Square Enix hopes to rectify many of the issues that fans had with Final Fantasy XIII by releasing this: the direct sequel to

that game, entitled Final Fantasy XIII-2. Set three years after the events of its forebear, FF XIII-2 tells a story in which Lighting (FF XIII’s protagonist) has disappeared in a mysterious, unknown world. Serah Farron, Lightning’s younger sister (and returning character from the previous game), joins forces with a young boy named Noel Kreiss in an attempt to find Lightning. Noel and Serah are your main playable characters for this eagerly anticipated game.

Bold claims have been made about this sequel, with Square Enix promising that it “exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect.” We’ll let you discover the intricate plot for yourself – here we’ll just be talking about gameplay features. The combat system has been improved and tweaked. It’ll still be a combination of the Active Time Battle (ATB) system and the Paradigm Shift system, but will apparently address many of the issues that players had with it. Certain battles add something called “Cinematic Action,” which essentially boils down to mid-battle quick-time events that allow you to deal massive amounts of damage to enemies and gain the upper hand.

Monsters can be tamed and used by players as party members. This ties in to the new “Feral Link” feature: each time you attack an enemy while a tamed monster is in your party, the Feral Link bar fills up and, when full, your new pet can unleash a special attack powered by a quick-time event.

Monsters no longer roam the map the way they did in FF XII and FF XIII. Now, they randomly appear within your sight when you get close. Once they’ve appeared, a timer called the “Mog Clock” will appear onscreen, and the time it takes you to enter the battle will determine various bonuses or penalties you receive when the fight begins.

Conversations with non-player characters feature branching dialogue trees, allowing you to choose your responses and interactions similar to how western RPGs handle it. The game will have multiple endings, but your conversational choices do not affect which ending you’ll get. Puzzle elements called “Temporal Rifts” will require that players solve puzzles in a void between dimensions. Solve the puzzle and you’ll correct a paradox occurring in the real world. The new “Historia Crux” system allows players to travel through time, from hundreds of years in the future to hundreds of years in the past. It adds an air of non-linearity to the title, and your time travel choices will affect the outcome of the story.enthralling maps and new characters.

Described as a marriage of God of War and The Elder Scrolls

IV: Oblivion, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning promises to be an RPG built specifically for those who love the genre. The large-scale open world will be open for your eager exploration.

Combat is driven by combos, and the game features a unique “Destiny” system that allows you to mix and match your character using abilities derived from the three main class archetypes often seen in RPGs: warrior, rogue and mage. Might (warrior) improves your melee prowess, Finesse (rogue) augments ranged combat, and Sorcery (mage) intensifies your magical powers. You assign points to each of these attributes as you go, allowing you to tailor your character to suit your tastes and offering a range of possibilities. Various factors affect the way your abilities are used: holding down the button to unleash a magical ability will have a different effect than simply tapping that button would, for example, and even the distance between you and your foes will alter the way abilities are used. There’ll be an extensive array of skills to learn, areas to explore and adventuring to be done when this game hits store shelves.

EA Canada has been hard at work gathering satellite imagery, geotag

points and buckets of data from NASA in order to recreate the mountain ranges found in SSX. Nine real-world mountains were mapped to produce twenty-seven ranges for you to explore. The drops will be more open this time around so you’re free to explore alternate paths. Some are vast and as such require the use of helicopters and wingsuits to traverse.

EA is placing an emphasis on social interaction and have developed

something called “Rider Net” that will be completely integrated into the game. Think of it as something akin to the Autolog feature in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. This in-game social network will be your gateway to online events and friends. There will be no lobbies in SSX but rather persistent global events and races for you to join at will to compete in. Furthermore you’ll be able to “Like” your favourite drops, challenge friends’ times and even try to beat their ghosts on a particular speed-run. Beating friends will net you cash for upgrades and unlocks.

Grand Slam Tennis 2 migrates to Xbox 360 and Ps3 and now boasts

a new, more realistic visual style, the game features all four Grand Slam championships: the Australian Open, the French Open, the US Open and Wimbledon. The new Total Racquet Control system allows you to accurately control every shot using the right analogue stick, controlling the nature of the shot with great precision.

The ESPN Grand Slam Classics featured in the game will let you relive some of the greatest moments in tennis history. Borg vs. McEnroe, Nadal vs. Federer and more will be unlocked as you play. The career mode promises a rich experience for fans of the sport, while online play is sure to scratch that competitive itch. The roster of tennis stars on offer is made up of both current and past ATP and WTA greats. TTHQ’s third entry into the UFC franchise; UFC Undisputed 3 looks

set to add a bunch of new features for fans of the series. Those returning to pulverise their opponents can look forward to the series’ classic elements, with a few updates and tweaks to make the whole experience more streamlined.

The biggest addition is the new Pride Mode. This new mode will bring a set of new fighters and rules to the already wildly popular mixed martial arts game. Of course the most noticeable addition when it comes to the new Pride rules is how there are practically no rules.

Additional new game features include a Simulation Setting. With this setting enabled your punches and kicks will be more powerful, but at the expense of using a lot more stamina. This setting is for those of you who want to get as close to the UFC experience as possible.

At the request of fans, the developers have added entrances for fighters (the Pride Mode entrances will be a little more flamboyant). Further requested (and delivered) tweaks include a 2D body representation onscreen during fights, Feint attacks and easier extraction from standin clinch es.

INVERSION is a third-person co-op shooter that combines hard-hitting,

adrenaline-pumping action with a revolutionary gravity manipulation engine.

