language and culture course during the first five weeks of the spring semester.
Other requirements
Students should be in good academic standing with HU, have at least a 2.0 out of 3.0 at HU, have completed at least one year of university level study, and take a full course load of at least 12 credits on the USAC program.

For USAC arranged housing, assistance is provided by the program advisor during pre-departure preparations and by the RD once students arrive on-site.

Students study at Universidad Andrés Bello, which has approximately 30,000 students and is widely regarded as one of Chile’s most important private universities. USAC classes and the office are located at the downtown Santiago campus, conveniently situated along the subway line. It is in a traditional, peaceful, elegant neighborhood, which is quickly becoming the student hub of universities, departments, and several institutes. Its French architecture characterizes historic, traditional Santiago. The mixture of the university activity with the daily life of Santiago's citizens opens an attractive view and experience of this Latin American capital city with historical and modern faces.
Short description of the city
Santiago is a city of contrasts: historic areas stand side-by-side with modern urbanism; plazas and parks are oases in the midst of the metropolis. Chile is famous for its tasty cuisine, which incorporates seafood from its long-stretching coastline, fresh meats, and abundant fruits and vegetables. Outside of Santiago, Chile offers many environmental extremes. The Atacama Desert lies to the north, while the central area supports most of the country's population. Southern Chile is rich in rain forests, volcanoes, lakes and of course, Patagonia.

Short description of the city
Lyon is considered one of the most beautiful cities in France and is host to many cultural events i.e. "Nuits Sonores", "Fête des Lumières", Cinema Festivals, Dance and Contemporary Art Biennials. The city is replete with small restaurants called "bouchons" and bistros that proudly follow centuries-old traditional recipes. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, Lyon is itself a museum, with stories to tell from Roman times to the French Revolution, from the Renaissance to World War II. Explore Lyon's convenient location near borders of Switzerland and Italy, and just a train ride away from Paris, Provence, the French Alps, and many other locations.

Short description of the city
Pau is one of the most breathtaking cities and regions in France. It is small enough to offer everything within walking or biking distance, but large enough to have excellent movie theaters, markets, festivals, concerts, sports facilities, outdoor cafes, beautiful parks, museums, and quaint shops. In addition, students enjoy the historical quarters, which date back to Medieval and Renaissance times and were built around the castle of Henri IV. From Pau, there is easy access to the Pyrenees Mountains, the Atlantic Coast, and Spain. Pau lies roughly one hour from the beaches of Biarritz, 45 minutes from ski resorts, and 30 minutes from Lourdes.

Short description of the city
Lüneburg is a small town (population: 75,000) in northern Germany. In the medieval old town, red brick Gothic–style buildings frame Am Sande square. Housed in the former Lüneburg Saltworks, the German Salt Museum details the history and importance of salt mining, the source of the city’s medieval wealth. Many buildings in the historic quarter lean due to centuries of mining. Lüneburg Kalkberg, a limestone hill, sits in a nearby nature reserve. The city is very walkable and has several clear and safe bike paths for students to get around town. Lüneburg has many festivals all year round that celebrate religion, art, history, music, etcetera. In the winter, several Weihnachtsmarkts (Christmas markets) are erected in various places in town.

The mandatory orientation is a two-day schedule that includes a city tour, a campus tour, cultural information, health and safety information, and basics such as how to navigate the city.

Meal plan
With the Homestay option, students will be provided breakfast everyday and one additional meal per week. If students select the apartment option they will need to prepare their own meals.

Short description of the city
Bengaluru is the third largest city in India. It was founded in the sixteenth century by a Hoysala king and was ruled by the maharajas of Mysore throughout much of its history. Today it is the capital of the state of Karnataka and one of India’s most modern cities with malls, bargain shopping centers, espresso shops, nightclubs, and multi-cuisine restaurants. Bengaluru’s Electronic City Industrial Park has also become the world’s second largest producer of software. Bengaluru is at the heart of the information technology and business outsourcing boom in South Asia and many multinational high-tech companies have offices here: Oracle is located right next door to Christ University. Its abundance of parks and gardens, many built by the British Raj, has earned it the nickname "Garden City." It also is endowed with a pleasant sub-tropical climate (55°-80°F). March through May is the warmest season and most of the rain falls between June and September, leaving the air clean and fresh.

Short description of the city
A small university town in central Italy rich in historical, artistic, and monumental legacies. Viterbo is a medieval city with an energetic university community and active art scene. It is about two and a half hours from Rome and three hours from Florence (by train), with easy connections to the coast and mountain regions. Viterbo residents have retained the charm and leisurely quality of life of days gone by. They still retain the tradition of closing from 1 pm to 4 pm in order to enjoy a relaxing lunch at home with the family.

