Threading the needles
The needles must be threaded insequence blue — pink.
Threading the two-thread chainstitchneedle (A):
Thread the two-thread chainstitch needlein sequence 1 to 7. The thread path ismarked blue (triangular symbol).
Important: At point 6, pull the threadinto the guide wire eye from the right, then pull about 5 cm (2”) of threadthrough the needle eye.
Threading needle B or C (with or withoutneedle A).
Thread the overedge needle in sequence1 to 6. The thread path is marked pink(point symbol).
Important: At point 5, pull the threadfrom the right behind the black threadretainer and the thread guide wire aboveit. Then pull about 5 cm (2”) of threadthrough the needle eye.

Threading overedge needles B and C(without needle A).
Thread overedge needles B and C insequence 1 to 6.
The thread path for needle B is markedblue (point symbol), the one for needle Cis marked pink (point symbol).
In this case, pull both threads behind theblack thread retainer and the threadguide wire above it. Then pull about 5 cm(2”) of thread through the needle eyes.
Important: Only sew with either one ortwo needles (depending on stitch type).
Now close the work support (1), push thehandle down (2) and close the loopercover (3).
Inserting the lint box:
Insert the tabs of the lint box into theslots (4) of the front cover.
Seam depth scale
Example:If the seam depth of the cutting is to be20 mm, the cut fabric edge must beguided along the 2Omm mark on knifeguard 10.
Push the lint box up against the frontcover until it snaps in place.
Use the reverse order to remove lint box.
Setting the standard thread tension
The thread tension to be set depends on the fabric type and thread size used.
Make the correct adjustment after examination of the interlocking of the threads (see pages
18 to 22).
Set the N on the thread tension dials opposite the respective color symbol.
Only for the blue thread tension there are two standard settings:
When using needle A (only for two-thread chainstitch), the N must be set opposite the blue
triangular symbol.
Only for stitch type 6 (needles B and C), the standard thread tension N for needle B must
be set opposite the blue point symbol.
The mauve tension is only needed for two-thread chainstitch.

Securing the seam: Or:
Knot the thread chain. For knit fabrics,
a crochet needle can be used to pull thethread chain into the seam.
Sew about 5 cm (2) beyond the end ofseam. Then turn the workpiece aroundand sew a few stitches over the seamjust sewn without cutting the threadchain.
On this machine, all kinds of fabric fromextremely thin to extremely thick can beprocessed. When sewing extremely thickfabrics or workpieces with differentthicknesses, the screw of the upper knifemust be tightened, as shown in theillustration.
When sewing thin or medium fabrics, thescrew of the upper knife holder must beloosened by about 2 turns.
Explanation:The screw of the upper knife holderserves to tighten or loosen the horizontalguide of the upper knife.

Adjusting the stitch length
With the main feed dog stop pressed down, set the stitch length (ito 4) indicated on handwneel 11 opposite mark A
The standard stitch length is indicated oy N (3 mmt
Note: the handwheel can not be turned past stitch length numbers 1 and 4, respectively.
When the desired stitch length s set, release main feed dog stop and close work support 15
The differential feed prevents inter-ply shift. It consists of two feed dogs, arranged one
behind the other, which both pick up and move the workpiece at the same time
The feed amount of either feed dog can be set separately. It is possible to have the
workpiece moved more by the front feed dog than by the rear one and vice versa. Owing to
that very good sewing results are accomplished. Set the differential feed according to the
material you wish to process (see table on page 28). The following settings at button 16 are
possible:
Setting 0.5 = Short stroke of front feed dog, long stroke of rear feed dog
Setting — = Same stroke of both feed dogs
Setting 1 5 = Long stroke of front feed dog, short stroke of rearfeed dog
Setting 2 = Front feed dog set for longest possible stroke, roar feed doq set for shortest
possible stroke
The differential feed can be set infinitely from 0.5 to 2, also during sewing
Note:
The following variants can be employed to obtain fashionable effects on garments
The gather effect is obtained at a differential feed setting of 15—2 when light fabrics are
processed.
The wave effect is obtained at a differential feed setting of 0 5 when medium o heavy elastic
fabrics are processed.
L_
Adjusting the differential feed
is table indicates possible settings of the differential feed. In order to make sure about the setting
iuired for the fabric you wish to process. a sewing test has to be made.

The hem is trimmed, serged and sewn in2 1, 3one operation. Before starting sewing in hem section
-3—. cut in by 2 cm.Ply shifting in the hem is thus avoided.
Place the prepared hem under the sewing
foot so that part —3— of the folded hem
is under guide —2—, Folded edge —4—
must run along edge guide —2—.
The penetration of the needle in the
fabric must be adjusted.
Loosen regulating screw —1— and adjust
edge guide —2— so that when the needle
penetrates the fabric only one thread is
caught.

Pearl sewing toot (Fig. 1)
This special foot is used for attaching pearls, spangles, strass tapes, lead tapes and
cords. These sewing operations are carried out with needle B or C only.
1. Set differential feed at — ,see page 27).
2. Engage pearl sewing foot.
3, For small pearls, remove needle B.
For big pearls, remove needle C.
4. Pass the pearl tape through guides 1 and 2 up to the end of the foot (Fig. 1).
5. At all seam width settings, it is possible to sew with or without upper knife;
lead the fabric along the right sewing foot edge.
6. Important: The upper knife may only be used within the range of N to 5
(see page 31).7. Stitch length: 3 to 4 mm
8. Determine the proper thread tension by sewing a trial seam (N = standard setting)
Note: If the pearl tape is sewn to the fabric edge, needle C must be removed
(disengage upper knife).
Thread tension: pink = —3 to —5green = —1 to—3yellow = +2 to +3
The needle should enter the fabric 1 to 1.5 mm from the fabric edge (see Fig. 2).