Set in the near future, the tranquil peace enjoyed by mankind shatters with an unforeseen invasion by an unknown enemy called the Lutadore. Armed to the teeth with futuristic gravity-controlling weapons, the Lutadore easily overrun the city’s defenses. Unbeknownst to all, mysterious anomalies have surfaced in conjunction with the invasion. Random regions in the city have entered zero gravity or have suffered vector changes, throwing the world into topsy-turvy chaos. Assuming the role of Davis Russel, a hotheaded 28-year-old cop, or Leo Delgado, Davis’ neighbor, players will embark on a journey through the war ravaged gravity twisted disorienting streets of their home town and beyond, to find Davis’ missing child.

In inversions Gravity is your weapon thanks to a gun known as the “Gravlink”. Think Half-Life 2’s Gravity Gun on steroids. You’ll be able to lob objects at your enemies, but you’ll also be able to pop enemies out from behind cover with low gravity shots. Alternatively, using high gravity shots will cause enemies to become pinned to the spot. Conduits will shift gravity vectors of entire levels, so while you might be fighting on the ceiling, a separate wave of enemies could approach on the floor.

Fans of the first game and the Top Cow comic will be at home with The

Darkness II, but for newcomers to the franchise, you play a character by the name of Jackie Estacado who has the ability to control a power known as The Darkness. This power manifests itself in various ways, but in The Darkness II you’ll mainly get to use it as two shadowy, malevolent snake-like arms. These arms can be used to attack or grab enemies, or pick up objects from the environment to use as projectiles or shields. Coupled with Jackie’s ability to dual-wield guns, this gives you something dubbed “Quad-Wielding”. You’ll be able to perform a bunch of different execution moves on captured enemies, including ripping their spinal cords out through their butts. Ouch.

Because Jackie’s powers rely on him to stay concealed in shadows, you can look forward to lots of gameplay hinging on light and dark mechanics. Enemies will attack you with spotlights, torches and more so it’ll be up to you to stick the shadows or destroy enemies’ light sources.

The final chapter in Commander Shepard’s trilogy, Mass Effect 3 sees the sentient

spaceships known as Reapers invading Earth to obliterate mankind. As Shepard it’s up to you to assemble a team and lead a galaxy-wide assault against the Reaper threat. Expect returning squad mates, character importing from the previous two games, and Kinect integration for those on Xbox 360. The game will launch on all platforms at once, so good news for PS3 owners.

The next gritty tale in the life of beleaguered anti-hero Max Payne

takes place eight years after the events of Max Payne 2 and will hopefully offer more of the same excellent third-person shooter action that fans love. He’s no longer a cop and has left New York, opting to head for São Paulo, Brazil, where he gets into the private security industry, tasked with protecting influential people from those who would see them gone from this world. There are numerous changes to the gameplay, such as the ability to dual wield different weapon types (an uzi in one hand and a pistol in the other, for example), and multiplayer makes its debut in this third title.

The second chapter in the StarCraft II trilogy focuses on the Zerg

faction for its single-player campaign, with Sarah Kerrigan (aka the Queen of Blades) serving as the game’s protagonist. The plot picks up where Wings of Liberty left off as Kerrigan attempts to reunite the splintered Zerg faction to further her own interests, introducing new gameplay mechanics along the way and continuing StarCraft II’s epic narrative. Expect new units (eight of which have been confirmed, together with alterations of existing units) and new gameplay, both in the single-player portion and in the game’s brilliantly crafted and massively popular multiplayer component.

anticipated game in years is nearly here. With Blizzard remaining silent on a concrete release date, we only have “early 2012” to go on. Luckily for Diablo fans that’s practically around the corner. With five classes to choose from (Barbarian, Witchdoctor, Demon Hunter, Wizard and Monk) and the option to play a male or female character, Diablo III offers practically infinite replayability. The skills system has seen a complete overhaul; this coupled with health drops, scripted environmental events and a brand new online suite means Diablo junkies have a ton of new stuff to look forward to.

Set not too far into the future, a nationalist Russian movement has

taken control of Russia and moved to attack neighbouring countries. You’ll be in control of a squad of Ghosts sent behind enemy lines to stop this threat to global stability.

The game will feature a mixture of third and first person

perspectives, and you’ll be able to thoroughly customise your weapons. Owing to its future setting you’ll get access to all sorts of toys that don’t exactly exist yet, like optic camouflage to turn your squad invisible. For those on Xbox 360, the game will feature Kinect support but won’t be a requirement.

upcoming title will be a reboot of sorts. Set in more than thirty-five locations from all over the world (including London, Rio De Janeiro, Amsterdam and more) this next FIFA Street looks to be the most authentic street experience ever created. With an emphasis on style, flair and free-flow movement, the game makes use of the same engine powering FIFA 12 including the Player Impact Engine. The game will feature more than fifty skill moves as well as aerial manoeuvres to slip past defenders. EA Sports Football Club will be fully integrated into the title.

The classic, beloved Syndicate series is being rebooted, but not as a tactical

strategy title - instead, it’s an action-packed first-person shooter. The year is 2069, and the world, now governed by mega-corporations known as syndicates, is a very different place. Business has become war, and on the front line of this war are each syndicate’s agents. You take on the role of a prototype agent for EuroCorp named Miles Kilo.

With promises of explosive action and thoughtful, rich gameplay set in a clean sci-fi world, Syndicate might not be exactly what fans of the series were hoping for - but it sure looks fantastic in its own way.

Kinect Star Wars will allow you to live out the Jedi Knight fantasy

thanks to Microsoft’s motion-sensing peripheral. You take on the role of a young Jedi and play a part in the events set between Episode II and Episode III of the Star Wars prequels. Using voice-commands to activate your lightsaber and hand motions to attack with it, you’ll have to slice your way through waves of droid and Sith enemies. Force powers will be possible and feel more immersive thanks to hand gestures through Kinect. Expect multiple locations from all six of the films, and even a lightsabre duel against Darth Vader himself.
