The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University is irrevocably committed to giving the institution the best academic ambience that would enable it serve the society well through its mandate of teaching and research.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, FAS, stresses on this and continues to work in that direction in the course of his superintending services to the institution.

At the Retreat organized for the University’s Principal Officers, Directors and Deans to quietly and soberly mark his successful second year in office, the Vice-Chancellor elaborately emphasized on this and passionately enjoined the senior officers taking part in the forum not

to allow anything to compromise the resolve to pursue that target. Prof. Ahaneku, who restated his belief in leadership as a collective responsibility, implored the participants, whom he called “co-managers” of the system, to champion the course of the University’s pursuit of excellence at their various levels and areas of management responsibility.

He thanked them for their efforts in line with the institution’s principles, objectives and aspiration as the “University of All Times”, pledging to ensure that the Management encourages and becomes a part of any good programme targeted at pushing the University’s frontiers forward.

The beautiful performance of UNIZIK Nursery and Primary School Musical Band at events and ceremonies has attracted the good word and commendation of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Charles Esimone. The wonderful ensemble, made up of the little pupils of the school, who conduct, do the vocals and play the instruments themselves, earned the DVC’s praise during the Grand Finale of the 2016 UNIZIK Staff Games and Recreation, held in the Main Campus in Awka.

Prof. Esimone, who was visibly overwhelmed by the performance of the little children, said that the band is not only catching them young but is also making enormous contribution to the reputation of the school and the University at large.

He pointed out that the musical group comprised of budding performers and potential show business experts of diverse

entertainment genre. He appealed to the parents, teachers and all stake holders in the development and wellbeing of the children, to give them the right encouragement.

The DVC (Academic) counseled the children to continue to explore their talents thanking the school for the efforts it is making to expose its pupils to wide developmental opportunities.

The newly elected executive members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) UNIZIK branch, in the company of the Electoral Board Chairman, Arc. Osita Paul Okafor were at the Office of the Vice-

Chancellor, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku FAS recently to present the association’s newly elected officers to him.

Welcoming them, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ahaneku appreciated the Electoral

Board for conducting a free and fair election. He also congratulated the new officers, who according to him, have been entrusted with the responsibilities of directing the affairs of the association for the next four years.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated his concern on the welfare of staff and solicited the support of SSANU towards achieving that. He urged the new executive to discharge their responsibilities properly; he also emphasized on dedication and commitment as essential ingredients in effective service delivery.

The Vice-Chancellor also pointed out that the University Management has always enjoyed cordial relations with all the past administrations and expressed hope that the new executive members will follow the stead. He also advised them to place themselves in

servant position as they owe allegiance to the welfare of every member of the Union and to the entire University Community.

In her speech, the newly elected Chairperson, Mrs. Njideka Nwangwu commended the Vice-Chancellor for his support to the association describing him as a father and a labour friendly Chief Executive. She also promised to lift SSANU UNIZIK branch high both in quality, discipline and output.

She said her mission is to create a viable Union that will not only achieve improvement in the welfare of members but will be a major player in the overall progress of the University. She also prayed for continuous support from the University Management and all SSANU members.
