    WHaT makEs THETRumP CHICaGOHOTEl sOdIsTINCTIVE?

Theres so much tothis property. The buildingitself is architecturally stun-ning; as the second tallestbuilding in Chicago andthe seventh tallest in theworld it has now becomeintegral part of the citysbeautiful skyline. Whetherits in the guest rooms,Sixteen (the propertysaward-winning restaurant)or Rebar (the cocktail andsushi lounge), the views ofLake Michigan, the ChicagoRiver and Chicagos histor-ic architecture are unpar-alleled. Chicago magazine

just named The Terraceat Trump the citys bestoutdoor lounge in part be-cause of its amazing viewsof the city and the sum-mer fireworks that takeplace in Chicago everyweek.

The hotels guestrooms and suites arespacious, contemporaryand luxurious. Every guestroom is outfitted with a fullkitchen featuring only thefinest in appliances, chinaand stemware. In additionto our great restaurants, guests can also orderfrom an in-room diningmenu that was the firstin the country to be cer-tified organic or better

yet, they can request thatour executive chef, Frank

    Brunacci, cook for them

in their suite! The Spa atTrump is a 23,000 square-foot facility that includes11 treatment rooms, aheated indoor swimmingpool, fully-equipped car-dio and weight rooms and

yoga and spinning studios. There are also 53 special-ly-designed guest roomslocated on the spa level, which are perfect for aspa getaway.

As the final phase ofour build-out, we recently

completed the River Walk, which is adjacent to theChicago River and servesas both a gathering placeand a gateway to thefamed Michigan Avenue. What really unites all ofthese components, though,is the service. It is nearlyimpossible to find serviceas efficient and graciouselsewhere. Our guestsknow that Trump Chicagois truly a home away fromhome.

    WHaT dOEs THERECOGNITION mEaNTO yOu?

It is an incrediblehonor for the Trump HotelCollection, and a testa-ment to our vision forbuilding and managing thebest hotels in the world.Awards like these are greatmotivation to maintain ourposition, and continuallystrive for more.

WHaT Is yOuRfaVORITE PaRTOf THE TRumPCHICaGO HOTEl?

When Im not eat-ing at Sixteen, I love TheSpa at Trump. Our signa-ture gemstone massagesfeature oils from Dubaithat are infused with ru-bies, sapphires, emeraldsand diamonds. That ser-vice, followed by one ofour Kate Somerville fa-cials, is the perfect wayto unwind.

I know you wereheavily involved in thedesign and constructioneven down to the staffuniforms.

My brothers and Ioversaw the Chicago proj-ect we worked closelywith the architects, design-ers and construction com-panies involved to definethe aesthetic and see itthrough implementation.

We gave consideration toevery detail, down to theuniforms worn by the hotelstaff. I wanted to ensurethat every piece was asrefined as the propertyitself. Each look was de-signed to reflect the as-sociates purpose and thearea of the hotel in whichthe uniform is worn. Thetrick was to balance styleand practicality to createa fashion statement thatwas understated, fluid andcontemporary.

    COVER STORY

The road down real estate development is nev-er an easy task, it is full of many unexpected twists

and turns, but there was never a question of how

businesswoman Ivanka Trump would handle the

ride when she got behind the wheel of construct-

ing the Trump Chicago Hotel back in 2008. She had

been preparing for it most of her life. From the start,

Ivanka has been blessed with an incredible business

savvy and strong guiding principles that are hard-

wired into her DNA and her passion for the Trump

brand has just paid off. Travel and Leisure Magazine

recently named The Trump International Hotel

&Tower Chicago No. 1 as the Best Large City Hotel

in the America for 2010 and the hotelier, designer

and author speaks candidly with Hollywood Weekly

about success of the Trump Chicago, her attention

All it took was some killer rockmusic and an anxious crowd fillingevery inch of Sunset Blvd. to cre-ate the perfect welcome for rockfavorites sung by many talentedstars including Slash, the SmashingPumpkins and even the talented andsexy Fergie!

