Answers:

1.There is a Sulha Middle East Reconciliation example (2009) which extends reconcili-

ation and forgiveness in a very profound way to Sharia, so peace will be possible

2.Settle also the other issues in peace proposals and in Peace will come, why not now

3.“Back to the roots in Abraham/Ibrahim family”

4.The dependency of the world of oil is going to change, relationship with Arab countries

will change to interdependence

5.The World has other problems / challenges that urge us to cooperate, climate change, /

drought, …

6.UN Peace keeping force

7.More financial help when parties cooperate, loss of help when no eagerness for peace,

as ‘carrot and stick’ mechanism

How to deal withthe question whether Israel needs and wants peaceAnswers:

1.Peaceful coliving with partners is to be prefered, but Israel is not afraid to stand alone

2.Choose for positive way of living, also within the country

3.I met a father: “We do not want peace?! My son is in the army. I want him safe and home!”

4.Honor Bitahon Atzmi, the need for self-security

5.“Back to the roots in Abraham/Ibrahim family”

6.Not give in to prophecies about future war

7.The World has other challenges that urge us to cooperate, Climate Change, drought

8.More financial help when both cooperate, loss of help when no eagerness for peace, as ‘carrot

and stick’ mechanism

This list is not very long. And Israel is used to being and feel totally abandoned (Dr Arad). Will

object (any) sanctions. Therefor it seems justifiable that Palestinians make a first step, and

explain this well, on which Israel acts positively, so that peoples feel beginning of hope

But now Israel works via (slow) extension of settlements, which may create Palestinians

despair

Help/stimulate/reward Palestinians (Hamas, PA/Fatah) , as well as Israel, to offer an open

hand

Arabs, as seen by Jews Arabs always attacking Israel

Arabs always want more (we gave them chances, they want liberation

of more people)

Arabs are promoting terrorism

Arabs are promoting hatred

They do not respect us, “they stand on our toes”

They want to destroy Israel and our people

Suicide attacks

Less rational, therefore less predictable

Wanting to drive the Jews into the sea

Collaborating with other Muslims against us

Page 11: How to deal with the specific current within Islam that wants to see peace as temporary, and ‘never’ gives up How to deal with the question whether Israel

Jews, as seen by Arabs Occupying Arab land

Colonizing Arab land

Always suppressing us

They never execute UN-resolutions

They are always being helped by US

Make our life impossible, keep us in poverty

Prohibit us to travel to dear places, family, friends, spritual

They seem to need someone to react their grief on

They are projecting Holocaust pain on us

Jews are always “crying that Arabs are so bad to them”

They seem so convinced of themselves

What does acknowledgement mean to Israel- “We are always alone. …. No one is in our shoes”. Uzi Arad, National Security Adviser.- Recognition of Bitahon Atzmi = the most important NEED for Self-Security for our people- UN-resolutions threaten our self-security- We have a history of thousands of years, generations after generations, of being suppressed, suffering insecurity, expelled, and worse …- To not longer be victim, to be able to move from that. We have been chased by so many nations.- This was our land for so many years, and we have been exiled and suffered. Being killed, chased, de- pressed. Our religion was not accepted, they tried to erase this religion, we were not allowed to be.- People are always jealous on who we are, and accuse us for their problems. - During World War II the nazi’s tried to finish all the Jews in the world, many European countries let it happen. Our feeling is that only England and the United States helped us.- All we wanted is a safe place to live and we feel that wé are the only one that can protect us.- All our neighbors still want to kill us. Our existence feels always to be in risk.- We believe In trying to be morally, that is who we are. We have a moral culture. (That calls on critism from others, they project) But we came to a place where all the world sees us as the bad one, and they don’t see that we have no choice and are desperate of trying, nobody understands us.- “What did I do that you do this to me?”- All these experiences made us vulnerable, have hardened us: self-esteem, self-protection, self-righteousness?- “Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 23:9)- We have fear from the past (when much fear and pain you defend yourself proactively)- Israel wants continued attention from the world. After Peace, maybe attacks restart?

Page 13: How to deal with the specific current within Islam that wants to see peace as temporary, and ‘never’ gives up How to deal with the question whether Israel

What does acknowledgement mean to Palestinians- Recognition of NAKBA, the process of Palestinian Disposession since 1948- They control every aspect of our daily life!! In supermarkets even, by The Wall, …- Gaza closure, Gaza war- (we have a historical / religious past with Israel as Palestinians/Filistinians)- Admittance that Israel never listens to us- Israel put more than 11.000 Palestinians in jail- To admit that Israel occupies our land and always invents something new- Israel denies room to live for our children, women and men- Through so much, and so many years of suppression and sometimes being desperate we sometimes made an over reaction (which is/was not right of us)- The Sabra and Shatila massacre (1982), The Goldstein massacre in Hebron Mosque (1994), and many more massacres- Occupation / limitation of our Holy places- Prohibit us to travel to our dear places, family, friends (check points, Wall)- Over reaction / attack by Israel in Gaza war- Israel projects Holocaust and other pain on us, where we have nothing to do with their past- Israel never executes UN-resolutions-This is our country, even it is not formally our state, we do live here... !- “What did I do that you do this to me?”-

Where Arabs and Jews (may) agree on: To begin with a suggestion for the former sheets and to add on the phrase:

Arabs: Wanting to drive Jews into the sea … … to swim together on a nice day….

