My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Please accept my pastoral greetings and concern for you, the good Faithful in the Diocese of

Venice. My prayer is that the preparation for the Lord’s coming during this Advent Season will enliven

our hope in the promises of Christ.

Allow me to update you regarding Masses as the COVID19 Pandemic continues to impact the Diocese

and all of us. Considering the present circumstances of the virus spread, the General Dispensation for

Mass attendance is extended into the New Year and I will advise regarding its conclusion at a future

date.

There are some optimistic signs and there are increasing numbers of the Faithful returning to

Church for Sunday Mass. Also, there is greater weekday attendance. Please continue to make every

reasonable effort to return to inperson worship if you are able. With gratitude, I acknowledge all who

have returned and commend those who continue to join the live streaming of Mass due to vulnerabilities

and those who care for them. Further, let us all keep in prayer our brothers and sisters who have had the

virus and their families.

As Christmas and the New Year approach, it is crucial to maintain vigilance regarding safety

precautions in Parishes. This necessitates scaling back celebrations and holiday related

events.Unfortunately, it cannot be as it was in the past. Particularly, I underscore the need for the

wearing masks, maintaining appropriate distances, as well as cleaning and sanitizing measures. Parishes

have been encouraged to schedule more Masses for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day than is

customary. Having additional Masses, perhaps at different times or in different locations (Parish hall or

gymnasium), will safely accommodate the potential numbers of Faithful who may attend Mass for

Christmas.

At this challenging time, let us be united in prayer as we journey through the Advent Season in

preparation for the Birth of Our Lord and Savior.Be assured of my prayers for you and your family!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Collection for the

Religious Retirement

Fund is

Sunday, December 13th

In good times and bad, senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have dedicated

themselves to service and acts of mercy. Today, they pray for an aching world. Yet, years of serving for

little or no pay have left their religious communities without enough retirement savings. Your gift to the

Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and other necessities. Please be

generous.

As we prepare for the coming of Jesus, we

remember that Jesus is our hope and our peace.

From the prophet Isaiah, “For a child is born for

us, a Son is given to us, upon His shoulders

dominion rests. They name Him WonderCounselor,

GodHero, Father Forever, Prince of Peace.”

      Isaiah 9:5

The November annual collection of canned goods, clothing, furniture, cash and

online donations for our Sister parish, St. Michael’s in Wauchula, was a

success thanks to all of you. When the truck arrived at St. Michael’s Parish on

Sunday, November 15

th

, Sr. Gema had a big smile on her face and her team of

helpers quickly unloaded all the treasures. Thirtyeight boxes of food, $75 in gift cards,

and a check for more than $1700 were presented to Sr. Gema. She was very appreciative.

The Young Vincentians and the Knights of Columbus provided extraordinary help

throughout the weekend. Mark McCabe of C&M Road Builders, Inc. provided the trailer

and delivered our load to Wauchula.

We are grateful for our parishioners’ generous understanding, care, and partnership as you

help us continue the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s mission to feed, clothe, house, and heal

friends in need.

CATHOLIC FAITH APPEAL

As you consider your Christmas giving,

please remember the CFA. Giving to the

CFA expands your charitable reach touching

the lives of many in our Diocese with

ministerial and counseling services and

material needs. Let your donation speak

loudly of your care of others during this most

holy season of giving.

The Children’s Guardian Fund (CGF) and the

Sarasota Technology Users Group (STUG) have

teamed up to collect used laptops. STUG sanitizes

hard drives using a sevenstep process to completely

eliminate all the data. Then they refurbish them

and install software that is typically required for

school. The laptops are distributed to area students

in foster or statecare through the Guardian ad

Litem Program.

Donate an old laptop by dropping it off at the parish

office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until

Penitential Act

I confess to almighty God and to you my brothers

and sisters that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts

and in my words, in what I have done and what I

have failed to do. (strike the breast ) through my

fault, through my fault, through my most grievous

fault; therefore I ask Blessed Mary, everVirgin and

all the angels and saints to pray for me to the Lord

our God.

Gloria

Refrain: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth

peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we

glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory.

Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Refrain:

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God,

Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the

sins of the world, have mercy on us, you take away

the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are

seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on

us.

Refrain:

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the

Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with

the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Refrain: Amen

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of

heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten

Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God

from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from

heaven, (bow head) and by the Holy Spirit was

incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on

the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He

ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand

of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge

the living and the dead and his Kingdom will have no

end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with

the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who

has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and

I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the

life of the world to come. Amen

Preparation of the Gifts

May the Lord accept the Sacrifice at your hands for

the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and

the good of all his Holy Church.