A wild, yet controlled, crowdaccumulated over three days onLAs famed Sunset Blvd., during theintense Sunset Strip Music Festivalheld from Thursday, August 26thto Saturday the 28th. Like always,Saturdays performances drew out

major bands, such as Slash andSmashing Pumpkin. At the last min-ute, The Dutchess and Black EyedPeas star herself, Fergie, decided to

join Slash on stage to rock out a fewall-time hits including Hearts famedsong Barracuda and Guns N Rosesall time-favorite hit Sweet Child OMine. And the fans? They werewatching the most beautiful Sunsetthe strip has ever offered.

The larger-than-life crowddanced, threw their arms up in theair, fought for the perfect picture andsang along with the A-list singers! It

was an event some fans wait forthroughout the year. Having Slashplay live on the Sunset Strip is likethe ultimate concert; its nothing likelistening to a concert held in a ven-ue like The Greek; this is so muchmore authentic. Hollywood Weekly mag-azine launched their August2010 issue with an industrysoire at plush Bar 210 atthe Beverly Hilton. I wasntat the event long before Irealized there was some-thing truly unique going onunder the soft pools of lightin this swanky hotel bar. Tomy left, ordering his secondglass of champagne, stooda long time talent managerwho had just finished ex-plaining to me the best wayto go about packaging a

script. To my right sat a mu-sic marketing manager fromWarner Music Group, here toscope out the artist gracingHollywood Weeklys Augustissues cover. Next I spot-ted actor and musician MikeRossi, who can be seen allover this season of Bravossmash hit Million DollarListing, chatting up a sultrybrunette obviously absorbedby his charm. Prying himselfaway for a moment, he gave

me the scoop on his currentproject, Creative Collision,an LA-based arts and musicmovement that combines livemusic with visual and per-formance art. At a quietercorner table, up and comingwriter/producer Ben Bostickdiscussed his latest featurefilm with Kristen, an enter-tainment news director.

As the flow of guestsinto the posh lounge in-creased, so did the pho-tographers flashes. ChrissySutphin and Tasya Swisko, account execs from LuckMedia & Marketing were onhand to oversee yet anothersuperbly executed show-case for their client Christa

spot on reviews made merethink everything I thoughtI knew about modern alter-native comedies. BrandonGibson, the publicity andbranding gun-for-hire whosbeen ahead of trends in LAfor years, made his rounds.I met manager MichaelDybnis, who summed up

his client strategy withhis ever-ready slogan, Illkeep you famous. Therewere screenwriters on thesmoking patio, an about-to-break fashion designer bythe back bar, and an en-tertainment lawyer had justarrived.

At this point, I had tostep back and survey thescene. Staring out overthe now bustling lounge, something struck me aboutmy company: these were

the people in the businesswho actually get thingsdone. Ive been to manyan event in Los Angelesdubbed under the guise ofan Entertainment IndustryParty, but the majority ofthese events consist of re-cent LA transplants scour-ing a lackluster crowd foranyone they think theyllbe able to hustle into fur-thering their brilliant (andinexplicably stalled) act-ing careers. To a writerwhos covered those types

of events before, thereseven something olfactoryabout that whole sceneits the smell of shamelessself-promotion, with notesof desperation, and subtle

hints of fraud. This eventwas far different. And forthat matter, the only de-tectable scent was themouth watering aroma oftruffle oil wafting from theplates of gourmet slidersexiting the Bar 210 kitchen.Something very unique, andvery refreshing was hap-

pening here. This eclecticcross section of entertain-ment industry profession-als had been assembled byHollywood Weekly magazinewith the Hollywood Weeklybrand as their sole com-mon bond.

It has been saidthat networking, in its fin-est form, exists truly as achemical reaction. Tonightthings were synthesizingall around me. Individualsin totally unrelated areas

of the business were mak-ing connections. It wasntabout back scratching andit didnt matter if the directbenefits of their relation-ships were apparent. Artand business, talent andopportunity, musicians anda racecar driver, all throwntogether in a pot and sim-mering. And remarkably itfelt very organic. Publicistsand PR reps mingled ele-gantly, while the celebritiesand the suits sipped marti-nis and perused the pages

of the Hollywood Weeklymagazines that were dis-played throughout thelounge. People were genu-inely enjoying themselves.

