From the Editor

What a day! Tideswell’s third annual Food Festival was a most memorable

day. Over sixty stalls and over 4500 ‘visitors’ (which included us lot too!)There was a great enthusiasm amongst the village to make this work and the fact that it all went smoothly is testament to the spirit of Tideswell Folk.

And so to June. Wakes Week is rapidly approaching and our fantastic Wakes

Committee is in the full throws of final arrangements. Their energy and vigour has galvanised many in the village to make Wakes 2013 the biggest and best wakes yet. If you haven’t started planning yet, now is the time.

The recent funeral of Margaret Thatcher reminded us all of her infamous

proclamation that there was “no such thing as Society”. I think that anyone who still holds that view should spend a few moments in Tideswell and experience for themselves just what society can do if it really tries.

Tideswell Kitchen Garden Open Day

Your Kitchen Garden has been transformed over 2 years from derelict

land to a thriving fruit, vegetable and herb garden. This is all down to the work of volunteers in the village who have given equipment, landscaping materials, plants and hours of hard work.

Well it’s time to celebrate our achievement as a village and say a thank you to all those involved.

On Sunday 23rd June from 12.30 you are invited to join us in the Kitchen Garden behind The Institute for a BBQ and refreshments and because it’s Wakes Week we have both the 2013 Wakes Queen and

the 1949 Wakes Queen to help with the official opening.

Everyone is welcome so come and join in.

The Kitchen Garden is the “Grow It” part of Taste Tideswell. It is open to the whole community to get involved with vegetable growing; for those who don’t have a garden, want to lean more about growing, or can pass on their skills to others in the village. The garden is supported by Tideswell School of Food in return for garden produce.

Sunday 23rd June from 12.30 p.m. in the Kitchen Garden, behind The Institute.

Good Manners at School

Good table manners are so important and at Bishop Pursglove we have

been working hard to reward children who eat nicely, manipulate their cutlery well, are polite and make healthy choices at lunchtimes. We have been running a “Food for Thought” initiative. Children are rewarded with table points for making good choices in the dinner hall and then on a Friday the table with the most points becomes “table of the week.”

This means a nice table cloth is put on the table; they are served first and have juice to drink in fancy cups too. As a really special treat they have an After Eight mint too! This is the real high point!

They then receive a ticket to go in the “Food for Thought” raffle. We then draw, at random, 10 tickets each half term. Last week we took the first group to The George in Tideswell. We were very well looked after and the children all enjoyed their fabulous home made chicken fillets in batter, home cut chips and salad, followed with lovely red jelly. Mrs. Conacher and Mrs. Kilford accompanied the lucky winners with one of the governors. One member of the public commented on the fantastic behaviour and table manners of all the children there.

If you are a local business and would like to sponsor one of our “Food for Thought lunches” we would love to hear from you. The budget is £50 per lunch i.e.: £5 per head. If you could sponsor one it would be lovely if you could accompany us to the lunch. We will also include the sponsorship details in the school newsletters and Village

Voice. Please ring school if you think you would like to help.

We look forward to seeing you out and about in the local community rewarding excellent lunchtime manners.

Wild in Flagg

Flagg Nursery School had a fantastic time when the Wildlife Workshop came to

visit bringing along animals and insects of all shapes and sizes.

This year Flagg Nursery School has had visits from Living Eggs, Stick Insects and Little Olympians Sports Coaching as well as trips to Manchester Museum, Taddington School, Monyash, Carsington Water, and the local wood for Forest Schools.

We have spaces available for new starters from September 2013. We accept children aged from 2 years. For more information, please visit our website, www.flagg.derbyshire.sch.uk or ring the school office on 01298 85208.

Our annual summer fund-raiser, the ‘Strawberry Fayre’, will this year be held on Saturday 15th June from 2-4 p.m. at the Nursery School, Main Road, Flagg. Attractions will include a mini roundabout, trampolines, face painting, raffle, tombola, and of course our fantastic homemade scones with fresh strawberries and cream! This event is suitable for all ages. Fingers crossed for sunshine.

Over £1000 for MS

In the last month, two impressive money raising events were held in our

community to raise money for MS. In April Hazel raised £430 at Litton village hall with fine fare on offer and some fine cake games too. Phil Robinson won the number-of-the-calories-of-the-smarties-on-the-cake game (a streamlined name might be needed in future!) and Andrea H won the best bun sweepstake. Hazel would like to thank all those who supported the event. She asks, “Same again next year?”