Short description of the city
Gwangju is rich in cuisine, natural scenery, and culture and art, with exhibitions, festivals, and colorful, vibrant performances throughout the year. The city is home to a former World Cup Stadium venue, professional baseball and soccer, and plays host to the annual World Kimchi Culture Festival, Art and Design Biennales in alternating years, and Universiade, a university-level sports festival that is the largest multi-sport event after the Olympics. Sports, music, and cultural festivals are not to be missed as well as fashionable Chungjangno, the “street of youth.” You should not miss Mudeungsan Mountain National Park, a 30-minute bus ride from central Gwangju. The park is a vividly green mountain range with excellent trails, three rock peaks over 3,894 feet, diverse ecosystems, and several endangered species. At the base of the mountain are several famous temples including Yaksaam, Jeungsimsa, and Wonhyosa as well as museums and other recreational opportunities. This historic and culturally vibrant city is only an hour an a half from Seoul.

Short description of the city
Krakow is extremely rich in Polish history and is considered the center of cultural, academic, and artistic life in Poland. It was once the capital city, and unlike many other Polish cities, it was not destroyed during the war. Students can see hundreds of years of Polish architecture and heritage in the old town. The old town is surrounded by a green belt called Planty Park, which leads to the Wawel Castle complex, including the cave of Smok Wawelski, Krakow’s legendary dragon. Another site, which USAC students visit, is the Wieliczka Salt Mines, a large underground mine with entire rooms built from salt. Krakow also has a very somber history; it is the home of Oskar Schindler’s factory, the historic Jewish district of Kazimierz, and it is the closest city to Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. Kazimierz fell into neglect after WWII, but since Schindler’s List was filmed there, it has become lively and is home to many popular restaurants and clubs. The city holds many festivals related to religion (Christian traditions, Smigus Dyngus at Easter, as well as older Pagan traditions like Marzanna), local history (like Lajkonik Festival) music (including the largest sea shanty festival in spring), a college student party called Juwenalia (concerts, costumes and events to celebrate the end of exams). Nearby to the south are the Tatra Mountains, which are great for hiking in summer and skiing in winter.

Short description of the city
Bilbao is focused on innovation in renewable energy and is a respected business hub not only in Spain, but internationally as well. Bilbao is an ideal location for students majoring or interested in business. Along with internship opportunities, there are also several courses offered by USAC that students can take involving business (most taught in English). While the old structures of its Basque heritage make up the city streets, students will find lots of modern art. From the Guggenheim Museum to the Metro, Bilbao’s local government has spent lots of money in recent years to transform the city into a modern art metropolis. University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, university-based organization providing authentic, affordable study abroad programs at more than 50 locations in 26 countries. Since 1982, we have provided students with life-changing opportunities to live and learn in countries all around the globe. We strive to provide experiences in which students grow into engaged citizens of the world, not only in the classroom, but also through field trips, integrated living, language partners, sports, internships, and volunteer and service-learning opportunities. It is, and always has been, important for us to contribute to the internationalization of universities in the US and abroad. Students from any university are welcome to apply and participate on USAC programs. For over 38 years, students from more than 700 universities around the world have studied with USAC.

Short description of the city
Madrid is one of the most vibrant capital cities in Europe. This capital city is a melting pot for all regions of Spain and yet, it has maintained its own well-defined character. Madrid has a modern infrastructure but has successfully preserved the look and feel of many of its historic neighborhoods and streets, resulting in a cohesive blend of old and new. Madrid offers a wide variety of entertainment, cultural, and sporting interests that provide students with ample opportunities to practice their Spanish language skills and immerse in the culture.

Application material
Students will submit a USAC application, transcripts, personal statement, financial agreement, program agreement, conduct form, and course registration form.
Language requirements
Semester and yearlong students only – enrollment in the entire language track is mandatory.
Other requirements
Students should be in good academic standing with HU, have at least a 2.0 out of 3.0 at HU, have completed at least one year of university level study, and take a full course load of at least 12 credits on the USAC program.

Housing assistance
Detailed information regarding USAC pre-arranged housing options (shared apartment and homestay) are outlined in the Housing Guide, which is available on Gateway account once students are fully approved into the program. Students can make their selection by filling out the Housing Form and will receive their housing assignments approximately one week prior to departure. Program Advisor is available for any questions, concerns, or additional requests students may have about their housing.

