We may quote scripture and recite platitudes
on love and God, but unless we are willing to
get involved in the lives of others, we are only
blowing smoke. The Samaritan treated and
bandaged the wounds. He set the injured man
on his donkey. He took him to an inn and
cared for him throughout the night. The
Samaritan could have said to himself, “I give
regularly to my church. I donate to the
Salvation Army every Christmas. I have done
my part.” But he didn’t. As the scriptures say,
he had compassion, and he acted on it. Jesus
wants us to do the same thing.

Ten Commandments for Welcoming a New Priest
I. Thou shalt not compare the previous priest and the
new priest, for the Lord thy God has made each person
unique and wishes you to appreciate each original
creation.
II. Thou shalt not expect everything to stay the same
when the new priest arrives. Nor shalt thou resist
change, nor assume that change is bad, but thou shalt
trust that the Lord thy God isn’t finished with your
church yet and is bringing change for good.
III. Thou shalt not keep old grudges, but thou shalt
forgive and move on in the grace of the Lord thy God.
IV. Thou shalt not engage in gossip. Thou shalt adjust
thy attitudes and lighten up, for everything shall be
alright.
V. Thou shalt not be nostalgic or say that the old days
were better, for in so doing thou shalt make thy
judgement come true.
VI. Thou shalt not create “us-them” divisions, but thou
shalt unify with thy brothers and sisters even when they
annoy or confuse you.
VII. Thou shalt not come to the new priest with your
demands, pressure, complaints, bad reports,
manipulations, threats, agendas, unsolicited advice, or
snide comments. But thou shalt say, “Welcome! How
can we help you? We’re praying for you. Welcome to
our community.
VIII. Thou shalt increase thy giving.
IX. Thou shalt not come to thine old and former priest
with anything but praise for the new priest, but thou may
bring thy concerns to God in humble prayer.
X. Most important, thou shalt trust God, and stay
connected to God, and draw strength from God, staying
deeply rooted in the message of God’s grace. For God is
good, and God will never leave you nor forsake you.

On pins & needles? Jesus will cushion you!
Heavenly Messengers
Shopping mall bookstores are filled with
books about angels. There are even popular
television programs about angels and the
presence of angels among us. People today
seem to be fascinated by angels, yet this is
usually nothing new. Even from the earliest
times, people and the Church have been
commemorated the angels of God. In fact, even
as early as the fourth century, the Church has
been commemorating the feast of Saint Michael
the Archangel on November 8th, Yet, angels,
for all the mystery surrounding them, are
primarily messengers of God. They convey to
human creatures divine messages from God
Himself.
Increasingly, many of the messages that angels express are similar. Quite often they instruct someone to “hurry and go”! The angel in the jail with Saint Peter instructs him
to “rise quickly’’! An angel in a dream to Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, warns him of Herod’s slaughtering of children and tells him to take Jesus and Mary “go quickly”! An angel also appears to Philip and says, “arise and go”! What might God’s angels be saying to us? Could it be a whispered word of warning heard in the depths of our heart telling us to “hurry and flee” from a temptation or an occasion of sin? Could it be a word of encouragement coming to us as a silent inspiration instructing us to “rise quickly” to the performance of a good deed or act of charity? With wisdom, let us be attentive in listening to the words of encouragement and warning from God’s heavenly messengers!
Icon of Saint Michael the Archangel November 8th
Michael means "Who is like God?" Other spellings of Michael's name include Mikhael, Mikael, Mikail, and Mikhail. Archangel Michael (also known s Saint Michael) is God's top angel, leading all of the angels in heaven. Michael's main characteristics are exceptional strength and courage. Michael fights for good to prevail over evil and empowers believers to set their faith in God on fire with passion. He protects
and defends people who love God. People sometimes ask for Michael's help to gain the courage they need to overcome their fears,
obtain strength to resist temptations to sin and instead do what's right, and stay safe in dangerous situations.
Continued Report on Harvest Dance 2016
A follow up on my initial report last week. We were able to leave some supplies to be used by the church. We did hand out 10 door prizes (all donated) with the largest being a one night stay at the Courtyard Marriott at the airport. After all calculations were completed, we were left with $873.00 towards the church general fund. I felt that the financial result from the dance was indeed very good when one considers that there were other functions that weekend in the city. A big thank to all the volunteers who helped to make this a financial success.
Perogy Supper Report
Many thanks to all our volunteers for their time and effort in making our Perogy Project a great success. Our proceeds for the October Perogy Supper which includes bulk sales were $4430.00 (gross). We have noticed a big increase in the cost of supplies and groceries and we have come to the conclusion that it may be necessary to raise the price of our bulk sales. That will be determined in the New Year. We have increased the fee for the Supper and that will stay the same (small plate at $7.00 and large plate at $12.00) Our November orders are sold out. There will not be a Perogy Supper in December but we will be filling orders for Christmas. Perogy making week is December 4th to 7th. Pick up of orders is Wednesday, December 7th at 1:00 p.m. Once again “thank you” to all our dedicated parishioners for their help. If there are others who have not contributed their time and wish to join our work force please do not wait for an invitation – just show up. There is enough work for all and your time is greatly appreciated.
~Vicky Adams
Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having
more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you
will never, ever have enough.
