• Features: lack blood vessels, tightly packed, free edge

• Classified by shape and number of layers (for the most part!)

II. Connective TissuesCells are widely spaced with extracellular material (matrix) between the cells

• Muscle tissue is conductive

• Muscle tissue is contractile (unique to this tissue)

• Nervous tissue is conductive

• Composed of:

1. neurons which generate and conduct impulses

2. neuroglial cells provide anatomical and functional support to the neurons