Short description of the city
The University of Idaho is surrounded by the rolling Palouse hills, an area so beautiful it was featured in National Geographic magazine. Just minutes away from the forests, rivers and lakes of North Idaho, Moscow is home to more than 24,000 residents and a wide range of student-minded businesses, such as you would only find in a university town. In fact, Men’s Journal named this “hip little city” one of the nation’s five best places to live among college towns. Art galleries, movie theaters, coffee shops and restaurants line the streets. In addition to popular drive-throughs, Moscow offers a huge co-op with organic and natural foods, Northwest-style pubs, as well as locally owned Italian, French, Mexican and Chinese eateries.

To study at the ALCP, students will need to fill out the ALCP application at https://futurevandals.uidaho.edu/apply/. They will need to create an account and select the ALCP application option in Enrollment Information section of the application. The following additional electronic materials should be sent to the UI exchange coordinator at the time of nomination: 1. Name, Gender, Date of birth and email address of nominated
exchange student 2. University transcript (PDF), 3. Present evidence of financial support for all expenses on the
Certificate of Financial Responsibilty (provided by the UI exchange coordinator at a later date),

General information about the university
ALCI was established as an IEP affiliated with, and located at CSU, Chico (popularly known as Chico State), in 1979. It offers beginning to high intermediate English language instruction through 7 levels and has conditional admission agreements with Chico State and the local community college, Butte College. The program is intended to prepare students interested in a degree from an American university, as well as for students interested in a rich study abroad experience and improving their English.
University features
Chico offers a safe environment in a small college town setting. ALCI students have access to the Chico State campus resources including the Wellcat Health Center and (for a fee) the Wildcat Recreation Center.
Short description of the city
Chico is a city in northern California. It is a college town set in an agricultural area. It is best known for Chico State (the second oldest CSU) farmers markets, and Bidwell Park, one of the largest city parks in the U.S.

Intensive English Program Open University: Students can take one semester long class at Chico State while attending two 7-week ALCI sessions learning English.
Areas of study NOT available to exchange students
ALCI does not offer degree programs but does have conditional admission agreements to help students meet the English proficiency requirements of Chico State and Butte College.

ALCI offers 5 seven-week sessions each year. Seven levels from low beginner to high intermediate/low advanced English proficiency are offered. Each session includes Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Grammar and Elective courses at different levels. ALCI also offers short and/or special programs tailored to a group or university’s students.

ALCI staff will help students contact housing and make arrangements, but students are responsible for finding their own housing. ALCI students can choose from homestay, University Housing or private housing options in Chico.

6 months - $12,108 ($6,888 tuition/fees + $5,220 living expenses) If studying through USAC, tuition is taken care of on the students’ behalf.

Meal plans are available to students in University Housing or for some private student apartments. Meals are included with Homestay In private housing students would be responsible for their own meals/groceries.
Insurance packages exchange students are required to purchase
ALCI requires students to show proof of health insurance but does not have a required provider. Students must be covered for the entire length of their program of study. Minimum coverage amounts: US$100,000 per accident or illness; US$50,000 medical evacuation; US$25,000 repatriation and return of mortal remains

Students will study at the Universidad ORT which is an international non-denominational university. It is the first and largest private university in Uruguay. It has an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and the main lines of the university are technology, business and design. Every year, more than 11,000 students study at ORT, including international students from Spain, Mexico, Germany, the U.S. and China. The University has received some international accreditation by AMBA and the ARCU-SUR Mercosur system. The campus itself is newer, modern, green, and quite nice. All students have access to a computer lab, classrooms for studying, and a library. There is free Wi-Fi access for the students, a cafeteria with low prices and several options for snacks, lunch or dinner. The university's sports area offers students the possibility of integrating in the school’s team and compete in the University League in several sports.
Short description of the city
Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay, the southern most capital in South America and the biggest city in the country. The city combines a lively and relaxed lifestyle and is quickly becoming a travel destination due to its thriving cultural scene including rich architecture, sandy beaches, plazas, shops, museums, and restaurants. It has a humid subtropical climate with cool winters and warm summers. Montevideo is a green city, with a vast number of green spaces, parks and gardens that allow you to connect to nature while enjoying the life of a city.The city contains an extensive bus service that covers the majority of the city and has been going through an economic boom, so there is plenty of entertainment, culture, and food to be found. Its location makes it convenient to travel to nearby regions such as Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Brazil, and provides a variety of opportunities for day trips around the country.
