Call to Worship Leader: Rejoice, friends of God! For your King comes to you triumphant in love,

humbled as a servant. People: Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Leader: Triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a colt. People: We join the ancient throng this day,

singing praise and joy to our Lord.

*Hymn: “All Glory, Laud and Honor” PH #88

*Prayer of Praise (unison)

We praise you, O God, for your redemption of the world through Jesus Christ. Today he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph and was proclaimed Messiah and King by those who spread garments and branches along his way. Let these branches be signs of his victory. Grant that we who carry them may follow him in the way of the cross that, dying and rising with him, we may enter into your kingdom; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

*Response - “Come and See” STF #2127 “Come and see, come and see, I am the way and the truth,” said He. Follow me, follow me, Come as a child, O come and see.”

Kyrie, Kyrie, Kyrie eleison Christe, Christe, Christe eleison

*Sharing of the Peace Leader: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Children’s Sermon (Children in Pre-K-5th grade will leave for Sunday School.)

Anthem

Old Testament Lesson: Isaiah 50:4-9a (pg.667)

Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29 (Responsive) Leader: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures for ever! People: Let Israel say, ‘His steadfast love endures for ever.’ Leader: Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord. People: This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it. Leader: I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. People: The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. Leader: This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. People: This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Leader: Save us, we beseech you, O Lord! O Lord, we beseech you, give us success! People: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.

We bless you from the house of the Lord. Leader: The Lord is God, and he has given us light. Bind the

festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.

People: You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you.

Leader: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever.

Gospel Lesson: Luke 19:28-40 (pg. 957)

Sermon: ”And The Winner Is?” The Rev. Dr. Katherine G. Killebrew

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

*Affirmation of Faith: Brief Statement of Faith In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God.

Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.

Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world.

With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Offering What will we offer to carry the message of Jesus Christ

into the Jerusalems of our day? Will we offer transportation, the witness of our voices, the clothes off our backs? Will we

invest our tithes, and follow them with personal involvement? Our offerings are a measure of our commitment.

Musical Meditation

*Doxology

*Prayer of Dedication

Prayers of the People Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

Leader: Let us pray. Prayers of Praise, Thanksgiving, and Intercession. All: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

GO IN GOD’S NAME

*Hymn: “Ride On! Ride On in Majesty!” PH #91

*The Charge and Benediction Leader: Go into the world in peace. People: Jesus Christ is victorious over all the powers of this earth! Leader: You are free to live and die with courage. People: We trust in God our strength. Leader: Go forth in God’s name, redeemed and renewed! People: Amen.

*Benediction

What Now? Marriage Equality for Presbyterians and Everyone Else

A Covenant Network Regional Conference

Saturday, April 6, 2013, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. First Presbyterian Church, NYC

Attorney David Boies, along with co-lead counsel, brought a landmark civil rights case to trial in 2010 challenging California’s Proposition 8. Judges at both the federal district and appellate levels have concluded that Proposition 8 violates the U.S. Constitution. The case will be argued before the United States Supreme Court on March 26th with a ruling expected in June.

Attorney Doug Nave has argued numerous cases in Presbyterian Church courts for LGBT equality. His speech, “Blest be the Ties?,” will focus on marriage equality in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
