Jorhat Engineering College, the premier institution of North East India and the second
Government Engineering College of Assam has completed its fifty years of relentless service to
the society. The College came into existence on 7th January, 1959 at H.R.H.P.O.W. Institute of
Engineering & Technology, Jorhat with the then Principal of the Institute, Sri H.N. Barua also as
the Principal in-charge of Jorhat Engineering College. The College started functioning with
admission of its first batch of students in Civil Engineering, on 10th October, 1960.
With a glorious journey, the College currently offers AICTE recognised B.E. courses in Civil,
Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science & Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering and
M.E. course in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The
College has been offering three-year post graduate course leading to Master of Computer
Application (M.C.A.) since 1987.

Production and Industrial Engineering is a specialized branch of Mechanical Engineering. Engineers specialized in
this branch have the knowledge of Supply Chain Management, Production Planning and Control, Operations
Research, Quality Control Principles and Techniques, Automation, Project Management, Precision Measurement and
Inspection, etc. and can use their knowledge and skills to understand and improve the existing system by efficient
forecasting, optimizing materials movement, efficient design and management of the supply chain, efficient planning
for materials requirements and inventory management, quality inspection and controlling and effective decisions
regarding automation, all of which are mainly concerned with cost reduction and providing valued products to its
customers; after all the modern trend of business is all about having delighted customers. They know the importance
of proper motivation and the course induces in them the skills for work force management and control.