Then in May Andrea H raised £751 at Fountain Square church hall. There are many, thank yous to be made. Firstly, to the army of helpers whose help was much needed and much appreciated. Secondly, thank you to all who came out on such a miserable Saturday morning. Finally, thank you to all

those who contributed raffle prizes: The Derwent Gallery in Grindleford, Susan Lomas-Fletcher, Tideswell School of Food, Markovitz Kitchens & Bathrooms, Tindalls, Peak Volumes, The Co-op, Peak District Dairy, N T Gibbs, Fountain Square Pharmacy, The Cherry Tree, Peaches, Litton Larder and thanks too for contributions from Tideswell Surgery staff and Jen Bower’s Phoenix cards.

Please contact me for details of the venues for our next two Get Togethers which are on Saturday 25th May and Saturday 22nd June. Finally thank you very much to Louise and Kenny of Vanilla Kitchen for hosting us for the past two years. However we refuse to apologise for laughing too much! Chuckle muscles do need exercising you know....

Tidza Ramblers

Dry sunny bank holidays seem rare so we were lucky at the beginning

of May. We were soon reminded of how spectacular the scenery is on the stretch of the Wye through Chee Dale. The stepping stones, tricky in wet conditions, were easy to cross. A yellow wagtail on the river held our attention. One of us is a member of Natural England and someone seeing the logo on her shirt, asked for help in identifying an oval shaped nest. It was probably home to a long tailed tit. No sunshine for the second walk but certainly an abundance of wild flowers. In Deep Dale the banks of cowslips were at their best. We also admired red campion, primroses, wood anemones, bluebells, wild pansies and

Bluebell Coffee

I would like to thank everyone who helped raise £643 at the coffee morning on the

4th of May for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Many thanks to all who donated so generously and to the two waitresses who delivered it all with efficiency and charm.

Grateful thanks to members of the Mothers’ Union for their support. The representative from the hospice said she enjoyed it very much.

orchids. In the afternoon we chatted with two men who asked for directions. ‘What a lovely bunch of ladies’, exclaimed one. He had told us that he was a salesman! Personally, I’m at an age when any compliment is welcome - real or imagined.

The walk on the 9th will probably be in the area of the Roaches.

NAILS AND COTTON

The Tideswell Local History Club was treated to a very knowledgeable tour

around Belper by Joan Ward on their May evening excursion. Belper is an interesting little town which has known at least two major industries in it’s time.

The un-missable North Mill, dated 1912, is evidence of the cotton industry which was promoted here by Derbyshire man Jedediah Strutt. He and his family had a huge weir built across the Derwent, powerful enough to drive eight different mills and which at one time employed 3000 people!

This was at a time of great industrial unrest with machine wreckers troubling many factories and so it is still possible to see gun emplacements built into an old gangway across the road. However, the Strutts were much more enlightened and paternalistic than the mill owners in the Tideswell area. Being Unitarians they believed in helping others to help themselves. They owned three farms, whose produce went towards feeding the workers. They started a school and Belper could even boast of a factory with a 40 piece orchestra! But they did insist on good behaviour – you could be fined for having a dirty machine etc. or even for misbehaving in the town at night.

One of their major contributions was in the design of the mills themselves. Older wooden mills were always going up in flames. The Strutts designed iron framed buildings which had composition floors. These iron (later, steel) frames were later adopted all over the World for high-rise construction.

Before cotton, Belper was famous for the production of iron nails. Joan took us past a tiny workshop where at one time a self-employed nailer would beat out 1000 nails per week. It must have been a very noisy town with around 500 nailers working here before their trade was ruined by the new Birmingham manufactories.

Many thanks Joan, it was an excellent evening and we learned lots.

B. Woodall

HIGHS & LOWS

April started well in the Kitchen Garden – we had a hard working group of

volunteers who did a great job of getting the garden ready for planting but then a couple of nights later the winds wreaked havoc – the polytunnel greenhouse was uprooted and turned upsidedown. Three of us dismantled the greenhouse and rescued the plants, making a temporary coldframe and taking the rest indoors before the greenhouse could be re-erected but well secured. Thankfully most of the pots of seeds, seedlings and little plants were unscathed and have now been planted out and are thriving. The greenhouse is once more full of plants and seedlings ready to go out.

