There’s nothing better than pretty v intage garments for decorat ing

around the house – only they ’re not a lways that easy to f ind.

When my mother was young, a l l women used to wear s l ip dresses .

There was rea l ly no way around i t . The most expens ive ones were

s i lk and the cheaper vers ion were synthet ic . Here in Denmark you

can st i l l be lucky enough to f ind some of the n ice, o ld s l ip dresses

in secondhand stores . On the fo l lowing pages we’ l l show you

how to g ive these o ld s l ip dresses a new l i fe . They ’re a re lat ive ly

inexpens ive and easy way to br ing wonderfu l garments f rom days

gone by into your decor or into your wardrobe i f you’re the type

who loves the feminine v intage look. Look through your suppl ies

of lace, buttons, pear ls and r ibbons before you get started to

see what you have on hand. We’ve made severa l examples for

inspirat ion. You might have some di fferent th ings on hand but

they ’ l l work just f ine, too. The only l imit i s your imaginat ion. So

brush off your creat ive f la i r and get started.

Dress with flowersThe f i rst sty le that we made was or ig ina l ly a b i t longer but we

preferred a s l ight ly shorter dress as we intended to hang i t on an

o ld, French mirror. We found a pretty p iece of lace in our suppl ies

– a b i t wide but with a lovely pattern. We sewed i t onto the s l ip

dress around the bottom. We’re lucky to have R ikke, who’s very

good with a sewing machine, but don’t despair i f you’re not quite

there. These dresses are only for decorat ion so you can def in i te ly

hand-st i tch them. I f you p lan to wear them, you’ l l probably need

to use a sewing machine. The f lowers that we used for decorat ing

the dress were ones we a l ready had on hand. We added them

by hand, one at the center of the neck l ine and one on each s ide

at the bottom of the dress . A l l i t takes to create a beaut i fu l and

decorat ive p iece for your home is a b i t of t ime and imaginat ion.
