2016

About UsGriffith Racing Team was established in 2013, we are a non-profit Formula Society of Automotive Engineers team (Hereafter Formula SAE-A) Formula SAE-A is a worldwide competition with over 500 universities competing. Students design, construct and race an internal combustion or electric open wheel race car of up to 600cc over the course of a year. The competition allows for students to develop their skills in design, management, manufacturing, communication, research and business operations in a real-world environment.

The Australasian competition, containing 30 cars from 28 universities, culminates in a 4-day eventhosted at Calder Park Raceway. The competition comprises of a variety of static and dynamic events where each team and their car are judged out of a possible score, with the maximum overall possible score being 1000 points. Detailed scrutineering of each car also has to be completed and passed before the car can compete in any dynamic events.

SponsorshipFormula SAE provides a means of increasing brand awareness amongst audiences of various age, gender and location. The event offers any sponsor the opportunity to be involved in an exciting and dynamic promotion of their company in a way that is not achievable through normal advertising mediums.

Becoming a sponsor will also connect your business with some of the Gold Coasts brightest and most talented students. Thus, by becoming a sponsor it will give your business the opportunity to interact with young motivated Engineering, Business and Information Technology student’s and to identify high-achieving prospective employees.

Furthermore, we can put you in touch with other university departments which includes Griffith University (which is a major sponsor of the 2018 Commonwealth games) and The Griffith University School of Engineering, as both often seek our feedback regarding which software and products we use, our feedback is then taken into consideration when the university is looking to innovate and expand its programs. Hence having you as a partner, we will promote your product or service.

In 2015 at the Formula SAE-A competition in Melbourne, Griffith Racing Team placed 14th overall out of 30 teams, which was far above our expectations. These 30 teams included teams from Universities around Australia, New Zealand and teams from America, Japan and India. For most first year teams it is challenging enough to simply build a car in time for the competition. Out of the first year teams that do make it, the majority of them are unable to complete the competition due to mechanical failure. However, our team and car performed exceptionally, beating universities who had beencompeting in the competition for many years. GRT competed in every event at the competition and achieved an amazing result of 6th in endurance setting the 3rd fastest lap time. This won the team many plaudits with officials, universities and industry professionals congratulating the team on such a successful first competition. Furthermore, the success of the team at that competition resulted in GRT having a world ranking of 142 out of 528.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to become one of Australia’s leading FormulaSAE teams. Our goals are to provide an opportunity for young engineers to increase their potential and allow them to inspire and innovate others.

Each year the team elects leaders that are required to hold themselves accountable for directing the team to achieve our mission, whilst maintain ing team values outlined in Our Mission Statement. Each leader is either a third or fourth-year student with past Formula SAE-A experience and high achievers in their majors.

2016-2017 Upcoming changes

Some of the new team members are only first-year students, which mean they are lacking the technical knowledge to develop a Formula SAE-A car. Hence, why in 2016 we have implemented a new partner system, which will partner up first-year students with the fourth year students to help accelerate knowledge transfer, this system is designed to help young first-year students to become better engineers. This year the team will also take steps to put more focus into branding, marketing, and business processes. Hence, we will be

launching a new website in August, and appoint a new marketing and sponsor manager. Furthermore, we will be making Griffith Racing Team appeal to a larger audience through targeted posts and content using Social Media.

Since February, the team has doubled in size, with more and more students taking interest each week. Hence, with more students, come more engineering talent, which has allowed us to push the boundaries in terms of technical design. In addition, the team has attracted a few business and marketing students who are helping to develop business processes for the team and are developing marketing strategies.
