Innovation• Long history of involvement with Mooring R&D and has led the industry in

innovative thinking that has resulted in many technological advancementsfor the oil and gas industry.

• Pioneer in the use of Deepwater Pre-Set Moorings to increase efficiencyand water depth capabilities of floating vessels with the development ofsuction anchors, the patented SEPLA (Suction Embedded PLate Anchor),and polyester rope and taut-leg moorings.

• Currently involved in multiple joint industry projects, industry committeesand forums – contribution to the development and improvement of theoffshore industry's practices and technologies.

18

Innovation – SEPLA Anchor• Combines advantages of suction embedment and proven plate anchor

technology• Uses suction embedment follower with plate anchor slotted into base to

install plate anchor• Follower is then removed by reversing pump action, leaving plate at

depth• Plate is then rotated to orientation close to perpendicular to direction of

load• Geotechnically efficient shape

19

Innovation – SEPLA AnchorCOMPARISON:

MODU Example:Suction Anchor SEPLA

2,90m diameter x 21,30m 2,45m x 6,10mWeight 68 tons Weight 24 tons (solid fluke)

Permanent Mooring Example (Red Hawk Spar) Suction Anchor SEPLA

5,50m diameter x 23,80m 4,60m x 9,15mWeight 180 tons Weight 37 tons (hollow fluke)

Mooring Design• MODU MOORING DESIGN AND RISK ASSESSMENT:

– MODUs have gotten bigger and staying at one site for longer periods of time.– There are more permanent deepwater production systems with higher

production rates.– There is much more subsea infrastructure.– Governments, regulatory agencies, companies and the general public have put

more emphasis on protecting the environment and offshore assets.– Hurricane and typhoon design criteria and regulatory requirements have become

more stringent.

InterMoor's extensive understanding of mooring components,installation methods, and analytical simulations means we can evaluatethe probability of failure, consequence of damage and the associated riskto deliver robust, reliable, and cost effective mooring systems.

21

Forecast– Shell Moorings & Conductors – BC-10 Phase 2

– Permanent Mooring Design and Installations

– Moorings & Positioning MODU Spot Market: OGX, Statoil, Maersk Oil, Karoon, Vanco, ONGC, etc.

– LLX – Porto do Açu: Shore Base support area for Oil & Gas Industry with heavy lift, inspection, logistic, spooling services and etc. – Start operations in 2013

22

Forecast– Mooring Maintenance: Mooring Integrity Management (MIM)

• Maritime history shows that permanent mooring fails in a widerange of WD and environmental conditions

• Records show that failures are caused by a variety of mechanisms(wear, fatigue, abrasion, corrosion, damages from installationoperations, inspection operations, and dropped objects, flawedmaterials, excessive tension, etc.);

• Statistics at North Sea show that the probability of failure peroperating year is relatively high;

• Statistics also shows that most part of units cannot monitor linetension or offsets, do not have line failure alarms or adjust linelengths or have spare parts available;

• Mooring integrity is gaining interest: it is not acceptable for apermanent production unit to be with a damaged mooring system;

23

Forecast– Mooring Maintenance: Mooring Integrity Management (MIM)

• Interest in MIM becomes more prevalent;• MIM programs tailored to encompass:

– regular inspection and evaluation of mooring system in-placecondition

– Identification and execution of routine maintenance operationsto reduce potential of failures

– Analytical prediction of a mooring line’s probability of failurebased on mooring system condition, line measurements,previous real world operating and survival conditions and

– Mooring repair plan (MRP) to identify market installationvessels, mooring suppliers, installation suppliers, developoperations procedures to repair line components before orafter failure occurs with little or no production loss down time

– Procurement, fabrication, storage and maintenance of sparemooring components and installation aids;

• The majority of existing Units assets are installed and operatingWITHOUT mooring system monitoring and load measurement. Theintegrity is based only on inspection and maintenance;

24

Forecast– Mooring Maintenance: Mooring Integrity Management (MIM)

• MIM for New Units should not only include a inspection,maintenance and MRP. There is the opportunity to augment thesystem in a real time line measurement equipment to realize acomprehensive MIM program.

• InterMoor has developed the Inter-M-Pulse direct in line tensionmonitoring system. The system send the real time measurement tocontrol room, detailing line inclination, orientation and curvature ofmooring line;

• For new Units, a comprehensive MIMcould be developed before the failureoccurs, offering the opportunity tomonitoring systems for more accurateand predictive probability of failureestimates (using real time mooringline measurement and monitoringsystem).
