A number of doctors may slip into deceptive practices that they assume will “do no harm” and may well help their patients. However, lies do harm to the integrity and credibility of those who tell them. Lies hurt their colleagues as well; many doctors go to great lengths to provide truthful information, but the suspicious of deceit renders their work inefficient. Worse still, wariness of deception leads to a continuous increase in charges f malpractice and the doctors are obliged to resort to “defensive medicine.”
