Holy Rosary Parking Lot & Attending Mass Please Enter Parking Lot on East 120th Street Exit onto Coltman Road Arrive Early for Seating/Social Distancing!
Note that we are using a new traffic pattern in which we enter the parking lot on East 120th Street and exit using either the new exit onto Coltman Road or onto East 120th. The driveway from Mayfield Road is blocked for the safety of pedestrians entering and exiting from church.
We also encourage you to arrive early for Mass to allow extra time for being seated ensuring adequate social dis-tancing between households and individuals. We are grateful for your courtesy in wearing masks, using hand sanitizer and moving to the center of the pew to make room for others. Your courteous actions make others feel comfortable attending Mass in-person. Thank you!
Reflection on Today’s Gospel —August 30, 2020 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matt 16:24-25) The Women’s Ministry has been meeting virtually to discuss a film series available on FORMED called The Bible and the V ir-gin Mary: Journey Through Scripture. This week’s lesson cov-ered the topic “Full of Grace” in that the Virgin Mary, as the Immaculate Conception, was never subjected to the stain of original sin. From the moment of Mary’s conception in the womb of her mother, Saint Anna, until her assumption into heaven, Mary was without sin. This fact is a teaching of the church and is reinforced by Sacred Scripture. When the Angel Gabriel came to Mary at the Annunciation, he greeted her with the familiar words of the Hail Mary prayer: Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you. (Luke 1:28) During this film series, we have been reminded of the Church’s four dogmas about the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Mother of God (the Theotokos), her perpetual virginity, her ever-holiness as the Immaculate Conception, and ultimately that she was as-sumed by God into heaven, body and soul. This week’s film also included a brief description of the Marian apparition in Fatima, Portugal in 1917, just over a hundred years ago — during a time of great secularization and political unrest. Of the three young children to whom both an angel and the Blessed Mother appeared, only Lucia would live to adulthood, dying at age 97, while the other two were told by the Lady that they would soon die and go to heaven. Siblings Francisco and Jacinta indeed both died from complications of the Spanish flu, the influenza pandemic of a century ago which has been fre-quently mentioned as we face the current pandemic. The short lives of these two children were significant in their willingness to take up their crosses of penance, sacrifice, and prayer in repa-ration for the sins of others, praying for the souls in purgatory and for the conversion of our world. They endured suffering in their illnesses and their earthly lives ended at the early ages of nine years for Saint Jacinta Marto and at ten years of age for her brother Saint Francisco Marto. Both bravely faced death and eagerly anticipated entering Heaven as promised by Our Lady of Fatima. Upon reflection, a personal message may be revealed for us to-day about the need to be selfless and further trust in God, as the young children did without hesitation. We may use this time of unprecedented social distancing to reignite our spiritual life — to pray fervently and sacrifice just as the children were instruct-ed a century ago. In fact, the personal conversion of the children as a result of the Marian apparition caused many to come to be-lieve! Today’s Gospel specifically instructs us to take up our cross and follow Jesus. We may not choose our daily burdens and crosses, but we choose our personal response to the imperfections and challenges in our lives—whether or not to embrace them bravely and follow Christ, to abandon the fear and anxiety that the world brings, like the three young children did over a century ago. May Our Lady of Fatima continue to guide us and intercede for us as we take up our crosses anew each day.

Virtual “Coffee & Donuts” —Resuming After Labor Day!
Okay, we’re not talking about the actual coffee or the actual donuts — but we offer an opportunity to share in the weekly conversations we used to have in the church
hall after the Sunday morning Masses.
A group of parishioners have been meeting online weekly via Zoom after the 11 am Mass. Those who are
staying home due to being at risk for covid-19, as well as those attending Mass in person, gather in the early after-
noon on Sundays for a virtual conversation to catch up on news, family updates, and to maintain friendships built
over years of being together at Holy Rosary.
If you are interested in getting to know others from the parish or are missing people you used to see regularly in the church hall for coffee and donuts on Sundays, call
Tammy at the Parish Office and we will be happy to send you the link to connect to the online conversation which
will resume on Sundays after Labor Day.
