Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel.

Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that

we may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord,

AMEN.

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

God of mercy and grace,

we have sometimes thought wrong things,

and done wrong things and

we have not always loved each other as we should.

We are sorry.

Forgive us and help us to love and obey you ,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution {Celebrant}

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn

to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your

sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal

life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day

O God, you invite the humble and the sinful to take their place in the

festive assembly of the new covenant: teach your Church always to

honour the presence of the Lord in the poor and the outcast, so that we

may learn to recognise each other as brothers and sisters gathered

together around your table. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for

ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Readings from CEV

First Reading: Hebrews 13:1-16

Keep being concerned about each other as the Lord’s followers should. Be

sure to welcome strangers into your home. By doing this, some people have

welcomed angels as guests, without even knowing it. Remember the Lord’s

people who are in jail and be concerned for them. Don’t forget those who

are suffering, but imagine that you are there with them. Have respect for

marriage. Don’t fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have. The

Lord has promised that he will not leave us or desert us. That should make

you feel like saying, “The Lord helps me! Why should I be afraid of what

people can do to me?” Jesus Christ never changes! He is the same yesterday,

today, and forever.

But don’t forget to help others and to share your possessions with them.

This too is like offering a sacrifice that pleases God.

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 14

beginning at the 1st

verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

One Sabbath, Jesus was having dinner in the home of an important Pharisee,

and everyone was carefully watching Jesus. Jesus saw how the guests had

tried to take the best seats. So he told them: When you are invited to a

wedding feast, don’t sit in the best place. Someone more important may

have been invited. Then the one who invited you will come and say, “Give

your place to this other guest!” You will be embarrassed and will have to sit

in the worst place. When you are invited to be a guest, go and sit in the

worst place. Then the one who invited you may come and say, “My friend,

take a better seat!” You will then be honoured in front of all the other

guests. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you

humble yourself, you will be honoured.

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,

Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in

remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith

with thanksgiving.

Baptised Christians who receive communion in their own church

are invited to share communion with us.

Communion wine may be received:

(a) from the common cup from (drink or intinction)

(b) from an individual glass on request from the first Eucharistic Assistant.

Or you may choose to receive the wafer only (Communion in one kind).