Just after 9pm the soulfulsounds of Christa Borden andher band filled the posh BeverlyHilton space, and the partygravitated toward the stage. Herupbeat Better than She Canenergized the room, and her di-verse selection of cover tunes, everything from the Eurythmics toMGMT, kept us in the groove. Butit wasnt until she hit the eerie,soul-bearing notes of Drowningthat we really got it. It wasnt justthe tragic beauty of her lyricsthat had us all transfixed, but thesincerity in her voice.

After her set, I asked Christa

about her song writing process. She described how, Sometimesinspiration is this mythical beastthat drags me out of bed andforces me to sit at the piano inthe middle of the night and some-times it is the tiniest moment ora person I meet. Though hermuses change, shes always look-ing for new ways to be inspired.

I suppose deep down it isthat ever present drive to get ahold of some solid inspiration, ormaybe sometimes the quest fora cocktail, that brings us out to

these types of events in the firstplace. From what I could tell onthat summer night at Bar 210, noone left empty handed.

HOW dId yOu bECOmE INVOlVEd WITH THEsIlVER lakE/suNsET JuNCTION dIsTRICT?

In 1980, I moved to Silver Lake and but worked as ahairdresser in Beverly Hills. When I arrived, there was a lotof tension between the Gay and Lesbian and gang commu-nities because many people felt we were causing gentrifica-tion and were to going uproot the residents who lived there. There was a lot of gay bashing happening at that time.

HOW dId yOu dEal WITH THE sITuaTION?

Others and I were heavily involved in marches andpeace protests for Gay and Lesbian rights in WashingtonDC and Sacramento. Coming from that experience, the gaycommunity felt empowered and wanted to bring peaceto the neighborhood. Therefore, we created the SunsetJunction Neighborhood Alliance and wanted to have a blockparty as a way to bring the community together.

HOW dId IT GROW INTO a sTREET fEsTIVal?

Our goal was to celebrate diversity in harmony. Wetalked to a number of non-for profit organizations and localbusinesses to sponsor and support our cause. We receivedwonderful feedback from the residents. At that time, therewere 15 to 16 different gangs in the surrounding areas ofSilver Lake, Echo Park and Los Feliz. We reached out to ElCentro del Pueblo, a nonprofit organization that interactswith the gang community, asked if they would call a truce

during the festival, and invited the gangs to act as securityfor the event.

WHaT Was THaT fIRsT ONE lIkE?

Sunset Junction festival came off smoothly. The policewho had predicted we would have a blood bath on thestreets, over reacted with swap teams. However, since therival gangs acted as security, there was no violence thatweekend. We thought we would only have a few hundredpeople show up and instead tens of thousands came outto support us.

It is amazing. You justnever know what your journeyin life will be. The energy ofthe festival is so real and theimpact its had on the neigh-borhood has been phenome-nal. The Sunset Junction hasbeen extremely popular withAngelenos and has put SilverLake on the map. It is a nicelegacy.

The Sunset JunctionAlliance is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and theSJ street festival is our mostimportant fundraiser of the

In last decade, SilverLake has become home tomany young people who donot appreciate the 30-yearlegacy of the Sunset JunctionStreet Festival. Putting theevent together has proven tobe more challenging in recent

years. For instance, the priceof admissions has been aproblem. The 15-dollar entryfee has been a psychologicalbarrier with the young peopleand they feel they do nothave to pay it. However, wegive away 5ooo free wrist-bands to the community tokeep the festival thriving.

WOuld yOu say THEfEsTIVal sERVEs as asusTaINING fORCE INTHE COmmuNITy?

Yes. The street festi-val brings in lots of moneythat keeps the neighborhoodthriving and pulls it together. Its takes a lot of patience toget newer residents to under-stand what Sunset Junctionis. Throughout the years, wehave had many people whohave graduated through ourprogram who come backas adults and parents andhelp with the festival because

of how the SJNA programschanged their lives. The sadpart is if we ever decide topull out there would be ahuge hole left in the commu-nity. People should educatethemselves more about SJNAand our mission and place inthe community.

