The meeting was attended by Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) Administrator of Lakshadweep, Cabinet Secretary Shri P. K. Sinha, CEO, NITI Aayog Shri Amitabh Kant, Union Home Secretary Shri Rajiv Gauba, Secretary Defence, Secretary Tourism, Secretary, Tribal Affairs and other Senior Officers of Central Ministries of Tourism, Power, Defence, Health, Telecommuni- cations and Civil Aviation. Vice Chief of Naval Staff and Air Commodore from Indian Air Force were also present during the meeting. The Island Development Agency reviewed the progress made towards preparation of Development Plans for identified Islands (four in A&N Islands i.e. Smith, Ross, Long, Avis and five in Lakshadweep i.e. Minicoy, Bangaram, Thinnakara, Cheriyam, Suheli). For these Islands, Final Site Suitability Reports have been prepared, Carrying Capacity determined and Environmental zoning carried out to ensure sustainable development. The CEO, NITI Aayog made detailed presentation giving details of actions taken in pursuance to decisions taken in earlier meetings. The Union Home Minister expressed satisfaction at the progress made since its last meeting held on November 8, 2017 when directions were given to identify additional Islands for sustainable HM chairs third meeting of Island Development Agency Development projects on anvil in 26 Islands in Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep development and also accord priority to key infrastructure projects. Further, after carrying out systematic study, 18 Projects, both in Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep, have been identified for implementation, out of which 7 Projects are ready for launch through PPP. 3 such projects in Andaman & Nicobar (one each in Long, Smith and Avis Island) and 3 in Lakshadweep (one each in Suheli, Minicoy and Rs. 650 crore investment expected in various projects; Restricted Area Permit regime to be relaxed for tourism promotion CS to inaugurate 'Golden Jubilee Gate' of JNRM Port Blair, April 25 The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar will be inaugurating the newly constructed 'Golden Jubilee Gate' of JNRM at 6.30 pm on April 27, 2018. The Secretary Education, Shri Arava Gopi Krishna will be the guest of honour during this function, a communication said. (Contd. on last page) Port Blair, April 25 The Port Blair Municipal Council Solid Waste (Handling & Management) Bye-laws 2017 was notified during May 2017. As per the bye-laws, the definition of Bulk Waste Generator means that on an average waste generation rate exceeding 50 kg per day. However, it is noticed that most of the Bulk Waste Generators are violating the Bye-laws. The PBMC has, time and again appealed to the general public to handover the waste generated to the sanitary workers on usual payment specified under Schedule-III of the Bye- Laws, 2017. In case of any contravention of the Bye-Laws, fine ranging from Rs. 500/- to Rs. 10,000/ - as provided in the schedule-I of the Bye-laws shall be imposed for each occasion of offence. In case repetition of the offence, the fine amount will be doubled. In order to keep the city neat and clean, PBMC has intensified the drive and imposing penalties on the violators. It is pertinent to mention here that during the last one week Sanitary Inspectors has levied penalty an amount of Rs. 98,000/- and the same has been recovered. The PBMC has also appreciated that the general public are co- operating with the PBMC and their larger co- operation is much needed to implement the bye-laws in efficient & effective manner. PBMC urges people to handover waste to sanitary workers; intensifies drive against violators Rs. 98,000 recovered as penalty in a week Port Blair, April 25 The latest of the Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mark IV series ship, INLCU L53, was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Port Blair today, by Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, ADC, Flag Officer Commander-in- Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command. The commissioning ceremony was conducted as per naval traditions and witnessed by many senior officers from the Indian Navy, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard. INLCU L-53 is the third of the eight LCU Mark-IV ships designed and built by M/s Garden Reach Ship Builders & Engineers Ltd., Kolkata. Two ships of the same class, INLCU L-51 & L-52 have already been commissioned in 2017. Speaking on the occasion, the Admiral reiterated the importance of indigenization & self- reliance in ship building and congratulated M/s GRSE for having delivered another fine warship to the Indian Navy. He said that the commissioning of such ships is an important milestone in the Indian Navy's progress from a Buyer's Navy to a Builder's Navy. The Chairman and Managing Director of M/S GRSE, Rear Admiral V K Saxena informed that the premier ship building company is planning to offer its 100th ship to the Indian Navy during this financial year itself. This ship is equipped with state of the art systems like Integrated Platform Management System and Integrated Bridge Management System. The ship is also fitted with an Electronic Warfare suite, and day/night capable armament systems. Displacing nearly 1,000 Tonnes, with an endurance of over 1,500 nautical miles, the ship is capable of moving at sustained speed of 12 knots, the maximum speed being 15 knots. The advisory has been issued as instances have come to light that during recruitment by the various Police forces in the country, some people try to project that they can use their influence to 'fix' the recruitment. The modus operandi of such conmen is to accept money from some gullible candidates on the pretext that they shall be able to use their influence to get them selected. However, no individual or organization is in a position to exert any such influence on the recruitment process of A&N Police. All members of the public and all candidates have been warned not to be misled and cheated by such cheats. Strict legal action shall be initiated against any such cheats. The A&N Police recruitment process is absolutely fair, transparent and based on merit. The Public as well as the candidates are advised that if they have any such information about such cheats, they may give this information to SP (CID) on 03192- 233307 or SP(Anti- Corruption) on 03192- 240840 or SP(HQ) on 03192-230841. bye-laws, the definition of
