The Master’s programmes are taught alternatively in German or in English. The RWTH Master's Degree is particularly popular with international students as it is equivalent to the RWTH Diplom (German diploma at university level) and meets the requirements for admission to doctoral studies. The specific strength of RWTH's engineering departments is the combination of education and advanced research. Students have numerous opportunities to pursue project and thesis work (Studienarbeiten, Diplomarbeiten, Doktorarbeiten) in the context of ongoing research activities. RWTH’s engineering departments closely interact with national and international industries. This co- operation helps create a strong environment for joint research on both a national and international level. Industrial experts contribute to RWTH's engineering education by teaching special courses. In turn, the RWTH engineering departments provide continued education and training for industrial personnel. The study programmes have a duration of about two years. How to Apply for an RWTH Master’s Degree Programme

Since 2000, RWTH Aachen University has been offering various Master’s programmes in the engineer-ing sector geared towards international students. B. Documents required In order to ensure that all students will complete their Master’s programme within the allotted time frame, applicants will be carefully selected. The following documents must be submitted: 1. Application for admission Please print out and sign the application form (Adobe Acrobat Reader required) you have filled in

online (www.rwth-aachen.de/ioam) 2. Copy of the original final degree certificate of your studies: (Bachelor of Science/Engineering or

Sarjana I, Mühendis, Lisans, Diplôme d’Ingénieur d’Etat etc.) and a translation into the German, Eng-lish or French language, made by an officially recognized translator (copy of official University-certificate originally written in English is sufficient)

3. Copies of the transcripts or other academic records that give proof of your undergraduate stud-

ies including credits and grades obtained in every individual subject and a translation into the Ger-man, English or French language, made by an officially recognised translator. (copy of official University transcript originally written in English is sufficient)

4. Chinese applicants only: Certificate of Authenticity (Echtheitsbestätigung) from the Academic Acknowledgement Bureau in Beijing (Akademische Prüfstelle in Peking) for the Chinese certifi-cates listed under points 2 and 3.

5. Language certificates: For German-taught Master’s programmes: A copy of the certificate of the German University Lan-

guage Test (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang - DSH) or TestDaF (see above) or a copy of the German Language Certificate (Zertifikat Deutsch – ZD, minimum mark: “gut”) if you would like to apply for an advanced German language course prior to the Master Programme.

For English-taught Master’s programmes: A copy of the TOEFL-certificate, score 550 paper-

based/ 213 computer-based/ 80 internet-based, or of the IELTS-certificate, score 6.0. The ETS/ TOEFL – code for RWTH is 8504. Please note that mere certificates of participation of language courses are not accepted, only qualified certificates are valid. The ECTS/TOEFL code for RWTH is: 8504. Please note: Native English speakers may not have to provide language certificates for English-taught Master programmes. 6. GRE certificate:

For Master’s programmes marked with an asterisk (see page 3 and 4): A copy of the GRE certificate. Deadline for application: 1st of March Please observe that regular airmail may take up to four weeks. C. Selection fees In order to participate in our selection procedure, you will have to pay a fee of 50 €. This fee cannot be refunded, irrespective of the result of the application. The fee will not be refunded in case of admission, nor in case of an unsuccessful application due to a late or incomplete application or because the re-quirements for admission are not met. If you want to apply again for a later semester, the fee becomes due again. You may pay this fee by cheque or by bank transfer. Please note the following information concerning the methods of payment:
