The essay contest is open to Middle School students in Harrisburg City Public School District. Two (2) winners will be selected to attend AstroCamp in Clover, Virginia from August 6 - 12, 2017. In addition, JeTSI will provide a $150 gas card to each winner to help with transportation costs. The Space Exploration Essay Contest begins Monday, April 3, 2017 and entries must be received by JeTSI on Friday, May 5, 2017. Contestants are asked to pick one of the following topics and submit a 300-400 word, typed essay along with the contest entry form to JeTSI's headquarters. JeTSI Space Exploration Essay Contest Topic Choices: 1) You are going on a trip to the International Space Station. Think about three (3) things you would take with you and tell why you would take these three (3) things. 2) You are an astronaut on a peaceful, exploratory mission to Planet J. As a representative from Earth, you are to present three (3) gifts from our planet. What gifts would you bring and tell why you would bring them. 3) You have the chance to be the first student astronaut to explore another planet of your choosing. Which planet would you visit? Why did you pick this planet and what special equipment would you need to bring for a visit?

JeTSI Space Exploration Essay Contest Rules:You must be enrolled as a Middle School student in Harrisonburg City Public School District and you must be between 8 and 14 years of age. The essay must be typed, 300-400 words and describe one of the theme topics. You may submit only one entry. It must include the essay and the completed contest entry form and parental permission, and be received by May 5, 2017 at JeTSI. No late entries will be considered and there will be no exceptions. You must submit your entry by mail to the following address:

In order to be eligible for the prize, you must be able to attend the AstroCamp from August 6-12, 2017, and arrange for travel to and from camp. If, for any reason, your child is not able to attend the camp then the prize is forfeited. This is not a cash prize. If the camp is cancelled by AstroCamp, for any reason, then there is no prize. This is not a cash prize. JeTSI Space Exploration Essay Contest Judging Criteria: 50 Points – How clearly is the theme presented? 25 Points – Grammar/Spelling – how well is the essay written with respect to sentence

structure, paragraph construction, and spelling? 25 Points – Style – does the essay show creativity and imagination? JeTSI Space Exploration Essay Contest Timeline: Monday, April 3, 2017 Contest begins Friday, May 5, 2017 Contest entries must be received by JeTSI Monday, May 15, 2017 Two (2) Contest winners will be notified Sunday, August 6, 2017 Drop off by parents - camp begins Saturday, August 12, 2017 Pick up by parents - camp ends

I understand that JeTSI will be paying AstroCamp directly to cover the full tuition fee (a retail value of $1,100.00) and that this is not a cash prize. I understand that if the camp is cancelled then there is no prize (tuition and gas card).

I understand that JeTSI is not arranging for or providing transportation to or from AstroCamp and that I

will be responsible for transporting my child to and from AstroCamp. However, JeTSI will provide the winner with a $150 gas card to assist with the cost of travel.

I unconditionally and irrevocably give JeTSI and its agents and contractors the right and permission to

use, copy, distribute, publish, broadcast, and display the essay that has been submitted; photographs and images of my child that I have provided or that JeTSI will create; my child’s likeness; my child’s name; my child’s school and grade level in advertising and promotional materials, and in any other medium or format for any purpose related to the JeTSI Space Exploration Essay Contest.

I acknowledge and understand that JeTSI is a separate entity from AstroCamp. AstroCamp’s only
