gallery displaying works by local and international artists. A new

exhibit is displayed each month with an opening reception on

the Third Thursday Gallery Walk. Most art works are available for

purchase. Artists’ receptions take place from 6 to 9 p.m. and offer

complimentary beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment.

Each event is free to the public.

Upcoming exhibit:Sept. 17 – Oct. 9: A Dresses Show by Donna Dowless

and friends

Known as the heart artist because of her many love-themed and

heart paintings, Donna Dowless’ exhibit will feature a variety

Noon – 5 p.m. Tues – Fri.; 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sat.

The Creative Spirit Gallery is a cooperative art gallery and home

to members of the Artist League of Orange County (ALOC) who

collaborate to bring featured artists alongside members’ art work.

Located in the Baldwin Park area, the Creative Spirit Gallery

shares space with the Harwood Watson Dance Studio. Monthly

opening receptions take place on the second Friday of each

month for presenting local artists, as well as member artists, with

a variety of artwork for sale.

Upcoming exhibit:Sept. 11 – Oct. 2: Interpretations

Jason Lee, Clair Strutt, and Chad Pollpeter, three Central Florida

artists who interpret the world in different ways, show all new

works at this exhibit, which marks the first time the three artists

have worked together. Pollpeter combines figure studies and

symbolic elements to express universality. Lee’s autodidactic

approach to art blends a universal spirituality with a surrealist’s

eye for the human figure. Strutt’s landscape and figurative work

has a strong emotional basis, while retaining a sense of humor

about herself and her world. “Pay Attention,” a nude wearing

a lampshade being ignored by her husband, is an example of

Strutt’s lighthearted approach to life.

But once the 16-year-old Isleworth

resident begins discussing the

implications of temperature-induced

structural and functional changes in

human-secreted phospholipase A2,

most are easily convinced she is.

While many teens her age cringe

at the thought of sitting through

a biology class, the aspiring

neurosurgeon is thrilled to spend her

free time in a research lab.

The daughter of Isleworth residents

Ed and Amy Leasure, Audrey is one

of 1,500 students from more than 50

countries who competed in this year’s

International Science Fair held in

Reno, Nevada in May.

She earned a place in the global

science competition by taking first

at both the county science fair and

Orlando Science Challenge and

claiming a third-place spot at the

state-level science competition.

Science is almost second nature for

Leasure, a member of Lake Highland

Preparatory School’s Aspire program,

an accelerated curriculum for students

excelling in math and science.

“Working in a research lab three days

a week is not typically something

kids my age think is fun, but I would

not give it up for anything,” Audrey

said. “Competing in science fairs

throughout the country has presented

so many opportunities to learn, travel,

and make new friends from all over

the world. Knowing that my research

can make a difference in the world

sure makes spending my Saturdays in

a lab worth it.”

The grandson of Isleworth residents

Karin and Vincent Dugan, Spencer is

a skilled double bassist, French horn

player and longtime pianist (he began

playing the piano in kindergarten).

The young musical virtuoso

expresses a deep admiration for

classical composer Beethoven and

keeps a strict daily practice routine.

A member of the Florida Symphony

Youth Orchestra, Spencer is one

of 225 talented student musicians

who are members of this local

training orchestra for budding

music students.

Spencer has a cadre of musical

accolades and achievements, too. He

earned superior ratings two years in

a row for his bass and French horn

performances and played with the

All-State Orchestra, All-County Band

and All-County Orchestra this year.

Ninety percent of students in the

Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra

advance to collegiate music

programs with illustrious reputations,

such as Juilliard School and Eastman

School of Music.

Spencer plans to pursue a career

outside of music, but said he’ll never

abandon his first passion.

“I hope to be an engineer, but I

always want to have music in my

life,” he said.

Isleworth Teens are Top Dogs

SHOULDERS—big, bold, and billowing—are fall’s answer to last year’s legs. And this seasons’ oversized, over-puffed shapes aren’t just a closet staple, rather a 1980s redux done right.

HOLD ONTO TO YOUR CLUTCHES LADIES, for this season’s sleek, sophisticated, daring, demure and effervescent looks are deliciously do-able with their fresh and fanciful approach. Whether embracing the sophisticated side of styling, the 1980s redux, evening glamour for day, or the bold, brash, bright primary color wheel, fall will have you waxing poetic on the array of sensibly chic new alternatives. From luxurious textures and materials to potent patterns with dramatic detailing, the collection of mini-trends, like one-shouldered bareness, exaggerated shapes, and distinctive one-off accessories, creates an attainable look so profound you’ll feel as though you’re stepping into Carrie Bradshaw’s memorable Manolo’s nearly every step of the way.

fall 2009 TREND REPORTprovided by THE MALL AT MILLENIA

What better way to update your wardrobe than with fall’s standout accessories? EYEWEAR is getting larger and heavier, as

oversized shapes and heavier materials

frame the face with finesse.

BCBG Silk Runway Dress

WHY STOP WITH ONE METAL when you can wear all three at once? Bright, dazzling rings are statement makers as unique, substantial and sublime designs set the standard when worn alone or with the tiniest of accompaniments. Cartier Trinity Ring

NEON BRIGHTS blaze a feverish trail down this seasons’ catwalks. For a more subdued take on the trend, try enhancing your everyday basics with details like colorful striping and embellishment.Lacoste Red! Long Sleeve V-Neck Sweater

CINCHED WAISTS are a must when accessorizing your skirts, tunics and peplum jackets this fall. In fact, pick one with a bohemian, free-spirit vibe to further accent the season’s most unanimous colors. Anthropologie New Outlook Belt

Just as COLOR can transform your wardrobe this season, so too, can it transform your handbag. Try a TEXTURED LEATHER or skin to up the proverbial ante, and pair it with rich, luxurious shades like chocolate, navy and charcoal.

Ferragamo Sunglasses

Furla Susanna Stamped Clutch

ONE-SHOULDERED DRESSES are de rigueur this fall, as illustrated by the fashionable Michelle Obama. Drawing attention to the face, neck and chest, the saucy slips of skin—a result of careful detailing—enhance the figure’s femininity.Michael Kors Dress

There is never a moment when the “LITTLE BLACK DRESS” doesn’t make a lick of sense. That is, it’s always in vogue. For this seasons’ silhouette try an edgier version, in textured velvet or satin.

Classics are always a plus when updating your wardrobe

and Louis Vuitton’s MONOGRAMMING service adds that extra special touch. Sport yours with the flaming reds and sultry chartreuses we’re seeing on the

catwalks this fall.

Burberry Ink Brocade Roll Hem Dress

Louis Vuitton Speedy Monogrammed Bag

As popular as gladiators were for spring, this season it’s all about the BOOT. Tall, short, chain-linked or buckled, black

boots—in rich napa leather and skins—will finish off just about any

ensemble with

powerful panache.

Gucci Dress and Boot

Audrey Leasure doesn’t look like your

typical scientist.

Thirteen-year-old

Spencer Haney demonstrates an

equally fervent

devotion to his craft.