Parish Updates Through Flocknote-Text to Join! Parish updates are being sent out via Flocknote.
If you are not receiving emails from Holy Rosary Parish and wish to be included, please send an email
to [email protected] to be added to the parish email list. Note: You may need to check your “junk”
mail or spam folder initially for the messages. If you prefer, Flocknote can also text messages to
your cell phone! To join Flocknote, simply text “HRCLEVELAND” to 84576 and sign up!

Holy Rosary Church, Cleveland, Ohio — Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time August 30, 2020
Important Guidelines Relating to Mass Attendance:
The Sunday Mass schedule remains the same: 5pm vigil on Saturday, 8:30 am, 11 am and 8pm on Sundays. A livestream of the 5pm vigil Mass on Saturdays is available on the website and may be watched at any time during the day on Sunday. Weekday Masses continue with a modified schedule. (Mon., Tues., Weds. & Fri. at 12:15pm) All Masses must comply with social distancing guidelines.
The Diocese of Cleveland’s new worship guidelines: dioceseofcleveland.org/forward-with-christ/overview
Before Attending Mass at Holy Rosary: Please remain at home and watch Mass online or on television if you are sick or if you are in an at-risk category or if someone in your household is in an at-risk category. The dispensation from attending Mass continues for all during this uncertain time. Please wash your hands before coming to church and sanitize your hands as needed before entering, when exiting, and after contact with your face. You are asked to WEAR A MASK or other face covering upon entering the church and during the celebration of Mass, except for the brief moment of receiving Holy Communion. No missals or hymnals will be available in the pews. If you have your own missal, you may bring it for personal use. Holy water fonts will remain empty. Be mindful of six feet distance and tape markings along the floor. Families with young children should note that the cry room will not be available for use.
Entering Church & During Mass: We ask everyone to enter via the FRONT DOORS on Mayfield Road to maintain social distance and orderly seating. The elevator entrance should only be used by those requiring use of the elevator. Please maintain social distance when entering and finding a seat. Families or households may sit together but should maintain six feet of distance between their family and other fami-
lies or individuals. No offertory collection will be taken during Mass to reduce contact. We invite you to place your offertory donation
envelopes in the baskets in the front sanctuary area or near the entrance before or after Mass. Singing by the congregation during Mass is temporarily omitted to reduce aerosol spread. A cantor will sing hymns
for reflection and prayer. The sign of peace is omitted. Communion distribution will be in the form of the Host only. The full Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus
Christ is contained in the Consecrated Host. For the health and safety of all, reception of Holy Communion in the hand is strongly encouraged to avoid contact with an individual’s saliva. Receiving Holy Communion on the tongue is strongly discouraged for the duration of the pandemic and to safeguard the lives of others.
For Sunday Masses—two Communion lines will be formed in the outside aisles instead of the center aisle to main-tain distance. At weekday Mass, note that one single-file line will be formed in the center aisle.
Before approaching the Communion minister, the communicant should reverence the Blessed Sacrament with a simple bow and approach the minister with hands properly ready—with upward facing palms placed on top of each other to receive Communion in the hand. The mask may be pulled down briefly to place the Eucharist in one’s mouth and then the mask should be immediately returned to its proper position fully covering one’s mouth and nose. Please maintain six feet of space between households, especially when returning to your pew via the center
aisle.
Exiting After Mass: Please be patient following Mass to exit in an organized manner and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Bulletins will be handed out by individuals wearing gloves and masks. Note that there should be no touching, handshakes or hugs exchanged for others’ protection. Pews, doors and other contact areas will be disinfected after each Mass. Please discard any trash as you leave— and as a courtesy to our cleaning volunteers, do not leave anything behind in the pews. Thank you. Coffee and donuts and other social gatherings continue to be suspended at this time.
Other Notes: The church will be open for prayer a half hour before scheduled Masses. On Wednesday evenings the church will be open at 6:25pm for Adoration and Confession and will be promptly
locked at 7:30 pm.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the Parish Office at (216) 421-2995.
