HOW DID WW1 END? 8 th August 1918 Battle of Amiens marks the beginning of the Hundred Days Offensive by the Allied Powers. 15 December 1917 Russia signs armistice with the Central Powers - Allied Powers lose a major player. 27 th May 1918 Third phase of the Spring Offensive - Operation Blucher-Yorck starts with the battle of Aisne and lasts until 4th of June 1918. 8 th October 1918 The Allies break through the Hindenburg Line, leading the German High Command to conclude that the war has to end. 4 th October 1918 The German government approaches the US in the hope of arranging an armistice. President Wilson responds with a number of conditions to be met in order for negotiations to be opened. 8 th November 1918 German delegation, led by Matthias Erzberger, arrives in the Compiègne Forest. Armstice negotiations begin. 9 th November 1918 Civil unrest throughout Germany leads to the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the proclamation of a republic. 11 th November 1918 The Armistice is signed at 5:10am with the ceasefire taking effect from 11am as the news travelled down the Western Front. 28 th June 1919 Treaty of Versailles is signed obliging Germany to accept responsibility for the war and pay reparations for the damage caused. 29 th October 1918 German forces are now completely exhausted and demoralised. Several German navy crews revolt. 2 nd September 1918 The Second Battle of the Somme results in German forces withdrawing behind the Hindenburg Line. 21 st March 1918 Germany starts the Spring Offensive with Operation Michael - an attempt to divide the British and French. 9 th April 1918 Second part of the offensive, codenamed Operation Georgette, launched to seize Hazebrouck. #powerofschooltrips

15 December 1917Russia signs armistice with the
