Ever since they were founded at the height of the 1970’s UK Reggae scene, Misty In Roots have been loved for the uncompromising mix of spiritual and militant Roots Reggae. This is a band that will always sing praises to Jah and chant down babylon.

Misty In Roots began life as a Southall-based British roots reggae band in the early 1970s. Their first album was the 1979’s Live at the Counter Eurovision, a record full of biblical Rastafarian songs. This powerful, atmospheric live album is a classic and often consideredthe best live reggae album ever. It was championed by radio DJ John Peel, helping to bring roots reggae to a white audience. At this early stage, the band was a collective with five lead singers and various musicians, though by the time of the second album the band had slimmed down to just three members. Along with Steel Pulseand Aswad, Misty In Roots are on of the most popular English Reggae bands of all time.

After a break from recording in the 1990s, they returned, releasing a new album in 2002, and continue to play concerts to rapturous audiences across the world. Advance booking strongly recommended.

After a busy 2011 of UK Festival apperances and major venue tours, hot property band Show of Hands - 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards double winners - come to the brewery in October 2011 showing just why they have been showered with accolades.

Editorial Design

This brief asked to design a magazine (which included a front cover, contents page, splash page and turnover page) of your choice under the heading transport. I chose to do a motorbike magazine aimed at 17-25 year olds or anyone who is interested in motorbikes. I gave the magazine a young and masculine feel.

They say “between love an madness lies obsession,” and maybe this is the right word to describe the relationship between men and their motornikes. They wash, polish and spend money on them so as they look their best. So why this obsession with their motorbikes...?

Earlier in the year, Bennetts Insurance had run a competition on the Bennetts Facebook page to give all bikers, whether they were a Bennetts customer or not, the chance to enter a free draw It was on a very foggy, damp Tuesday morning on the 27th September that I arrived early at the new Snetteron 300 circuit along with 80 delighted Bennetts Ultimate Track day competition winners, to experience the sheer thrill of riding round the new Snet-terton 300 circuit. Whilst everyone was inside the Snetteron restaurant enjoying their breakfast and safety briefing, the great British weather duly obliged and the fog lifted revealing a gloriously hot, dry, sunny and windless “Indian” summers day, perfect conditions for a track day.

Mindful of many riders inexperience, Focussed Events mandatorily set everyone’s bike tyres to the lower pres-sures required for racing round a track, obviously saving many from an early spill due to over inflated tyres.

Well currently they don’t come any bet-ter than recently retired and former World Superbike Champion James Toseland and current MotoGP and Moto2 stars Cal Crutchlow and Scott Redding.

Yes you did read correctly, all bikers whether they are a Bennetts customer or not! We believe Bennetts is the only motorcycle insurance intermediary in the UK market that currently does this; giving away a full track day to any biker who enters their free competition and is lucky enough.

It’s no ordinary track day, from the racing stars on hand, to a free English breakfast, a full lunch as well as track day instructors to help with your riding . The track day was provided for Bennetts by track day experts ‘Focused Events’. Registration was feverish with 80 people,

plus invited media and other VIP guests all trying to get registered before the registration ‘window’ closed, whilst trying to find time to get to the restaurant and enjoy the great breakfast

that had been laid on and get their bike’s exhaust noise level checked.

There was a real buzz of excitement and anticipation from all the winners, all hoping the early morning fog would lift so that no track time would be lost!

Before anyone got near the track, Focused Events held a full and thorough safety briefing, emphasising that whilst the idea of the day was to have fun, safety was paramount and that all the track day rules must be followed without question. “There is so much more to motorbiking than just the ride.” This quote sums up how motorbiking isn’t as simple as just riding a machine, it suggests the deeper meaning to it. Motorbiking is a lifestyle and an obsession, and there are many different people, of varied age groups, all with different reasons on why they own a motorbike.

Summative Assesment

This brief was an open brief and asked to show the things I had learned in the first semester. The design had to include: typography and images marshalled by the use of some kind of grid and structured approach to information and printed on a 2D surface which could be folded or turned into a multi-page document.

Portfolio Website

The breif asked to design a portfolio website to show my work. I had to build the website from the beggining using the skills and knowledge I had learned from my html and website lectures/workshops. I created a simple and modern website, making my work the main focus.