Its incredible that its alreadybeen 40-years since the release of TheNight of the Iguana; the movie that putthis then-remote Pacific coast fishingvillage of 12,500 souls on the map andcatapulted it into a movie location fa-vorite. How times change. Make itthere soon and you just may run intoBradley Cooper whose recently been inPuerto Vallarta filming important scenes

Mercifully, youll find very few modern con-structions of popular American chain restaurantsnow ever present in beach resorts such as Cancun.Sorry, no low-fat grande vanilla lattes available onevery corner here- youll be hard pressed to finda Starbucks (a welcome reprieve). Instead, withinthe traditional concrete and brick buildings alongthe tree-lined paths, youll find bakeries turning outdozens of delicious pastries, boutiques with hand-made clothing, relaxing sidewalk cafs, lively bars

and tiny markets with unique local products.Within the windy streets of this eclectic archi-

tectural mix youll find one of Vallartas most fash-ionable and scrumptious restaurants, de Santos. This cosmopolitan restaurant is one of the mostavant-garde in all of Puerto Vallarta packed withHollywood-type beautiful people. Within its adobewalls and century-old brick archways contrastedwith modern, clean and simple white walls, is aplace where the rich locals and trendy visitors goto dine and party the night away. This hot spotwith flickering candles, soft lights and a rooftopsky bar certainly make this the place-to-be-seenin Vallarta.

Si senorita, throw on that low-back sexy dress

that shows off your tan, but also be ready tosuck in your stomach after eating in the restau-rant! The menu offers yummy appetizers such asthe popcorn shrimp and gourmet foods such asthe homemade ravioli stuffed with lobster, ricottacheese and eggplant. Not to mention the incrediblewine and cocktail selections; such as the Coco, ascrumptious drink made of Vodka Grey Goose, milkand crme of coconut. www.desantos.com.mx

After a night of partying at de Santos, youllneed a remarkable place to stay and thats wherethe truly astonishing The Quinta Maria Cortez comesinto play. Just south of town awaits this exclusiveHollywood-worthy bed and breakfast. Dont let theB&B label fool you however; this is not a simple

place to just eat and sleep. Really, its a slice ofheaven that masterfully combines beautiful antiquefurniture that could easily be in a French chateau, along with a dramatic design and exquisite views. This Mediterranean Villa is truly unique with itsseven tiered levels built into the hotels white sandybeach front cliff. The brochure is right, it really isa bit of whimsical tropical antiquity by the sea.The panoramic ocean view all-suite accommoda-tions do feature Wi-Fi and phones even thoughmost people take refuge in escaping the modernworld within the open walls of these villas. Andonce theyre combined with European ingredientsbrought to Mexico many years ago which are nowstaples; such as beef, cheese and pork amongmany others; you end up with a taste you willnot soon forget. These quality ingredients havegiven this charming mostly outdoor courtyard-likerestaurant a wonderful reputation and large clien-tele following.

So, por favor, leave the concept of El Toritosfried and frenzied menu behind as you sip on atequila or an authentic raicilla (a homegrown ver-sion of tequila) with soft traditional Mexican musicplaying in the background. Its as if the native vanilla scent reachesCalifornians in the air! Countless people think ofPuerto Vallarta as a perfect vacation spot whileencompassing all the ingredients for the idyllichoneymoon. But more and more, Californiansare looking to Vallarta as a place to get married. The warm weather, ocean breezes, friendliness ofthe people, and easy accessibility by air are allattractions. Le Kliff restaurant is one such idealwedding location. Its located about 20-minutessouth of Vallarta almost literally at the end ofthe windy car-accessed road in the lush Bocade Tomatlan area. One step into Le Kliff is allit takes to understand why its been a perennialfavorite for diners seeking extreme elegance withspectacular views. The romance of the restaurant

is only enhanced by its purplish-blue sunset hueswith views of the jungle and ocean surroundingthe cliff-top location. Waves crashing against therocks below and Latin Americas largest strawpalapa (umbrella-style roof) only add to the lus-cious ambience. Receptions can be held right onlocation and the space can elegantly handle upto 200 people. www.lekliff.com

Puerto Vallarta is a spectacular sun-filledoasis; even when the tropical rains fall, its stillwarm and serene. Sure, newer Mexican resortdevelopments such as Cancun and Los Cabosmay be slightly better known, but theyre also

just the creations of government planners andland speculators. Puerto Vallartas historic heart

remains pure while other ocean resorts lack anyreal historic atmosphere. For more than 40-years,this seacoast town on Banderas Bay has grownlike the bougainvillea on its many terraces intothe plush, colorful coastal escape it is today. Acombination of the sights and sounds awaken

your senses, much the way the wind feels as itblows through your hair. The media may screamthat Mexico is dangerous every day, but, the bor-der towns that experience the violence are far,far away from Puerto Vallarta. In fact, the onlydanger in Puerto Vallarta is the threat that youllnever want to leave.