FOOD FESTIVAL - We had lots of visitors in the Garden on the day of the

Food Festival despite the heavy downpours, it’s surprising how many people can shelter in a greenhouse and under a gazebo at one time. Thankfully it wasn’t raining when we did the BBQ.

Parish Council Community Awards

The Parish Council award scheme started three years ago to honour the

unsung heroes of the village.

There are a great many organisations within the community, and they run purely because of willing individuals who devote time and talents to the activities. The choice of winners is difficult, as the standard among so much Tideswell talent, is high.

For the first time, this year there was a special event to celebrate the winners. Previously the trophies have been given at the Annual Parish meeting. This time around a meal was enjoyed at the George Hotel in Tideswell to celebrate.

Under 25 category winner is Ellie Koyander. Ellie has surpassed all sports achievements of anyone locally, by hard work, perseverance and determination, to become an Olympian. She represented team GB in 2010 skiing contests, and in a few months will again compete in the Winter Olympics.

Tideswell is very proud of her.

The over 25 category was won by Richard Lomas, who represents Tideswell sports in a different way.

Richard has devoted 30 years to Tideswell boys’ football teams. He has worked to promote and maintain the teams, So many budding footballers have been taken under his wing and he is an example of reliability, dependability and commitment.

Councillor Sue Barber presented the awards.

Online Events Diary

Did you know that there is a calendar on the Village Voice website

which lists local events? See http://villagevoicetideswell.org.uk/events/. If you are organising an event you can register on the Village Voice site which gives you access to the calendar so you can add your event. Alternatively, simply drop an email to Carrie at [email protected] and she will list it for you.

For events which are aimed at visitors to the village (as well as residents), Carrie is also happy to tweet about them for you from the @VisitTideswell twitter account. Again, just drop her an email on the above address (or tweet her!) There’s lots happening in Tideswell over the summer months, so let’s spread the word far and wide about our wonderful village!

Community Well

Due to shortages in funding there will not be a Girlguiding well dressing

this year but, fortunately, Tideswell Community Association have agreed to fund a ‘community well’ to temporarily replace this one. It will be co-ordinated by Lynne Burns and myself and everyone is welcome to come along and help regardless of age or ability (though children should be accompanied by an adult).

If you enjoy drawing and would like to submit a picture for the ‘well’, the theme is ‘Community in Tideswell’, Please hand to Lynne or myself by Sunday 9th June. We will be making the well dressing in the garage at The George, so come and have a go between 6 and 8 o’clock from Tuesday 18th and Friday 21st June. Sharon Jellis 07530 983173.

Tideswell Singers

Tideswell Singers are celebrating after a fantastic day of singing on 20th April,

when over a hundred enthusiastic singers joined them to ‘Sing through the Centuries’ in our magnificent Cathedral of the Peak. It was very special to sing English Church music covering four centuries in a building that has changed very little since it was first heard.

We thank the church community for the support they give us in hosting such events.

We must also thank Elaine Kearney and her helpers from the Cubs and Scouts who provided refreshments through the day and also raised £300 to add to their fund of over £1,000 to support Olympic Mogul skier, Ellie Koyander.

You can hear some of those pieces again when we share a concert with Tideswell Community Players at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday 26 June in Tideswell Parish Church during Wakes week.

Other chances to hear us in true community spirit will be on Wednesday 19 June 7:30 p.m. at St Hugh’s Parish Church Foolow to celebrate the recent refurbishing of the church and Wednesday 17 July 7:30 p.m. in Taddington.

Tideswell Singers is a mixed voice non-audition choir which enjoys performing a wide ranging repertoire and welcomes new members. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays in Litton Village Hall at 7:30 p.m. For more information please visit www.tideswellsingers.org.uk or call Carol Bowns 01298 213577.

TDCA AGM

At our AGM the TDCA discussed what we are all about and what we offer the

community. We see ourselves as an umbrella organisation offering all community groups support, funding and advice, and promotion and signposting through the website and welcome pack. Our ambition for 2013 is to raise as much awareness as possible about the 200 Club and boost membership to over 200. The more members we have the greater funds we have to support local projects and the bigger the prizes for our members.

The group agreed that Tideswell is a great place to live and that we would like to do more for the village. You can help us by joining the 200 club, as your membership will help to fund local projects and initiatives. You can also help by volunteering your time to support activities of interest in the village.

