As the end of the first semester nears, I wanted to take a moment and thank the
entire Huntertown Elementary family for all of the hard work that has gone into a successful
first semester. Our students have made great strides in many areas and we could not do it
without your help. Thank you for all that you do for your children and their education here at
Huntertown Elementary. I hope you all have the opportunity to spend time relaxing and enjoying
family activities over the upcoming Winter Break! -Mr. Meyer
Morning Drop Off Reminders
Thank You
We begin allowing students into the building at 7:30 each morning (8:00 on Wednesdays). I
appreciate those of you who shut your engines off when you park early, it makes a huge
difference for our students!
Drop off is between 7:30 AM and 7:50 AM in the circle drive. Wednesday drop off is
between 8:00 AM and 8:20 AM. IF YOU ARE LATER THAN THESE TIMES, YOU ARE
REQUIRED TO SIGN IN YOUR STUDENT. Please park in the lot at door one, go into the
office and sign your child in on the appropriate form.
Please do not drop off students in the fire station parking lot or the back staff parking lot
by Door 4. Only drop off in the circle drive.
I want to commend everyone on their courtesy and overall polite driving in the circle drive. I
know we get crowded some mornings, but your diligence in this matter allows for things to
flow as smoothly as possible!
I appreciate all of your help as we make our car rider procedure as safe for the students as
possible!

Musical Notes - Mrs. Sefton
Happy Holidays! Here’s what’s happening in Music!
Kindergarten – We just finished our Thanksgiving program, where we worked on performance skills,
pitches, and rhythms.
1st Grade – These kids worked really hard on their Christmas program, and learned about diction,
posture, and expression.
2nd Grade – We are writing notation, working on tempo names, and step, skips, and repeats.
3rd Grade – Solfege, dynamics, and form, are some of the things we are working on. Also, parents,
please be aware that the 3rd grade program has been changed from March 10th to
March 17th because of Huntertown Hoops.
4th Grade – We are working on recorder, music road maps, and aural instrument recognition. Please
mark your calendars for FAME on March 19th. Students should be practicing recorder
at home daily.
5th Grade – These kids did some artistic interpretation on Camille Saint Saens’ piece, Danse
Macabre. They are working hard on their harmonies in choir, and are continuing to
learn to play their band instruments. A minimum of twenty minutes a night practice on
instruments is recommended.
A Note from the Superintendent Dear Parents,
I hope your school year is going well. As we approach the holiday season, and the shopping that generally accompanies it, I wanted to
inform you of the following.
At some point before spring break, NACS will be finalizing its plans to begin full implementation of its 1:1 computing device project.
We plan to begin full implementation of the project with all 9-12 students receiving a laptop as a part of book rental next fall. If
property tax cap losses and the price of the devices will allow, then grade 6-8 students may also receive a laptop as a part of book
rental next fall. All content areas have been challenged to reduce book rental fees to offset the cost of the laptops; however, it will
take at least six years to cycle through all book adoption fees, and many book companies do not offer discounts for access to digital
content. The book rental costs related to laptops could be as much as $75 per year per device; the exact cost will not be known until
after the cost of the device is finalized and the amount of property tax cap losses are certified for the 2016 calendar year. Because
of the increasing requirements of state mandated testing, the laptops offered through book rental will be necessary.
My intent in sending this message is to remind you prior to the upcoming holiday shopping season of the 1:1 project that began last
spring. In the meantime, I hope each of you enjoy time with your family and friends during the many holidays that we will have the
opportunity to celebrate over the next couple of months.
Respectfully, Chris Himsel
F.I .T.T. Wi ldcats - Mrs . Frank
Thank you to all the parents for assisting your children with the Mad Ants 30 days of fitness
log sheets. I was very impressed when I looked at the log sheets. It made me smile.
I have not heard if we had the highest percentage of log sheets turned in this year. I will let you know
when I receive word from the Mad Ants organization. Please consider supporting your child with this
worthy challenge next year.
The month of November turned out to be a great month both in the gym and outdoors.
Due to the nice weather, a few grade levels were able to split their PE time both outdoors and in the
gymnasium. In November, the students demonstrated arm strength, abdominal strength, speed/
agility, and balance. It was rewarding to observe the students demonstrating strength, balance, self-
confidence. Veteran’s Day Boot Camp was a challenging workout for the students.
The lessons for December will be cooperative games using the SST Scooter Boards.
It will be very helpful if your child comes to school on their PE day dressed conducive for these activi-
ties. Girls should avoid wearing dresses or skirts and if they have long hair please use a pony tail hold-
er to tie back the hair or braids are wonderful too. Headbands fall off unfortunately.
Scooter board activities provide beneficial exercise…plus, improvement with handwriting!
Research states that there is a link between balance, stability, posture, coordination, and handwriting.
Scooter board activities foster the development of those important skills. The students will be taught
how to safely ride on the scooter board and will be able to experiment with two different riding styles.
Physical Education class offers a unique platform for your child to be challenged by demon-
strating effort, active listening, and sportsmanship. Please remind your child of the importance of
proper behavior in Physical Education.
Counselor ’s Corner - Mrs . Hudson

Winter weather has arrived… Please ensure your child has warm cloth-
ing to go outside! They will go outside if it is above 10 degrees. Just a quick
reminder: Do not send your child to school if they have a fever of 100.0, diar-
rhea, or vomiting in the last 24 hours. The school also does not supply stu-
dents with Ibuprofen and Tylenol. If your student needs that occasionally, you
may send in a small bottle with a medication permit form for your student.
If you are notified that your student is ill or in-
jured and needs to go home, please have a plan to pick up
your student within 30 minutes. Situations and illnesses
happen and parents need to have a plan. If you work an hour
away, try to line up an emergency person who can pick up
your student. Also—it is very important to notify the of-
fice of updated phone information.
The clinic has a limited supply of clothing to loan
students who may need a change of clothes due to an accident or wet play-
ground, etc. If your student has borrowed clothes from the clinic, please wash
and return them to the school. If your child has outgrown any stretchy type
pants/ sweatpants and you can donate them to the clinic if you like.
(Please- NO jeans)
If you have any questions, I am in the clinic from 8:30 A.M. – 2:30 P.M.,
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Wednesday 8:50 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

2nd GRADE – soup, spaghetti sauce, macaroni, spaghetti, laundry detergent
3rd GRADE – canned fruit and vegetables, juices, crackers, hot chocolate packets, toothpaste
4th & 5th Grade items should be smaller in size so that they fit inside a standard-sized shoebox:

and games, jewelry, socks, gloves, candy
5th GRADE – gloves, AA batteries, personal grooming items, hair accessories, nail products, nerf