    REVIEW

Taking the work out of nutritionSo they say losing weight and keeping it off is 75% nutritionand through many experiments that I would rather not men-tion, I tend to agree. Eating foods in the most natural formthat you can find should be a law. I was fortunate enough togrow up eating organic and all natural before it was the inthing to do. We lived in a one-room apartment, wore Kmartclothes and rolled in a beat up royal blue Chevy Nova (theystopped making them for a reason) but my Mom made sureshe bought the healthiest foods, often from the local co-op.

As kids, my brother and I longed for a snack drawer with

the likes of Oatmeal Crme Pies, Cool Ranch Doritos and ELFudge Cookies. Instead, we enjoyed natural fig bars, home-made frozen creamsicles, made from natural yogurt and o.j.and faux fudge consisting of natural pb, powdered milk andhoney. We dreaded the moment our friends would say, Imhungry. But embarrassed no more and frankly, Im extremelyblessed that

I have adopted my Mothers nutrition know-how. I guess youcan say I was born knowing about nutrition so I am gonnahook you up with how to make it convenient in this amaz-ing City of Choices. I have spent hours and hours loggingdaily calories into the Notes section on my iphone. Diggingcans and boxes out of the garbage after I forgot to log thecalories, but not before I threw away the chicken fat, coffeegrinds and moldy pasta sauce. Fun times! Maybe I could

keep up with that if I was in my early 20s again when allthat really mattered was being skinny and figuring out nextFridays outfit. Life has happened and I need convenience butassurance that what I am eating is what they say it is andprovides me with energy to run a company, 5 miles, and afast moving social calendar. Im not Oprah or the Queen andlike the majority of us common folk, do not have a personalchef on my payroll. Im not hating, Im just saying.

Meal Delivery ServicesTalk about freakin convenience! Holy Moly are these thingsa blessing for the busy woman (or man) that is asking fortheir food to simply show up. If you totally want to checkout of putting any thought into what you eat while still fol-lowing a strict diet and appropriate calorie level then this isfor you. The only problem is that there are a ton of mealdelivery services to choose from, especially in LA. So I re-searched them all and tested the 3 services that I thoughtencompassed convenience, deliciousness, health, and in trueFrankie J style Realness.

Susans Gourmet - Irvine, CA(Susanshealthygourmet.com)Sometimes its the little things that make me fall in lovewith a company or service, which is the case with Susans.I feel like there are a bunch of grandmas, moms and auntsnestled in a kitchen preparing these meals with the fresh-est of ingredients and the best of intentions. I visualize myGrammas kitchen on a Sunday evening as all of the womenprepare a fresh meal, often with ingredients from my UncleHerkys garden.

Susans does cutie little things like attaching a sheet with the

Monthly Specials that include Nutritional tid-bits. The foodwas great and I even chose the lowest calorie option. Thefreshness was obvious by the taste but they pride themselveson only needing orders 48 hours before delivery time, whichis awesome for those of us who have a hard time committingway in advance. If only all of life was so flexible. Meals canbe very strict and customized based on calories. When order-ing you have the options of quick and easy ordering where

you pick the calories and they pick the meals, or pick nchoose ordering where you pick your own meals. The mealspromote good health, not just weight loss. A complete daysmeals meet or exceed the daily nutritional guidelines recom-mended by the American heart Assn., the American CancerSociety, and the American Dietetic Assn.

Allow me to introduce myself. My friends call me loyal, men callme constantly but you can call meFrankieFrankie J., that is. Youwont see me on lifestyles of the Richand Famous but, quite frankly, youwont see me at Wal-Mart either.Im just your typical Hollywoodhip-chick looking for love, moneyand opportunity in a city where itis all around and ever elusive. Butisnt that what were all here for?

