It’s time for our annual summer salad and

dessert potluck – come, visit, relax and enjoy

some great food. With the whirlwind of finishing

up quilts for the show, we could all use a night

of social interaction with those that share our

passion. Come early, if you please, and help set

up and get the potluck rolling. Besides our din-

ner, we are going to have a brief presentation by

Sherry Klepfer, who is the local chapter coordi-

nator for Linus Project in Iredell County.

Minutes from June’s Meeting

The June 27, 2017 meeting was called to order by President, Judy White-

head. There were 25 members and 3 guests attending the meeting.

Deb Waldron introduced the June program – Pineapple Fabrics from

Archdale, North Carolina. Pineapple Fabrics is a family owned company spe-

cializing in precut and packaged color sets using five fabrics. The presenters,

Dot and Beth, demonstrated the wide array of projects that can be made from

their packaged color sets. Their website is pineapplefabrics.com.

Following the June program, was Show and Tell and Secret Pal gifts.

The business meeting began with the Treasurer’s report. Dolores Forbare

said the Treasury balance is $10, 212.45. Donations for the soup kitchen were

still being collected.

Judy Whitehead showed the June block, Flags and Ships, and the June

accessory, an iPod pocket holder.

Colleen Thrailkill reported that any charity quilts received in the next two

months will be displayed on a charity table at the August Quilt Show.

Colleen asked for volunteers to sew microwave potato bakers and fabric

bowls for the Quilt Show Gift Shop. For those who volunteer, Colleen will email

pattern directions.

Members were reminded of the Scholarship Fund, and to speak directly to

Barbara Barrier.

Rene Crowder reminded members that the UFO Challenge deadline is

June 30.

Barbara Barrier reminded members to bring their Blue, Yellow, Green

Challenge submissions to the July meeting for judging.

Laurie Jasany reported there are no new books for the Library.

Julie Murphy provided an update for the Quilt Show. We need about 30

more quilts to meet our advertising commitment of over 200 quilts. Julie re-

quested that prior show winners submit their quilts for a special display (the

submission deadline is July 7 for prior show winners). Also, the deadline to

submit general entry quilts will be extended to Friday, June 30 for email sub-

missions only.

Minutes from June’s Meeting, Continued

Julie reminded members that name labels need to be covered when quilts

are submitted.

Volunteer sign-up sheets are available. Julie highlighted that Amanda

Murphy’s booth will need staff for all day Friday, as Amanda will not be attend-

ing that day. Also, members are asked to assist Amanda on Saturday.

Members are asked to sell program ads. The ad sign-up sheet is on-line.

Ads will be accepted until the end of July.

MaryJo Belk emphasized the importance of selling donation quilt tickets

by asking members to “sell, sell, sell!”

The July program is a Pot Luck salad supper. Everyone is asked to bring

a dish. There will not be an auction. Five members volunteered to create table

centerpieces.

The July workshop on Saturday, July 29, is a scrappy quilt workshop by

Rene Crowder. The pattern is Trail Mix and is available for free at All People

Quilt. The web address is http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quilt-patterns/bed-

quilts/trail-mix.

Workshop

July 29th (Saturday) we will be having our scrap quilt workshop. The

design we voted on was Trail Mix. Here is the link to the pattern:

http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quilt-patterns/bed-quilts/trail-mix I al-

ready have my baggies labeled and some scraps in them – haha – seri-

ously, I must decrease this mess of scraps I have on hand!

August

Our August meeting is the Quilt Show Wrap UP! So let’s make it fun!

September

Our speaker is Bea Lea; she is a quilter from NC that has designed nu-

merous quilts that have been published in Quiltmaker Magazine as

well as others. She is going to present on EQ7, she has numerous tuto-

rials on her website. Her website is: www.beaquilter.com , check it out

– in addition her blog is sweet and she does lots with Accuquilt for

those of you that have one. Let me know if there’s anything you want

her to cover as I will be contacting her soon to hash out the agenda.

Wed, Sept. 27

ROAD TRIP (we love road trips in this

house!) Our goal is YLI Threads, tour

the facility, check out the items and for

those that wish, a stop at Mary Jos.

Upcoming Programs

October

Our presenter is Margaret Caughman and her lecture is, “Granny, Grand-

ma and Me, the Journey of 3 Generations of Quilters.” I have heard she is

a great story teller and has quilters to back up her stories! What could be

better???

Workshop Oct. 25 (Wednesday)

The workshop for October is by Jennifer Kay – she is another NC quilter

with an incredible eye for design and color. She is also a longarmer and

has numerous awards in her name. Additionally, she is a representative

for Marti Mitchell and don’t we all love her rulers. Hopefully, I will have a

sample or at least a picture of what we will be doing.

November

Besides presenting our table runners as we do every November, we are

going to have our auction in November. This gives us some time after the

Quilt Show to “clean out” as well as any left-over remnants from the show

that we might barter off. This can be a huge money maker for the Guild

so that is our goal this year!

— Deb Waldron

There will be Quilt Show Posters available at the Check-In table at the LNQ Guild

Meeting. Please be thinking about somewhere you could place one or two posters to

promote show.

It would be great to have a presence with the merchants on the main streets of

Mooresville and Davidson.

PLEASE PARTICIPATE!

Please Help Spread the Word About Our Quilt Show!

Quilt Show News

TIME TO STEP UP! Sign up sheets for various posts for the quilt show

will be at the July meeting. Please visit the sign-up table. There will be

many opportunities for before and during the show – Intake, Welcome Ta-

ble, Vendors, Playpen Frenzy, Gift Shoppe, Donation Quilt, and of course

setup and takedown. We also need a couple volunteers to man the Aman-

da Murphy booth on Friday. She will be there on Saturday.

Please plan on spending some time both days at the show and volun-

teer for as much as you can. Our membership is not what it used to be

and we cannot just sign up for one 2-hour block of time and meet all of our

needs.

Definitely plan on being at the Talbert Center for some amount of

time on Thursday, Aug 10, to help with setup. And be sure to bring those

strong men in your life because they are so helpful with the heavier

things.

AWARDS Again this year we want to gather to pass out the awards for

this year’s show. Please come to the Talbert Center at 6:00 on Thursday

evening and join us to applaud the winners – and get a sneak-peak at the

finished show.

NOTE: Absolutely no quilts will be released until the show has been tak-

en down. So come at 5:00 on Saturday and help out so we can all get our

quilts and go home and relax.

BLUE–YELLOW-GREEN CHALLENGE Have yours ready to bring to

the July Guild meeting. We are doing an in-house judging – ribbons will

be awarded by your fellow guild members for their favorite quilts.

ADS Thanks for the great work with Ads. We really have hit-it-out-of-the-

park. Joyce reports that we have sold ads amounting to close to $900.

GIFT SHOPPE ITEMS Bring any additional items to the next Guild

meeting. We will also be accepting items during setup.
