3. In context; Broad-based perspective of NCDs prevention - considering through the life course; from fetus to old age - microscopic to macroscopic environments; interactions between early and later factors through out the life course
4. Nutrient intake goals6. Strategic directions and recommendations for policy and
research

Principles for the promotion of healthy diets and physical activity
- comprehensive and address all major dietary and physical activity risks from multi-sectoral perspective- optimal mix of actions that are in accord with national capabilities, laws and economic realities- have a central steering role in developing strategies to ensure that actions are implemented and monitoring their impact over the long term- Ministry of Health have a crucial convening role-bringing together other ministries- multi-sectoral working group; government needs to work together with the private sector, health professional bodies, consumer groups, academics, the research community and other nongovernmental bodies- a life-course perspective on NCDs prevention and control is critical (from fetus to old age)- strategy should explicitly address equality and diminish disparities e.g. poorest communities or population groups - draw substantially on existing international standards that provide a reference in international trade (e.g. marketing of unhealthy food across national boundaries)

and related disease burden• Enabling people to make informed choices and
take effective action e.g. nutrition labeling • Making the best use of standards and
legislation • Ensuring that healthy diet components are
available to all• Achieving success through intersectoral