Having a great desire for peace

Desire for balance of power, without “love and peace”

Happy children, safe country, no attacks, possibility to freely travel

Liberation of prisoners if security is guaranteed

No more challenges that make us both react with more or less violence As 18-year-old participant Jafar Qutob of Nablus explains, “I want to represent my people as they

are: humans who are eager to have a better life than the one they are living today, a peaceful life without war, killing or any kind of violence. I will try to communicate and socialise with all different people regardless of their religion or nationality, and especially with Israelis, who I believe are humans like me". (Naazish YarKhan in Common Ground News Service 7sep09)

Balancing our mutual criticism: no Holocaust in Palestinian schoolbooks, no Nakba in Israeli schoolbooks …, or openness …

Oneness, but also room for differences

Financial means and work

That what is called “Religious trust”

That what we would need from “the other”: ………………. ……………….

Forgiveness, of all

… But a plea for mutual forgiveness for all. How we may be able to get out of these things is through Forgiveness and Reconciliation. Forgiveness is not meant to talk away old sorrow, no, the sorrow is real. But, one also wants to head for a new future. The Israeli asks forgiveness from the Palestinian for the suppression, the Palestinian forgives the Israeli, the Palestinian asks forgiveness for the suicide attacks, the Israeli forgives the Palestinian. The Jews ask for forgiveness for the fights (and even killings) they have between themselves. The Christian asks forgiveness for the massacres in the crusades and asks forgiveness that many “Christians” have killed fellow Christians. Muslims ask forgiveness that Muslims have killed fellow Muslims, the militant Muslim asks forgiveness for the terrorism that is being practiced in his name, et cetera et cetera. These few lines are not complete, and may even contain errors, and (pardon me) people may not feel recognized in their suffering. And we did not even mention the horrible Holocaust... But without further analysis and looking for the guilt: we all have our (sometimes very bad) tendencies as humans, men, as well as women. We ask pardon and we impart pardon.

Concerning forgiveness and reconciliation: both are in different forms and names present in the various cultures / religions. We refer to the proposal. And below we present some points

What does forgiveness mean to you?

Justice: even in our families and with our friends and collegues we sometimes do / meet injustice. What then when we expect Justice from “the enemy” /

international community?

Page 17: How to deal with the specific current within Islam that wants to see peace as temporary, and ‘never’ gives up How to deal with the question whether Israel

• Sulha is the Arabic custom to stop a cycle of violence and bloodshed, the Arabic way of reconciliation. This means returning the rights of the injured, and the dignity of all. Now being offered for the first time for such a large conflict. (Think of the African Ubuntu).

• Slicha means: ‘Forgive me’, and is said by the offender. The offender is the one who takes the initiative.

• The Jaha is the necessary, neutral, mediating party. The Jaha intervenes and arranges the Sulha. The offender is willing to confess guilt, the process has to be prepared carefully. The maker of this Peace proposal offers himself to play a role in the Jaha.

Note: there are also scenario’s where the offender does not say Slicha explicitely, but: a wooden pole, and a large white linen sheet are presented by the Jaha. In which the offended as well as the offender make knots. The white flag as symbol of forgiveness and protection of the injured parties.

Israel and Palestinians, as well as Palestinians together, may forgive and reconcile. The five main Sulha-Slicha steps (summarized very shortly):• Recognition of injures.• Compensating damage• After the offender says Slicha the offended party must forgive the ex-offender.• The parties must publicly shake hands in order to declare that the violence is over.• Sharing a meal: to show that the parties are welcome in each other’s homes and as a sign of peace.

Day 1 13:00

Hamas Recognizes Israel in similar wordings as President Yasser Arafat on Sept. 9, 1993. This is a major step, like Israel’s major steps at 11:00 and 12:00 hrs too.

Day 1 11:00

Israel Declares ”We as Israel want to 'surrender' to basic law of coexisting with our neigh-bors, but we are not free from fear from what happened in the past. We want / need 100% guarantee for our people. And stop now with the maybe unconscious projection of the Holocaust pain on the Palestinians. Today we declare and practice from now on evenworthy Arab and Jewish citizenship for all citizens in Gaza, Israel and West-bank (alfabethical), do not want an etnocracy. As soon as possible take the Wall away.

Day 1 12:00

PA, Hamas

Israel

Emphasize the sorrow of many of Hamas’ grass-roots: groups, small groups, individuals. Announces thinking of making peace with the former enemy. Liberates soldier Shalit. Because of evenworthiness of all humans wants liberation of 1 prisoner. As investment in the future. Invite Israel to liberate out of free will 450 prisoners more. “And Hamas announces to be considering recognition of Israel....” And Fatah too, where still necessary. Hamas offers trust to Israel.(Starts to) opens Gaza borders, liberates out of free will many more prisoner(s)….

WHEN DOING THIS: PA, HAMAS AND ISRAEL COMPLY WITH HUMANE NEEDS AND WITH THE CALL OF THE G8, I GUARANTEE MUCH MORE (FINANCIAL) HELP FROM THE WORLD.

