Day 1: Arrive Naples (Ft Myers airport) / Sanibel Island: Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge

After a late-morning/early afternoon arrival into Ft Myers,

transfer to your Naples hotel before heading to lovely Sanibel Island and the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge for a sunset cruise and a festive welcome dinner.

Day 2: Naples: Naples Botanical Garden / Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

Head out this morning to the newly-redesigned Naples Botanical Garden,

where you will get a behind-the-scenes look at a gopher tortoise colony and learn about native and invasive species, orchids, and ethnobotany. After a picnic lunch and free time in the gardens, drive to the legendary Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, known for the alligators, wood storks, and other indig-enous species that inhabit this soaring old-growth cypress forest.

Day 3: Everglades National Park: Anhinga Trail / Winery Tour

This morning drive to the eastern Ever-glades for a leisurely exploration of the

famous Anhinga Trail. An astonishing number of species may be seen in this area during the dry season, when the water level recedes elsewhere in the park. In the early afternoon, head to Schnebly Redland’s Winery for lunch and a tour of the lovely facilities, where award-winning wines are pro-duced from such diverse produce as kiwi, star fruit, and avocados.

Day 4: Rookery Bay: Calusa Archaeology & Mangrove Kayaking

This morning, meet up with a local archaeologist to investigate a

well-preserved Calusa Indian shell-mound site, and learn more about this culturally complex hunting-fishing-gathering society. After lunch,

The Everglades“There are no other Everglades in the world. They are, as they have always

been, one of the unique regions of the earth, remote, never wholly known. Nothing anywhere else is like them: their vast glittering openness, wider than the enormous visible round of the horizon, the racing free saltness and sweetness of their massive winds, under the dazzling blue heights of space.”-- From Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, River of Grass

Your Leader & Guide

D oug received both his B.S. and M.S. in

Biology at Central Michigan University, his degrees focused on ecology, animal behavior, and conservation biology. While working on his graduate degree, Doug spent nearly 3 months of each year on a Na-ture Conservancy preserve observing migra-tory behavior and habitat use of long distance migrants in Michigan’s wild Upper Peninsula. Graduate school offered the opportunity to work as a teaching and research assistant, where he discovered the joy of leading others into the field to share different aspects of the natural world. Alaska and all her rugged beauty beckoned Doug since childhood. In 1999 he packed up his truck and his trusty Siberian husky “Koda”

and drove north to Alaska. Landing in the small town of Talkeetna he found the people and surroundings to be a perfect match. He has been working as a naturalist in Denali National Park since 1999. Doug considers Kantishna and Denali National Park his summer home. Recent opportunities to lead trips for Orbridge to South Florida’s Everglades, and The Gala-pagos Islands, Ecuador have brought Doug to places on the globe he had always dreamed about. Being able to step in Darwin’s footprints of history on the shores of the Galapagos Islands, or ply the diverse ecosystems of South Florida is a naturalists dream come true. In re-cent years Doug has also worked as a naturalist in both Baja, Mexico and in Southeast Alaska. Only time will tell where he’ll end up next.

Orbridge reserves the right to decline to accept anyone that it considers unsuitable due to fitness level. Orbridge

also reserves the right to remove from the program, at the participant’s own expense, anyone whose condition is such that it could create a hazard to himself or herself or others, or otherwise impact the enjoyment of other passengers on the program. State Department’s travel website at http://www.travel.state.gov or contacting the U.S. State Department directly. j. Baggage Program rates include the handling of two pieces of baggage per person during the land or cruise program. Weight restrictions on some routes on internal air flights may apply. Check with Orbridge with any questions, but it remains your responsibility to verify that you have all the appropriate travel documents for your nationality and sufficient blank pages in your passport for visas and immigration stamps. Orbridge is not liable for any expenses or costs arising from a traveler being prohibited from entering a country scheduled to be visited on a program or from being prohibited reentry into the United States.

n. ResponsibilitiesNeither Orbridge (or any sponsoring organization), nor any of its respective em-ployees, members, managers, shareholders, officers or directors (collectively, the “Orbridge Group”) own or operate any entity which does or will provide goods or services for your program. Orbridge Group purchases transportation, hotel and other lodging accommodations, restaurant, ground handling and other services from vari-ous independent suppliers, all of whom are independent contractors. The Orbridge Group shall not be liable for any injury, expenses or costs arising from any services, or lack thereof, provided by any independent supplier or other third party, nor the standards of care which you experience when using those services. In addition and without limitation, the Orbridge Group shall not be liable for any injury, loss, death, inconvenience, delay or damage to personal property in connection with the provi-sion of any goods or services, including without limitation those whether resulting from acts of God or force majeure, illness, disease, acts of war, civil unrest, insurrec-tion or revolt, animals, strikes or other labor activities, criminal or terrorist activities of any kind, overbooking or downgrading of services, food poisoning, mechanical or other failure of aircraft, vessels or other means of transportation or for failure of any means of transportation to arrive or depart on time. Dates, program details and costs, although given in good faith and based on tariffs, exchange rates and other information current at the time of printing, are subject to change at or before the time of departure. While we do not anticipate material revisions of the itinerary or its included features, we do reserve the right to substitute accommodations or modes of transportation and to make any changes in the itinerary where deemed necessary, and in that case any additional expenses will be paid by the individual guest. Where applicable, in no event shall the aggregate liability of the Orbridge Group (whether in contract, warranty, tort (including but not limited to negligence), product liability, strict liability or other theory) arising out of or relating to the use of services exceed the amount you actually paid Orbridge for the program or tour out of which the claim arose. Your baggage and personal effects are your sole responsibility at all times. There are many inherent risks in travel, which can lead to illness, injury, or even death. These risks are increased by the fact that some of the programs we book take place in remote locations, far from medical facilities. You assume all such risks associated with participating in this program.

Acceptance of Contract: ANY PAYMENT TO ORBRIDGE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DEPOSITS CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SET OUT HEREIN AND IN MORE SPECIFIC TOUR DOCUMENTS.
