Principal Message

It is pleasure to present the quarterly issue of the Newsletter of Vel Tech

High Tech Dr.Rangarajan Dr.Sakunthala Engineering College for the year 2017-

2018. I am very happy to meet you through this page. Vel Tech High Tech has

stood above the rest in its approach to education and in its pedagogies. The

ways we teach and the ways our students learn are unique and creative.

Education is not an act of acquiring knowledge but learning a skill to lead life

and forming one’s personality. Many constructive efforts have been taken to

improve our college results. As campus placements are progressing, efforts to

groom the students to serve the society are also in pace. I wish to record my

hearty congratulations to those who have brought laurels to the institution and

I appreciate all of you for working together as a team for the success of this

“Department of Mechanical Engineering Newsletter”.

Outcome Based Education (OBE)

Education forms the back bone of any country. System of Education

reveals the quality. As we know India has a population that is the youngest in

world and by 2020 we will have youngsters in the age of 21-24 who will be at

the start of their career, looking for good opportunities. But, in recent years in

our country we have seen a sharp decline in the employability of students

graduating from technical education, which proves to be a potential threat for a

nation that has youngest population.

Lot of initiatives that were taken to improve that quality of students, but

those gave little or no improvement. Based on lot of analysis Government

identified that the students lacked the potential skills and knowledge that are

required for employability or for pursuing higher education.

To bring improvement in the quality of education Indian Government

signed and became a permanent member of the “WASHINGTON ACCORD” on

13th June 2014, and started bringing reform under the initiative “OUTCOME

BASED EDUCATION”.

Understanding this impact and having extreme concerns over the quality

of students graduating and also the quality of graduates that we must produce

for our nation, we at our institution unanimously decided to follow the

OUTCOME BASED EDUCATION, to produce graduates who will bring up the

nation and who will shoulder great responsibilities in the near future.

OBE as the name indicates concentrates on the improvement of the

“outcomes or the required skills and knowledge” that a sudden must have at

the time of graduating. We at our institution and in turn in our school take

serious concern in attaining the attributes defined globally for the graduates.

Each program and the courses in a program are decided and also designed to

give specific skills required to enhance the quality.

Therefore, in our institution various skill development activities initiated

by our Principal Dr.E.Kamalanaban are being conducted in a way to aid the

cause of improvement.

with competency.

MISSION

❖ To impart the attributes of global engineers to face industrial challenges

with social relevance. ❖ To indoctrinate as front runners through moral practices.

❖ To attain the skills through lifelong learning.

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

VISION

❖ To produce industry ready, innovative and creative Mechanical Engineers

to meet societal challenges with moral values and research knowledge.

MISSION

❖ To impart high quality of Mechanical Engineering knowledge to students

and enhance their skills to fit for industrial practices. ❖ To inspire dynamic potential minds to think innovatively and involve

them in research and consultancy. ❖ To confer the right extent of morals, ethical values and lifelong learning to

empower the general public and to make noteworthy commitments.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) On completion of the programme, our students will,

PEO1— Design, develop and establish newer mechanical system using emerging techniques such as ANSYS, 3D Printing and Smart Materials to enhance the productivity with international standards.

PEO2— Provide sustainable, cost effective and eco-friendly methodologies for

improving existing Mechanical system. PEO3— Use modern analysis and design tools such as CATIA, ANSYS and Solid

Works, to enhance quality in Mechanical Engineering domain.

Programme Specific Program Outcomes (PSO) By the time of graduation, Mechanical Engineering students can

PSO1— Apply fundamental knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering for contributing to higher studies, teaching profession, research activities, and development of mechanical engineering and allied fields.

PSO2— Apply computational methods and analytical techniques for planning

and analyzing mechanical engineering real life problems, designing the safe, economic and managing technical activities involved in mechanical engineering and allied projects.

PSO3— Exhibit ethics in collaboration with other members of multi-domain

professional teams for the development of national sustainability.

HOSTEL DUTY (MENTORING STUDENTS)