We call on every member of the WI to support their local shops and make the high street their destination of choice for goods and services. All members agreed, adding that accessibility and better parking would help.

This was followed by a Lovely Floral Arrangement Demonstration by Julia Walker and then all members had a go with amazing results!

The next meeting will be held in Litton Village Hall Wednesday 12th June 7 30 p.m.

The speaker will be Mr Peter Wild talking about The Chesterfield Canal .

Food Festival 2013

Dear VillageI am writing on behalf of the organising team to say were pleased to see so many Tideswell people at this year’s Food Festival and we hope that everyone really enjoyed the day. Since the Festival, I have received many messages from stall holders, visitors and Tideswell folk and a constant theme was of the great atmosphere that was experienced. That great atmosphere was down to the people of Tideswell who were welcoming, out to have fun and enjoy the whole event.

Tideswell Food Festival is a community event and I was particularly pleased to hear that over £1000 was raised for local good causes including Tideswell Scouts, TASC, Tideswell Community Association and the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

It would not be possible to hold such an event without the help of many people and we were extremely grateful to the people of Church Street, Fountain Street and Cherry Tree Square in particular, who allowed the stalls outside their doors and were of course key to the ‘Street Market’ theme which works so well. Also, our sincere thanks goes to all those who helped out on the day, whether by providing a source of electricity, erecting stalls, as stewards, or in whatever capacity.

Thank you again.

Philip Walker

Festival Numbers

Estimating how many people attended the previous Food festival was always

difficult so this year we used technology to help.

A series of grey boxes ‘counted’ a sample of visitors and it’s estimated with a fair amount of confidence that over 4500 people, locals and residents, attended. The average stay was an hour and a half. Who knows what the average spend was?

This is a fantastic number and the fact that the whole event went so smoothly is testament to the fine organisation and the willingness of the village to make it work.

Dear EditorI would just like to say congratulations to everyone involved with the very successful 3rd Food Festival. Roll on next year.

Mary Landon

What a wonderful day and congratulations to all those people who organised it.

The atmosphere in the village was fantastic and brought out our true community spirit. We are a lovely village and I am proud to be a part of this very special community.

We pride ourselves in being caring and fun and we look out for each other. There are groups and activities for all ages. The Food Festival had a positive effect in promoting and fund raising for all our village’s groups.

WELL DONE TIDESWELL!

Living History

June is nearly here and Wakes Week is fast approaching. Our exhibition in the Parish

Church will be there again. Come and have a good look at our collection of old photographs and share a memory or two.

Our “Poetry Competition” is still running until June 22nd. Post your entry through the letter box of 16 Church Street or email it to us on [email protected].

There are no limitations to the number of lines or verses, just relate it to a memory or story of Tidza. There are two categories: Adults and Children under 12 with “CASH PRIZES”. The winning entries will be displayed on the History Box in Fountain Square. Check out the photograph displayed in Gratton Gardens, these will change monthly. Do you know anyone on them? If so let us know by email or telephone Gill - 871900 or Mary 871817.

We are still interviewing and recording your memories, have you listened to any of them? Go to https://soundcloud.com/tideswell-tales or http://tideswelltales.wordpress.com.

Tideswell Fell Race

The annual Tideswell Fell Race will be held on 28th June at 7.45 p.m. Start

from Tideswell Dale Car Park – registration and entry (£4) on the night from 7.15 p.m.

Refreshments provided – all proceeds to Tideswell Youth Club.

Tideswell School of Food

It is now more than two years since the School of Food was established since

when the business has been developing well.

As a Social Enterprise Company, all profits are put back into the company with many of the people, including directors, being volunteers. We have created 10 jobs. Where possible we support our local economy and many of our suppliers live and work in the Tideswell area.

Since the school opened, almost 6,000 people have been on courses. In our first year, turnover was just over £30,000. In the second year we achieved £119,000 and in our third year we are expecting to reach £175,000. A great success story for our village in difficult economic times.

In early 2012, the directors reviewed our activities to bring greater stability to the business. We increased the number of courses and introduced new ones to help sustain the growth. Our courses and activities are often supported by volunteers. If you would like to help, please contact us on 01298 871262.

A few directors have left over the last year and we thank them for their incredible efforts in helping establish the school. New directors have joined and we are keen to attract more. Please contact us for details.

