About the programmeWe hope to see you at Gyldendalhuset for an informative and social gathering with fellow English teachers from across the country. An update on Fagfornyelsen, practical tips for teaching intercultural competence, best practice on assessment and writing tips are what we hope you will take away with you.

Intercultural competence – what, why and how? v/ Magne DypedahlIntercultural competence has become a central aspect of Norwegian and European language policies. However, the term is interpreted in many different ways. In this session, Magne Dypedahl will address how intercultural competence can be understood in light of recent European language policies and how teachers of English can add a consistent intercultural dimension to their teaching. He will also present concrete examples of how intercultural learning can be integrated in the teaching of English through other aspects of the English subject, such as linguistics, literature and area studies.

HARALD EIAHarald Eia is a well-known sociologist, comedian, writer and actor. Lately, we have heard him on the radio on P2 with Sånn er du and seen him on TV Norge’s Brille. He has also taken an interest in textbooks and teaching and has given many talks on the art of writing simply and well, inspired by Steven Pinker’s The Sense of Style.

MAGNE DYPEDAHLMagne Dypedahl is Senior Lecturer of English at the University of South-Eastern Norway. In addition to co-authoring books on a variety of topics, including Veien til interkulturell kompetanse, he has co-edited several anthologies on language learning. He has also worked as a cultural trainer for a number of companies and organizations, such as Texas Instruments and Red Cross.

ELLEN-CATHRINE KASPERSEN-STABELLEllen-Cathrine is a member of Udir’s curriculum group for English. She is an experienced English teacher, teaching both YF and SF students at Vestby vgs, in addition to the programme subject Communication and Culture. She also played a role in initiating the FYR project.