This is my column and I give it toyou. Besides, whats the fun in hav-ing something amazing if you cantshare it?

Lets be real for a moment and byreal I mean, were gonna talk aboutreal life, real love and real people in atown where youre blessed when youfnd anything real. But when you dofnd it, youd better appreciate it andhold on to it with both hands.

In this new Hollywood WeeklyColumn, I am interested in only thecoolest products, services and experi-ences by the realest of people. Imnot promising to solve world hunger, and Im defnitely not a shrink, buthey, Im gonna be frank. to anticipate and to some extentaccommodate tardiness and delaysas a fact of intercultural life. In theWest time may be money, but goodwill is solid gold worldwide.

America is one of the mostindividualistic of all Western coun-tries. From birth us Americans feelentitled to life, liberty, and the pur-suit of happiness. Here we have

no problem whatsoever looking outfor number one. Entrepreneurshipis second nature to us. Most of uswant to be our own boss and makea unique mark upon the world.

In many highly collectivist non-Western cultures, American-style as-sertiveness is considered immodestand therefore discouraged. Withgreat difficulty have I tried to ad-vise international students and cli-ents how to sell themselves duringinterviews and presentations. Thesesame individuals may hesitate toaccept deserved awards and pro-

motions at work. Again, awarenessis a key to improvement.

I can honestly say that someof the very best people in my busi-ness network are bi-cultural. Theresourcefulness required to copedaily with life in a different lan-guage and culture seems to drivethem forward. Their dual orientationcan open doors to brilliant oppor-tunities. Their own struggles mostoften foster a deep compassion for

human limitations that compels them togive back to the community. Most ofall, their passionate belief in the abidingpromise of the American Dream restoreshope for the future.

My working relations with interculturalassociates have enriched my life beyondmeasure. All have taught me so muchboth in and out of the classroom.

In parting, the issues I have raisedin these three short editorials are only

the tip of the cross-cultural iceberg. The2000 U.S. census estimated that 53% ofCalifornia alone is immigrant. The 2010census may reveal that this number is onthe rise.

The global economy binds its citizenstogether more tightly every day. Whateverour motives, intercultural understandingcan only better our actions.

The title for my feature filmis Gods Kids. It is a comedy inwhich three deadbeats think theycan solve their financial and employ-ment woes by entering the catholicpriesthood, but end up unknowinglybecome a part of an evil priests

plan to destroy a declining parishfor personal gain. By trial and mucherror our three heroes attempt tosave the parish and their souls. Thethree main characters (Protagonists)are completely different from eachother; one is a drugged-out hippie, the other is a pessimistic jerk, andthe last one is quite the ladiesman.

After being fired from picking uproad-kill, the protagonists have hitrock-bottom. They meet a catholicpriest who works in a wealthy partof town and after seeing how goodhe has it, they think they can dothe same. The protagonists enrollin the seminary. Meanwhile, a priesthigh up in the diocese (Antagonist) istrying to pull off a huge real estatedeal with the city to sell propertywhere a church and school are builton, but its in major decline. Theantagonist and his assistant whosan alter boy pull the protagonistsout of the seminary early, fool theminto thinking theyre going into aninternship program, and place themin the declining parish, where they

hope that they will be the last pieceof the puzzle that will drive it intobankruptcy. The antagonist and hisassistant whos an 18 yr. old alterboy have a low-key romantic relation-ship thats quite humorous. When theprotagonists arrive; they meet their

pushover principal, a senile deacon, and an attractive, but innocent nun.The deacon is old and out of hismind, but he performs many of thechurch duties so the protagonistsare also assigned duties to helpout with the school. The protago-nists dont really care about their

jobs; the ladiesman becomes themarriage counselor where he sleepswith unhappy housewives, the hippiedoes drugs and is a bus driver, the

jerk is a drill sergeant gym teacherthat gambles with other teachers onthe students when the play games. The hippie lets his homeless drug-

dealer move in with them, where theyscrew around, trip on acid, and getinto adventures around the parish.Through out the film the ladies-man and the nun develop a strongrelationship. The nun reveals to theladiesman that the parish is in deeptrouble, so he convinces the othersto help turn things around. Theymake progress, but the antagonistreveals that theyre frauds and theyare excommunicated. The protago-

