Trainer’s

Biography

Dr Chan was a Senior Clinical Psychologist of Kwai Chung Hospital

and has vast clinical and supervisory experiences in both child and

adult mental health. He is now in private practice. Apart from clinical

work, he also consults with different NGOs. Dr Chan is an Adjunct

Associate Professor of the University of Hong Kong.

Course

Description

Mental health problems are complex in their aetiology and

development. They often run a protracted time course with

multi-factors involved. An accurate assessment is a core step paving

the way for effective intervention. M-AiM is for evaluation of

common psychiatric symptoms with a focused intervention plan as

an outcome. It has a substantial theoretical background building on

DSM (APA, 2000 & 2013), Recovery–oriented Practice Model and

Evidence-based Practice (Nice, 1999). M-AiM has experimented in

different local community mental health centres with positive

feedback of having active client involvement, being systematic and

precise in focus.

biography

Mr. Cheung, a registered social worker, had practiced in the field of

Community Development, Children and Youth work as well as

Rehabilitation Services for about 20 years. Before Mr. Cheung

changed his career to the legal profession, he was the Assistant

Director of Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong. Mr. Cheung was

admitted as a Solicitor of the Hong Kong SAR in 2013. Currently, Mr.

Cheung is a Solicitor in private practice and he also works as a

part-time field work supervisor and part-time lecturer in The

University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University

respectively.

Course

Description

The course will cover legal issues in the application of the Mental

Health Ordinance (Cap.136) (“MHO”) in voluntary admission,

involuntary admission and detention of the mentally incapacitated

person (“MIP”); the granting of guardianship order in respect of the

power to require the MIP to attend at places and times so specified

by the guardian for the purpose of treatment or training; and the

management of property and affairs of the MIP. Relevant cases will

also be discussed.

Objectives

1. To enable the practitioners to understand relevant law in

voluntary admission, involuntary admission, detention, the

granting of guardianship order and management of property of

the MIP;

2. To enable the practitioners to identify legal issues in respect of

the legal rights of the MIP during voluntary admission,

involuntary admission and detention in the mental hospital;

3. To enable the practitioners to identify legal issues in respect of

the term and effect of the guardianship order; and

4. To enable the practitioners to identify legal issues in respect of

the management of property and affairs of the MIP.

Module 3 : Introductory Mental Health Recovery & Well-being

biography

Mr. Wong graduated from Master of Clinical Psychology from The

Chinese University of Hong Kong. He works as a clinical psychologist

in the New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association. He offers

psychological assessment, individual and group treatment for adults

in needs. He participates in researches on ADHD, mindfulness and

well-being. He offers training and consultation to other professional

staffs and low-intensity CBT therapist.

In the 1-day workshop, the participants are facilitated to:
