State IntroductionGujarat is located on the western coast of the Indian Peninsula and it is one of the most industrialized states in the country. The state shares its borders with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and the Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The Arabian Sea borders the state both to the west and the south-west. The state has a coast line of 1600 Km with many natural harbors and home to large ports like Kandla and Mundra (the largest private port in India) and is well connected to the rest of country.

Why Gujarat

Gujarat accounts for the largest share in the total investments in the food processing sector of India. Gujarat is keen to promote the agro-processing industry. In the budget of 2017-18 for the state of Gujarat, an outlay of USD 993 million was allocated for the Agriculture and Co-

Raw material base (1/3)

Gujarat has eight agro-climatic zones10 beneficial for cultivation of a multitude of crops, vegetables and fruits round the year. Based on soil characterization, rainfall and temperature, eight agro climatic zones in Gujarat have been identified as under:

Major agricultural produce of the state includes cotton, groundnut (peanuts), dates, and sugar cane, milk and milk products. Gujarat is the dominant producer of tobacco, cotton, and groundnuts in India. Other major crops produced in state are rice, wheat, sorghum (jowar), pearl millet (bajra), maize, pigeon pea (tur dal) and gram.

Gujarat is one of the highly developed states in the country and its agricultural strength lies in its diversity of climate, strong marketing infrastructure, enterprising farmer base and, 1600 km coastal belt. The state has more than 50% of the land under net cultivable area.

In the current times, the state’s agriculture economy has witnessed a shift towards high value crops like cotton, groundnuts, fruits and vegetables and condiments and spices from low value cereals and other crops. Gujarat is the leading producer of groundnut in the country and third largest producer of milk. Gujarat also has a strong fisheries sector, the state has is one of the top in marine fish production export of fisheries has increased from USD 175 million in

2007-08 to USD 560 million in 2014-15, a CAGR of 18% ; it contributes 23.35% in the Nation‘s overall value added marine products exports.

Food Processing Units: More than 30,000 food processing units areoperating in Gujarat providing employment to over 1 million people.

This integrated system will also help in efficiently handling the grains by international standards and assist in amplifying the export potential

The project envisages setting up of bio-pesticides unit

based on Neem and Tobacco natural raw materials

which are easily available in Gujarat. The proposed unit

shall have the facilities right from extraction of

respective oils to the formulation of the bio-pesticide

based on these oils

Setting up a Medical Herbs Extraction Unit

The project envisages setting up of Medicinal Herbs

Extraction Unit based on the raw material strength of

Gujarat. The manufacturing unit can focus on

production, processing, marketing, exports, etc.

Establishment of manufacturing unit for Instant Vegetables in Retort Pouches

Vegetables The proposed project envisions setting up of a

manufacturing unit for instant vegetables in retort

pouches in Gujarat.

These pouches are primarily used to pack Ready to Eat

(RTE) foods, providing longer shelf life and preservation

at room temperature without the aid of refrigeration

Establishment of Castor Derivatives Base Perfumery Raw Materials Unit

Castor seeds The project envisages setting up of a Castor oil

derivatives unit to manufacture perfumery raw

materials. Castor is abundantly produced in Gujarat

thereby making it an attractive proposition

Setting up a Banana Fibre Extraction and Textiles Production Unit

Banana The project envisages setting up of Banana Fibre

Extraction and Textiles Production Unit based on the

raw material strength of Gujarat. The manufacturing

unit can focus on production, processing, marketing,

exports, etc.

Establishment of Freeze Dried Fruit Processing Unit

Fruits The project envisages setting up of Biodegradable

Packaging for Food Products Manufacturing Unit based

on the raw material strength of Gujarat. The

manufacturing unit can focus on production,

processing, marketing, exports, etc.

Establishment of Cattle Feed Manufacturing and Processing Unit

The project aims to establish a manufacturing and

processing unit for Cattle Feed in Gujarat. Given

abundance in terms of dairy processing unit in Gujarat

there is high demand for the quality product

Development of Fishing Harbours

Project envisages Development of Government fish

farms on PPP mode based on the raw material strength

of Gujarat such as marine fishing and inland freshwater

shrimp farming

products under strict hygienic condition so that the

process will be automated and carried out in a vacuum

The project aims at establishing pearl culture given the

high potential of raw material availability and local

market demand

Development of Seaweed Culture

Seaweed The project aims at establishing seaweed culture given

the high potential of raw material availability and

demand in fertilizer and pharmaceutical market

Development of Shrimp Aqua Culture

Shrimp The project aims at establishing Shrimp Aqua Culture

given the high potential of production, raw material

availability and demand in food market. Shrimps are

called the "Pinkish Gold" of the sea because of its

universal appeal, unique taste, high unit value and

increasing demand in the world market