nists are out on the streets; theladiesman becomes a stripper, the

jerk is a cab driver, and the hippiepicks up elephant dung at the zoo.The nun and deacon investigate whathappened to the protagonists anduncover the antagonist plan. The nun

tells the ladiesman and he convinc-es the others to save the parish. With help of the nun, the protago-nists ruin the antagonists plan andare let back into the priesthood bythe bishop. The ending fast-forwards

years later; where the ladiesman andnun get married and become bible-hugging Catholics with lots of kids, the jerk is an old school/pre-VaticanII type priest thats really strict, andthe hippie becomes the pope.

If you dont know someone in Hollywood with a screenplay, then you dont know

someone in Hollywood. Ask any waitress or valet, and most likely theyre working

on the next great movie blockbuster. But, before they can thank the Academy, they

have to pitch their idea to a producer, and that is where the Hollywood Weekly can

assist. In this new section, we ask aspiring screenwriters to submit their pitches to

be viewed by those in the industry who actually have the power to make decisions.

Now sit back, relax and let the pitch begin.

It was a sweltering summer daywhen I motored into Los Angeles.A recent film school graduate, Iwas wet behind the ears. Literally, dripping with sweat. My car wasstuffed and roasting. It felt like Iwas driving a turkey as I inched

south on the 405. The stale breezefrom my air conditioner offered nosolace. Why does the cold air alwayssmell like a robot farted? I watchedthe heat rise from the blazing seaof taillights and sighed. Id heardof needing breaks to make it inL.A., I just had no idea they weretalking about the traffic. The Clashwas playing on the radio. Rock theCasbah! I drummed along on mysteering wheel. Mercifully, the lanesstarted moving again. Someonehad broken down and rubberneck-ing had caused the gridlock. AsI approached the crippled vehicle,

I tried not to pry like the othernosey onlookers, but as I passed Itoo did a double take. The unfor-tunate motorist was a clown whosefire engine red clown car had aflat. Despite his painted smile, hewas yelling obscenities into his cellphone and kicking the deflatedtire with his bulbous shoe. I droveaway thinking, there were probably20 other clowns in that car. Howcome none of them were helping?

L.A. is an eccentric place -- amix of fact and fiction, achieve-ments and failures and corn or

    1) Novel Mores, Drama

Far from the typical or classic boy-meets-girl or love story, this

story isnt very romantic, at least in the traditional sense. Its a storyabout sex with and without relationships and the dangers of certainlifestyles. Casual sex is used purposefully for good against the ultimatehypocrite. The story has some humor but is not superficial fluff orescapist fantasy. It will probably make some people uncomfortable(who probably wont admit it). It doesnt neatly fit into any genre andthe characters arent typical or stereotypical (e.g. cardboard cutouts). Can be shot as R or NC-17 (TVMA). From my novel (xlibris.com).

    2) Life Value, Drama(most suitable for cable movie and series)

People with acute health problems are recruited for the oppor-tunity to take advantage of their situations and make a difference, contributing to the greater good. Interesting yet plausible characters

(that audiences can relate to and/or care about) take on new rolesand important new challenges. Unconventional actions and behaviormay make this story uneasily heartwarming, possibly controversial andupsetting. Action is purposeful and necessary. May be inspiring aswell as controversial or discomforting. Tailor-made for anthology-typeseries with new people recruited into new situations each week.

    3) The Rescue, Drama

Because of an injury, two atypical criminals need to be rescuedfrom a rugged rural locale. To be safe, they call two acquaintances (atechno-nerdy guy and a younger waitress who are strangers to eachother) to help them out. They meet each other before heading tothe rescue site. A deputy and her ex-navy seal husband, whose cabinthey broke into, also return. Twists, turns, and double-crosses in this

    low-budget story that avoids clichs.

    4) Chance Crossing, Drama

Why would a connected entertainment mogul be after a down-on-his-luck guy who finds himself homeless? Did his comments on suicidelead to the death of a teenager? Sometimes things are not as theyappear. Two event chains cross in a story of deceptions, perseveranceand compassionate people needing to be needed. Inspired by realexperience. Subtle nuanced roles for good actors.