Many residents regularly learn new skills at the school ranging from brewing to baking. If you would like to help or make suggestions for future courses, please call in at the school whenever we are open.

Parish Council Matters

The Annual Parish Meeting on May 13th at 6.30 p.m. was cancelled at “the

eleventh hour” when it was revealed that the protocol for advertising the meeting had been incorrect. The new date for the meeting is 28th May 2013, at 7.00 p.m.,at the Fountain Square church, and will be advertised accordingly.

The Parish Council apologises for the inconvenience to the residents who attended.

No members of the public attended the normal monthly meeting which was held from 7.15 p.m. that same evening.

The Public Toilets were discussed again, and the cleaning contract will be put out to tender following a report from the British Toilet Association. (A body which most people did not realise existed.) Dog toilet requirements were also discussed again. The bin at the Cliffe has been deemed fit for purpose by the District Council, but the Parish Council does not agree. This issue has been ongoing for some months. A new bin will be purchased by the Parish Council, to replace the existing one.

The Council fulfilled its financial obligations, and paid outstanding invoices in the normal manner, cheques being signed and checked by four different individuals, before being countersigned by the Chairman. Planning matters were dealt with in the routine manner.

The Town Head playground equipment repairs will take place shortly. The trees have been lopped, in accordance with the directive from The Derbyshire Police.

The car park adjacent to the play area is designated for use of cars bringing children to the area for safety reasons. The surface will be repaired and residents are asked to respect the facility, by leaving it free for use by play area users. The next full Parish Council monthly meeting will take place at the library on Monday 10th June at 7.15 p.m. Residents are always welcome to attend these meetings, and there is a slot reserved at the beginning of the meeting for the public to speak on any Parish Council issues.

WAKES 2013

Wakes Week is nearly here. We cannot believe how fast time has flown and

Wakes Week will soon be upon us!

It was great to see so many of you at the Food Festival supporting the Tideswell Wakes Team and orders have been placed for the I Heart Tidza Wakes merchandise!! We are really pleased so many have caught the Tidza Wakes ‘bug’. It is great to see everyone contributing by putting posters in windows, buying raffle tickets, quizzes and guessing the number of sweets in the jar!

Others are currently planning how to decorate houses or even streets, deciding on fancy dress costumes or what theme your Carnival Procession entry will be this year!

As with all the events the Wakes Committee is organising, our main aim is to make them all enjoyable and fun for all but ultimately safe for everyone who will be getting involved or spectating. This is particularly true for the highlight of Wakes Week: the Big Sat’dy Carnival Procession!

To help us plan the procession as efficiently as possible (we have had an increased interest this year with more people wanting to take part and more marching Bands visiting us) we really need everyone who wishes to enter a float to sign-up with us before 5 p.m. on Friday 28th June.

All you need to do is call myself or Nicky (numbers below). When you sign up we will need to take some basic details such as the type of vehicle, the theme, whether it will have music playing on the float. This will be

a massive help and allow us to preplan the procession so we can ensure everyone gets a really good position in the procession to showcase both the floats and the Bands.

It is also our duty to make you aware that the Tideswell Wakes Festivities Insurance will not cover any vehicle in the procession in the unlikely event that a motor accident occurred. Please therefore ensure that the vehicle you are using as a float is sufficiently insured and covered for the event.

The other important news is that we are very proud to announce that we have elected our Wakes Royalty for this year. They will be making their official debut during Wakes Week and you can learn more about our lovely Royalty in the Wakes Programme. Programmes will be on sale in the usual outlets from early June!

We wish everyone a very happy and safe Wakes Week. Liz on 07754 299382 or [email protected] or Nicky on 01298 872691 or [email protected]

Poem for WakesSo, I was listening to ‘Jerusalem’,

and I thought; ………how cool would that be,if William Blake, incarnate, dropped by for wakes’ ‘Big Sat’dy’.And I wondered how a craftsman,A ‘wordsmith’ such as he,would ‘set the scenein his mind’s eye’for everyone to see?

In essence; If Mr. Blake, for argument’s sake, was alive today and could thus partake, what would Blake make of Tidza Wakes?,and what form would Blake’s ’Wakes’ Ode’ take? A Fake Blake’s Take On Wakes. And did that maid of Tidza TownWear proud the crown of The Wakes Queen? And was the regal sash of goldAcross her ample bosom seen?