Scripture Readings

Page 13

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

IS 40:15, 911

Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God.

Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that

her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated; indeed,

she has received from the hand of the LORD double

for all her sins.

A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of

the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a

highway for our God! Every valley shall be filled in,

every mountain and hill shall be made low;

the rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough

country, a broad valley. Then the glory of the

LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it

together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Go up on to a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad

tidings; cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem,

herald of good news! Fear not to cry out and say to

the cities of Judah: Here is your God! Here comes

with power the Lord GOD, who rules by his strong

arm; here is his reward with him, his recompense

before him. Like a shepherd he feeds his flock; in

his arms he gathers the lambs, carrying them in his

bosom and leading the ewes with care.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 85

R\. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us

your salvation.

I will hear what God proclaims; the LORDfor he

proclaims peace to his people. Near indeed is his

salvation to those who fear him, glory dwelling in

our land.

R\. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us

your salvation.

Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace

shall kiss. Truth shall spring out of the earth,

and justice shall look down from heaven.

R\. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us

your salvation.

The LORD himself will give his benefits; our land

shall yield its increase. Justice shall walk before

him, and prepare the way of his steps.

R\. Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us

your salvation.

A Reading from the Second Letter of Peter

II Pt 3:814

Brothers and sisters:

Do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the

Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand

years like one day. The Lord does not delay his

promise, as some regard “delay,” but he is patient

with you, not wishing that any should perish but that

all should come to repentance. But the day of the

Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will

pass away with a mighty roar and the elements will

be dissolved by fire, and the earth and everything

done on it will be found out. Since everything is to

be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought

you to be, conducting yourselves in holiness and

devotion, waiting for and hastening the coming of

the day of God, because of which the heavens will be

dissolved in flames and the elements melted by fire.

But according to his promise we await new heavens

and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Therefore, beloved, since you await these things, be

eager to be found without spot or blemish before

him, at peace.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to

Mark MK 1:18

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son

of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he

will prepare your way. A voice of one crying out in

the desert: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make

straight his paths.” John the Baptist appeared in the

desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the

forgiveness of sins. People of the whole Judean

countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were

going out to him and were being baptized by him in

the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins.

John was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt

around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey.

And this is what he proclaimed: “One mightier than I

is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and

loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you

with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be

our protector against the wickedness and snares of

the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;

and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the

power of God, thrust into Hell Satan and the other

evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin

of souls. Amen

Hail, Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen. Mother of Mercy, our life, our

sweetness, and our hope! To you do we cry, poor

banished children of Eve; to you do we send up our

sighs, mourning and weeping, in this veil of tears.

Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of

mercy toward us; and after this our exile, show unto

us the blessed fruit of your womb Jesus. O Clement,

O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O holy

Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the

promises of Christ.

Prayer Before Confession

Lord our God, you are patient with sinners and

accept our desire to make amends. I acknowledge

my sins and I am resolved to change my life. Help

me to celebrate this sacrament of your mercy so that I

may reform my life and receive from you the gift of

everlasting joy. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayer for Vocations

Lord, you call all of us by name to follow your path.

You always bless your Church and guide followers to

become leaders who think of others before

themselves. Mold us in the image of your Son to

respond to your call as Sisters, Priests, Brothers,

Deacons, and Lay servants of the Gospel. Embolden

us all to grow in knowing of you and allow this

knowledge to open our hearts, mind, and souls to

your enduring call. We ask this in Jesus name.

Amen

Blessed be his Holy Name

Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man

Prayer Before the Crucifix

Behold, O kind and gentle Jesus, I kneel before

you and pray that you would impress upon my

heart the virtues of faith, hope, and charity with

true repentance for my sins and a firm purpose of

amendment. At the same time, with sorrow, I

meditate on your five precious wound, having in

mind the words which David spoke in prophesy,

“They have pierced my hands and my feet. I can

count all my bones.” Psalm 22

Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I

have sinned against you whom I should love

above all things. I firmly intend, with your help,

to d penance, to sin nor more, and to avoid

whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ

died for us, in his name, my God, have mercy.

Rite of Penance, no. 45.

For Peace

Mary, Queen of Peace, save us all, who have so

much trust in you, from wars, hatred, and

oppression. Make us all learn to live in peace,

and educate ourselves for peace, do what is

demanded by justice, and respect the rights of

every person, so that peace may be firmly

established, Amen

Come Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send

forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you

shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who has instructed the hearts of your

faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit grant that

by the same Holy Spirit we may have a right

judgment in all things and evermore rejoice in his

consolations. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen
