MISSION STATEMENT Holy Family Catholic Church is a spiritually and socially active parish. Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we cele-brate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as we Continue Our Journey of Faith.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ 2019 My brothers and sisters in the Lord! The multiplication of the five loaves and two fish is a wonderful miracle pointing to the deep desire of God to feed God’s people and the abundance with which God pours gifts on His beloved. This sign points towards the Last Supper when Jesus speaks of offering His body and blood on the cross and

gives the gift of His body and blood to the disciples assembled with Him. St. Paul shared these words to the Christians in Corinth and they are shared with us every time we celebrate the Mass. Jesus took bread and said, “This is my body, which is for you.” Then He said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.” Every time we celebrate the Mass, we enter again into the offering of Christ on the cross and then proclaim His life-giving death and resurrection. The words, do this in memory of me echo across the centuries as priests have offered the mass with people in majestic cathedrals, humble parish churches, prison cells, and catacombs, often in secret for fear of arrest and death. The mystery of events have happened many times in the Old Testament with the sacrifice of Melchizedek, the feeding of the people in the desert with manna, the holy food given to the prophet Elijah as he walked to Mount Horeb. We celebrate this mystery in sacred chants: “Panis Angelicus,” as well as new renditions such as “O Bread of Heaven,” “Bread for the Broken World,” or “I am the Bread of Life.” The celebration of this feast, The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, is both an invitation to adore the Lord in prayer as well as a summons to love and action. Before the Blessed Sacrament, we must meet like friends with Jesus, listen to Him and tell Him our needs. Jesus is always waiting for our prayers, 24/7, which is an act of trust in Him. It is also a summons to action. At the end of Mass, we are sent out as the priest proclaims: “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.” These words should remind us that as a symbol of love and humility, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, so must we, in humility and love, cleanse the feet of those who are most in need. We need to remember that each one of us is a witness and we are called to bring the love of our God to whomever we meet. Peace, Fr. Joe

St. Anthony 2019 A special thank you to Emma and Michele Tarantino for their devotion to Saint Anthony of Padua. Once again, our Tredicina and concluding Mass celebration was well attended by many devotees. We thank all who participated to make this devotion in honor of great St. Anthony such a wonderful success. It is important that these devotions continue in order that the legacy and remembrance continue for future generations. Many thanks to all for their love and hard work for providing the many homemade desserts. The offerings on the “Saint Anthony Heart” amounted to $1,200. Additional donations after the feast day

amounted to $132 and the collection at the Italian Mass on the holy day honoring St. Anthony was $485. The total gift amounted to $1,838 which will help us in our building and maintenance fund. Through the intercession of St. Anthony, may you and your loved ones be blessed for your continued love and devotion.

Knights of Columbus Baby Bottle Boomerang 2019

If you didn’t have a chance to participate in this year’s fundraiser please return the Baby Bottle.

A basket will be in the vestibule of the church. Doing this will reduce our expenses for the next fundraiser.

Thank you!

True Freedom is found in our Lord Jesus Christ who liberated us from sin through His death and resurrection. As we rejoice with our fellow Americans for the independence we enjoy in the United States, let us never forget those who are restricted by the chains of poverty. Why not celebrate your freedom by an act of kindness? One way to do this is by donating your unwanted clothing and shoes to the Catholic Charities donation bin located in the Msgr. Di Luca Plaza parking lot. Thank you.