Here concentration on the CORE of the Day of Acknowledgement and Possibilities now(THE NEXT SHEET CONTAINS ALL THE ACTIVITIES, ON EVERY HOUR OF THAT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT DAY)

To be followed by courageous continuation of peace proces and liberation of all

This is a short impression. Of course the wordings may be changed. The core of this proposal is at this moment to show a route to bring parties

on equal level, where one is not a 'victim' of the other. I would suggest Palestinians to take initiative and strength and 'not to wait for nobody'.

All parties to denounce violence It is worth investigating under which conditions armed forces would not be necessary anymore, neither at Palestinian nor at Israelian side. Both of them beating their swords into plowshares (Refer: top of page 5). Declared stop fighting and firing rockets, with Israel as well as with Fatah.

Day 1 13:00

Hamas Recognizes Israel in the same wordings as President Yasser Arafat on Sept. 9, 1993. This is a major step, like Israel’s major steps at 11:00 and 12:00 hrs too.

Day 1 14:00

Use the Sulha flag and/or to say: ‘Slicha’ to eachother mutually (even though this is originally a Hebrew word). Parties are talking. Analyzing the past too much is not easy. Say ‘Slicha’, as brothers. Create National Unity Government.May 14: President Abbas forms new cabinet. Hamas and Fatah restarted discussion on May 17. Probable outco-me: Joint Security Force in Gaza. But there are fights again. Talks to continue in July.

Day 1 15:00

PA (Fa-tah, Ha-mas), Is-rael, UN

For continuity in the forgive and reconcile process the parties call the ‘Obliged’ Sulha and Slicha. And invite Egypt, EU, Jordan, and US and UN as guards of this process. The ‘obligation’ creates the continuation mechanism for more help from the world (if all parties cooperate) or fall of the help (if 1 or more of the four do not cooperate).

Opening by Jaha (Mediator) and United Nations. One has to be the First. United Nations? To use Sulha flag and/or to say: ‘Slicha’, ‘Forgive me’ to the Palestinians for “offending and injuring”. And/or to start with the white linen flag (page 9). Knowing that the 1947 decision was not meant as an offense. Confrontations Palestinians – Israel are partially caused by UN’s lack in 1947-1948 in offering workable structures nor compensation, followed by mutual revenges of and disasters for the peoples. Now UN restores dignity, offers compensation. UN decided in 1947, though we choose not to look back to the detailed status of that decision, in the interest of the total solution now. The compensation by UN today can be combined with help that UN and countries give to the Palestinians.

Israel, Palestin-ians , all Middle

On Jerusalem: Old Jerusalem may become a by Israel and Palestine shared city-state. This does (more or less) work in Old Jerusalem. The 100% need for sharing Old Jerusalem has a religious background too. In this “Three Day Peace Strategy” mutual coexistence of religious relations is an important element. Ishmail and Isaac are both Abraham’s offspring. Where Abraham is said to have offered his son to God, the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount, might be the first place to try to share in a basical form and structure? To build a monument together? In Hebron the Islamic and Jewish (alfabetically) Holy Places are close to each other, and separated strongly at the same time too. Can a nice form be invented for Old Jerusalem? Respecting religious trust. Secularly: can the legal and complex structure of Brussels as Belgian as well as ‘thin’ EU-capital serve as an inspiration for Jerusalem? Water: a strong outcry which is not in my hands to realize…: water provision nowhere in the world may ever be in the hands of private companies nor being used for power play by nations nor states. We refer to “global societal responsibility” by the author of this Peace Strategy. Very many detailed studies are already available. On Israeli Settlements 1): Clarify each other’s territories. Building / continuing settlements is not according to international law. Create a for both workable as well as respectable solution. On Palestinian Refugees 1): Right of Return, this Right is holy (like Israel’s return), Return is negotiable (ref. www.wasatia.info). UN Resolution 194 / 1948: “The refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and … compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of damage of property which, under principles of internal law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible.” ad 1): On Settlements as well as Refugees: We propose “Finally free movement, conducted with wisdom”. To be practiced under the leadership of a Refugees and Settlements Committee of the two states. Stimulated by “obliged forgiveness and reconciliation”: more financial help from the world if all continue to cooperate. Design a two states solution: the borders of both states to be clarified. Add a states cooperation covenant of Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt?, Syria?, Lebanon?, Iraq? (Iran?) But 'thinner' than a federation, think for instance of Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg (Benelux), but different and ‘thinner’. Specifically to work on wellbeing for the peoples. Combining advantages of separate states and one state. With more help from the world when all Forgive and Reconcile. UN may offer a Peace keeping force. There are signals that Jews and Palestinians genetically are close. Is this relevant, and/or sufficiently scientifically proven? Could there sooner or later be a closer cooperation of two states towards one. Even like the two Germany’s? Where Germany may help?

The Beginning

Trust building needs guidance and leadership. And connecting generations.

A Dutch saying: trust comes by foot and leaves by horse …

One economical statement on the future: let economic results after peace go to the people

and not to merely to project developers.

24
