SIA POWERTRAIN // ROUEN 2016 - 1 & 2 June, 2016

Dear participant,

The worldwide demand for lower emissions and for better fuel efficiency is dominating powertrain development activity today, with a focus on conti-nuous improvements to the powertrain design, the use of alternative fuels and hybridization. The modern compression ignition engine is providing an efficient solution to these challenges and to changing mobility require-ments, not only for passenger cars but also for industrial needs and goods transportation in fast-growing worldwide mega cities. With low CO2 emis-sions, the compression ignition engine is still a cost-effective and popular solution for many users and will be a key contributor to further reducing CO2 emissions beyond 2021.

The upcoming European Euro6c emissions regulation intends to intro-duce real driving emissions requiring new engineering efforts in light-duty powertrain product development, engine testing and vehicle calibrations.

The challenge of this real driving emissions will be mainly to control emis-sions over the whole operating range of the vehicle at an affordable cost and without compromising fuel economy. For heavy-duty applications, the CO2 emissions regulation under preparation will also be the major driver for innovation in powertrain for both freight and passenger transport.

The Clean Compression Ignition Engine Conference aims at giving powertrain developers and researchers the opportunity to get an overall picture of state-of-the-art technologies and anticipate future challenges and actions.

To enhance the organization of SIA powertrain conferences, the organizing committee has undertaken changes since last year by proposing an annual powertrain conference each spring, focusing alternatively on spark ignition in Versailles and on compression ignition in Rouen. The first edition of the conference in Versailles in May of this year was a great success with more than 400 participants, 50 lectures and 30 exhibitors offering numerous networking opportunities.

In addition to the previous conference topics on light-duty engine techno-logies, the SIA POWERTRAIN - ROUEN 2016 conference will include new themes on engines for on- and offhighway commercial vehicles that will be addressed in a new specific session.

This unique worldwide event focused on compression ignition engine technology, and potential development synergies between passenger cars and commercial vehicle powertrain technologies, will provide attendees with opportunities for discussions with experts and leaders in this area. This event will cover global issues and solutions related to technology, business processes and the challenges facing the industry today and tomorrow.

We look forward to seeing you in Rouen either as a conference speaker, exhibitor or attendee.

Yours sincerely,

Conference ChairDr Noureddine GUERRASSI, Chief Engineer Advanced Injection & Combustion Engineering Delphi Automotive

CERTAM activity gathers advisory and expertise as well as en-gine testing (for light and heavy duty applications) in our dyna-mic test cells or on industrial site in the fields of:

• Metrology of fuel consumption and CO2 emission on dynamic conditions (nEDC, WlTC,…).

• Engine emission characterization (regulated and unregulated).• Exhaust post-treatment assessment (DpF, SCR, nOx trapping,…).• Fuel/Air mixture preparation and internal aerodynamic by laser

metrology.• Standard metrology (T, p, blow-by, stability,…).• Friction.• Metrology of particle (SMpS, ElpI, TEOM, pCS 2010…) and Air

quality.• Toxicological pollutant emission assessment.• prototypes testing.

Cléon works for the Renault-nissan Alliance and has 35 customer sites worldwide. A total 46% of its output is for Renault, and 54% for other brands (Renault Samsung Motors, Dacia, nissan, Infiniti, Suzuki and Opel).

The site’s activity is based on five engine families, including the F4 petrol and V9X andR9M diesel, sold under the market name Energy dCi 130, and two gearbox families (J and p). In 2011, the site manufactured 1.3 million of these products.

From 2013, the plant will start producing electric motors.

The French Society of Automotive Engineers and the congress Organi-sing Committee wish to offer the opportunity to all motivated students to display their work – final year projects, for example – on posters which will be displayed at the Congress exhibition area. • free access will be permitted to all the applicant students on 2 June

(from 08:30 to 15:45, including access to conference and exhibition) • a jury of powertrain experts will proceed to an evaluation of the pos-

ters from 10:00 to 11:00• an award ceremony will be organized for the winning student(s) at

13:00 in the main conference room• a trophy and a prize will be offered

Exhibiting companies will welcome you to their booths to discuss auto-motive industry’s career opportunities and your expectations. You will have the opportunity to meet powertrain experts and company leaders who will tell you what skills are involved to do their jobs. Your resume will be sent to our partner companies, before the Students Forum, where some of them are looking for interns and young engineers.

If you want to participate to the entire congress, we invite you to become a member of the SIA (www.sia.fr/adhesion). Ricardo ADEPT concept combines low-cost 48V mild-hybrid technologies to reduce 1.5l Diesel C-segment class-leading CO2 emissions by a further 15-20%, showing the path to 70g/km CO2.48V technologies include 12.5kW belt starter gene-rator, low-cost advanced lead-carbon battery pack, electric ancillaries and electric turbine-generator for exhaust heat recovery.

DElPhI automated driving demonstration vehicle: In 2015, Delphi successfully completed the longest automated drive in north America, with a 5,500 km coast-to-coast trip from San Francisco to new York, 99 percent in automated mode. With the acquisition of Ottomatika, a Carnegie Mellon start-up, which provides algorithms for automated driving, Delphi has furthered its leadership in this area. Delphi equipped an Audi SQ5 with radar, vision and camera sensors to evaluate levels of automation in order to provide customers with modular, scalable and cus-tomizable solutions.

ThE DElPhI 48-vOlT demo car combines a 1.6 l diesel engine with an electrical supercharger and 48V mild hybrid components to deliver both fuel consumption and performance benefits. The 48V belt-driven starter generator (12 kW) incorporates start-stop and regenerative braking energy recovery expected to deliver 10 percent CO2 reduction. The e-charger, used as a second compression stage, com-pensates for the turbo-lag inherent to mechanical turbo-compressors. This enables substantial vehi-cle transient response and nOx emissions control benefits. Delphi technologies fitted in the vehicle include power electronics components, powertrain control, 48V power-distribution, wiring harnesses and connectors.

v-MOTECh has set-up a specific competence cluster dedicated in exhaust measurement and analysis to perform RDE lDV tests. V-Motech’s technical skills completes the pEMS technology which allows the concentration measurement of five gases while ad-ding and Exhaust Flow Meter (pitot tube device) and an ODb system to obtain the vehicle diagnostics.

vAlEOThe AVl 48V Diesel mild hybrid democar comprises Valeo’s electric supercharger and belt-driven starter-generator, coupled to a lead-acid battery. The system al-lows a 20% power increase and a 15% CO2 emissions reduction.

Wonder why our diesel common rail system is so popular?

Delphi’s light duty Diesel common rail system has many attractive features to help manufacturers meet Euro 6c emissions standards and beyond. State-of-the-art injectors deliver a highly atomized spray, injected in small quantities, with minimal separation. A new generation pump provides pressures of 2,200 bar, with the capability of 2,500. And, it’s elegantly packaged. No wonder it’s so popular.
