New Online Registration SystemWe would like to thank community members for their generosity during the 2020 holiday season. Donations for the Holiday Gift Angels program, home repair program and meal certificates for Meals on Wheels were much appreciated. We also thank Tam's Backstage for providing a drive-by, pick-up holiday meal to a group of our participants.

Senior Services Angels

At-Home Activities

Kitchen Angel This kitchen creation uses a dish towel, pot holder and ribbon to make a decorative companion. Trim with a sprig of berries and hang in your kitchen. Supplies and colors will vary. Sock SnowmanAs the cold days of winter are here, spend some time indoors creating these snowmen using socks, rubber bands, buttons and materials for a scarf. Use as a winter decoration or even a doorstop.Diary of Discovery Let us know what you are doing to keep active, engaged and busy at home. Submit a one-page write-up to [email protected] by January 31. We will choose a few selections for a profile in an upcoming newsletter.

Registration for ActivitiesRegistration is required to participate in all activities. Call our main line at (770) 781-2178 and choose the Hearthstone Lodge or Sexton Hall extension to register. Number of participants may be limited for each activity. If an activity is full, you may be placed on a waiting list to be contacted if a spot becomes available. Be sure to register at least two days in advance of a scheduled activity. See pages 9 - 11 for a schedule grid of activities. Use this grid to keep your activities schedule organized. • Circle or highlight activities you are interested in.• Check off activities you register for and when you receive the meeting invite/link.• If you do not receive your invite two business days before the activity, please give us a call.

Reflections on Growing OlderThursday, January 21, 7 p.m.Send an email to [email protected] to request registration information for this free virtual event.Discuss perspectives from the book, Dancing from the Inside Out, presented by author and educator, Dr. Westina Matthews. This book meaningfully reflects on growing older. A collaborative program with the UNG Institute for Healthy Aging, Center for Appalachian Studies and the Blue Ridge Campus.

New Online Registration SystemSpecial Training for New Online Registration SystemTuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, January 12, 13 or 14, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.Want to be able to register for classes and activities online? You got it! Coming in early 2021, we’re implementing a new internet-based system so you can easily register and pay for classes and activities from the comfort of your own home – no calling or stopping by a center needed. Be the first in the know and get all the details by joining an online training session in January. We’ll show you the system and walk you through how to find and register for classes. There’s no better way to try it than when all our programs are online and free!

February 2: Creating a Digital Home - Connect all the devices in your house with one easily controlled system. Ways to integrate your lights, thermostats, TVs and more through phone apps will be discussed.

Archeological Finds In North GeorgiaTuesday, January 26, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.Track Rock Gap is a 52-acre area of preserved petroglyphs of ancient Native American origin. In the Cohutta Mountains, several stone monuments and a ceremonial site were recently discovered opening up a new area of intrigue and exploration.

An internet connection and your favorite tech device (smartphone, laptop, tablet or desktop computer) can be used to enjoy a staff-led presentation. See and hear other participants to make this activity even more fun. Presentations will be given online through a user-friendly platform. Strength and ToneWednesdays, January 6 - February 10, 10 - 11 a.m. After a cardio warm-up, perform strength training exercises using your own body weight and chair assistance. Weights and household objects may be used as you combine the best of aerobics and weight-bearing activities. Instructor: Ranee Pattison

Weight Training Fridays, January 8 - February 12, 10 - 11 a.m.Learn exercises for large muscle groups while progressing through a series of reps, sets and rest times. 3 - 6 lb. weights are utilized, although modifications may be made with household objects. Instructor: Brian Blasick

Flex and Balance Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 5 - February 11, 10 - 11 a.m.After a warm-up with aerobic activity, dive into stability training with a focus on stretching and balancing all sides of the body. Increasing range of motion in your upper and lower body is a goal of this class. Instructor: Ranee Pattison