And did not Tideswell Silver BandCommence that grand, long drawn parade,Of wagons, tractors, trailers and Box-carts, rebuilt, as chariots made?

And did the ‘Glamorous Granny’ not Glide forth upon her gilded float? And was the spit-roast lamb on cobsNot served by men in butcher’s coats?

And did those clouds at once unfold,To let the sun come blazing down?A fiery ball of burnished goldO’er Tidza’s green and pleasant town.

That limestone gem midst peakland hills,Sprung from man’s need for lead,Adjacent once satanic millsSynonymous with dread.

Bring me my pint of foaming ale,Bring me my cob on paper plate,Bring me my saw, I might availTo free a cow from a five-bar-gate!

I will not cease my love of wakes,Nor shall my torch-light ever wane,‘Til I have done what e’er it takesTo visit Tidza Wakes again.

(With apologies to William Blake.)

The Audience

Dame Helen Mirren has received the Best Actor Olivier Award for her

outstanding performance in her reprise of the role as the Queen in The Audience, a play that is a total sellout in London, and can now only be seen in one of the live screenings around the world. Tideswell is the smallest of these venues, and possibly the only not-for-profit initiative amongst hundreds that will screen the play this month.

The live screening on 13th June is sold out, but there are still a few seats for the Encore on Saturday 15th June. This will be shown upstairs in The George, starting promptly at 7 p.m.. If you would like to book tickets (£10 each), please contact Jacqueline Teeney on 01298 872993 or email [email protected].

Parish Church News

We hope that Simon and his wife Gillian will be very happy here in Tideswell, and working with the churches, schools and communities in Wormhill, Cressbrook, Litton, Millers Dale and Peak Dale.

Leather and Willow

The summer of 2013 marks the start of a new venture for Tideswell Cricket

Club – Saturday league cricket. TCC has absorbed the remnants of the Sheffield Zingari team which previously played in the Yorkshire & Derbyshire League, and, as a new entrant to the League, has been put into a new 6th Division. There is one other Peak District team in this Division – Hathersage 2nds – and the rest are from the Sheffield and NE Derbyshire area.

This means 46-over cricket on a Saturday afternoon. Because the 6th Division is quite small, each team plays each of the others three times.

After three fixtures TCC are riding high: full points were awarded when Apperknowle 3rds failed to turn up, Chesterfield Barbarians 3rds were comfortably beaten, and the match v Hollinsend Meths 3rds was rained off without a ball being bowled.

A reduced programme of friendly fixtures has been arranged. Both Youlgreave and a new combined Hope Valley XI, playing at Hathersage, were on the losing side to Greg Taylor’s TCC, which means that Tideswell are so far unbeaten in 2013.

Local players Dan Shirt, Tim Pepper, George Brown and Matt Jellis have featured regularly in the XI, George finishing on 44no at Hathersage.

Coach Stuart Scoffins has begun training a group of 8-11 year olds on a Thursday after school. The eventual plan is to form a team to play other local youth XIs. For an introduction to TCC, ring Bob Walkden on 871804.

Bowl’d Over

Before we delve into the detailed & complex statistical analysis of our latest

bowling results you really should be girding up your loins for the infamous Rock ‘n’ Bowls in the middle of Wakes Week on Wed June 6th starting at 6.30 p.m.. Yet again you’ll be regaled with wit & ‘humour’ of Wain & Wrighty, the temptingly tasteful pork butties from The Master Carver Mr. Gibby, and a chance to win the legendary Toilet Duck in Marie’s Bottle Tombola.

You can also regale us with your flamboyantly designed hat in the Funny Hat competition – so come along cos it’ll be fun one way or the other. At both of these events you’ll be able to buy Diana’s devious quiz sheet, modestly priced at only £1. And you have ‘til the end of September to complete it.

And now for some bowling. The Monday League team are 5th out of eleven & striving ever harder under the inspirational captaincies of Ken Fawcett & Terry Shaw. The Mixed up Pairs had a notable win against Peak Dale on a cold & drizzly evening when all four pairs won. Miss Sarah Hollis, in her debut appearance, had an excellent start to her professional career with the modest Michael Watson. Will she be the queen of the green?

The Thursday Vets are 4th out of twelve but only because captains Diana Cameron & Alan Thornton are laying the rusty barbed wire on hard.

DO NOT forget that Friday night is club night so see you on the green after 6 p.m.

Griff. [email protected]
