INFO 522 Assignment Week 5
________________________________________________________________________ REMINDER: In order to receive full credit for an answer you must answer the question, which includes:
showing your search strategy (all searches that led to the results you’re presenting)
a screenshot (or other information) showing your overall results
the requested number of document records, showing the bibliographic citation, abstract, and subject-related indexing for each item
commenting on the appropriateness, relevance, and/or usefulness of the articles you’ve chosen
See “Submitting Your Homework” for details on how to handle submitting the homework. ________________________________________________________________________ 1. Find dissertations in Sociological Abstracts from 2007-2013 about the digital divide. Use a
different field code for each of your concepts and conduct the search using the field codes you have chosen. Display two records in the required format.
Keim3
I chose the above article because I believed that it would show the best information for the question. The question does not specify exactly what type of information it was looking for in the dissertations except for that they include digital divide.
Again, this article seemed to provide the best basic information. Most of the dissertations included specific geographical locations. This one did not include that in the title leading me to believe it was more well rounded on the topic. 2. You’ve discussed topics like digital reference and chat reference in your Drexel classes and
want to learn more. Search Library & Information Science Abstracts (LISA) for research articles on the topic(s).
Keim4
Try to use controlled vocabulary terms and field searching—discuss any issues that you encounter. Note that this question mandates that the articles be reporting original research and that there are many ways to talk about the topics.
Keim6
The above two articles seemed to show information that would be useful in furthering the information that I have already learned in the class. The thing that I struggled with was finding synonyms for these terms. LISA’s thesaurus did not offer much when it came to searching for synonyms. I chose to use online reference in the place of digital reference and seemed to yield more results.
3. Your colleague has two teenage children who seem to be very attached to their Wii
and Xbox games—she’s interested in finding out more about potential problems (she’s read about kids with various behavioral issues and wonders if there’s such a thing as video game addiction). You don’t have access to PsychINFO in ProQuest Academic, but see what you can find on ERIC. For this question you must use the ERIC Thesaurus to develop your search strategy. Your search must be based solely on thesaurus terms.
Keim9
The above two articles will give the colleague a chance to get a look further into the research of video games and adolescents. This is a subject that is just starting to be deeply researched. The first article discusses the long term problems that can arise in the use of video games such as future gambling and aggression problems. The second article looks in to teenagers based in Ontario but will be useful to the colleague as well. It looks into the complications that can arise based on video games by evaluating the different aspects in the teens life and how they are being affected. 4. Here’s an opportunity to use a feature in Advanced Search (after doing all of your
subject searches in Command Line mode).
The chair of the marketing department is interested in the notion of “ambush marketing.” Using ABI/INFORM, create a search in Advanced Search mode that focuses on the concept by including only article title and abstract fields in your search.
After you’ve completed your search, use the “narrow your results” options to
Restrict your search to only trade journals, scholarly journals and magazines (include a screenshot showing how you did this)
Keim10
Give me a top 10 list of the most productive sources that have articles specifically on ambush marketing (include a screen shot to show your results)
Show the top 10 subject terms. If you put them together, can you get a notion of what “ambush marketing” seems to be about? (include a screenshot to show
your results)
Show three articles that you think your patron would find interesting—in citation/abstract/subject (not full text) format. Justify your choice.
