2017 Friend of Agriculture: John Nelson & Nelson-Jameson, Inc.In 1947, Nelson-Jameson, Inc. started in a vacant Toluco, IL cheese factory as a dairy equipment and supply firm. A space heater fueled by corn cobs kept things warm. In addition to the four founders: Earl Nelson, his father - Ted Nelson, Herb Jameson, and Bob Dougherty, the only employee was a secretary/bookkeeper.

Distances between dairy plants were relatively long in that part of the country. After two years, the partners looked at a map of dairy production, and moved the firm to Marshfield, Wisconsin. Shortly thereafter, Jameson and Dougherty left the firm to pursue separate careers, leaving the company in the control of the Nelsons. Today, Nelson-Jameson is under the leadership of the 3rd and 4th generations of the Nelson family.

The move to Marshfield proved to be fortuitous for the young firm. While maintaining it’s strong dairy industry base, the Nelson-Jameson customer list grew to include virtually every type of food processor. A regional presence gradu- ally became a truly national outlook, as the company acquired customers in all 50 states and around the world.

Earl’s son, John Nelson, joined the firm in 1975, and in 1977, the firm moved from its location on Central Avenue to its current location on East 5th Street. The building, designed by John, earned him the 1977 Armco National Design Award. John continues to be a driving force in the growth and expansion of Nelson-Jameson, and has seen the company through 6 additions to the Marshfield building, as well as the addition of branches in California, Texas, Idaho, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. John is not only a champion of growth for his company, but also for the food processing industry, and for the Marshfield community. Over the years, John has served on numerous industry association boards, was a part of the 3A Standards Task Force, and is a lifetime member of the North Central Cheese Industry Association.

John has also been a positive figure in the community for both his philanthropicsupport, and his involvement in an array of causes and organizations. John is a generous advocate of the United Way, a former MACCI Ambassador and Transportation Committee member. He has served on the Marshfield City Plan Commission, the Economic Development Board, and was on the Industrial Park Authority for the City of Marshfield. John has also been on the local board of Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, and both the local and regional boards of Associated Bank.

For 70 years Nelson-Jameson has proudly provided it’s customers with the products they need to produce safe, quality foods from farm to fork. In terms of customer service, Nelson-Jameson goes above and beyond that offered by most vendors. These products and services, coupled with the same Golden Rule Principles and integrity that directed the company during its early years, today proudly serve the food and dairy industry not only in Wisconsin, but across the US, and abroad.

Identity Theft & Privacy Protection Issues

Tuesday, June 20, 2017

Noon – 12:45 pm MACCI Conference Room 700 South Central Avenue

Marshfield

This workshop is developed for businesses regarding the rising threat of data breaches and business data security best practices. A data breach can cause devastating consequences to a business, not only damaging its reputation, but also resulting in loss of clientele. The purpose of this workshop is to provide guidelines that help businesses proactively plan to minimize data collection, enhance data protection and create a response plan. By planning in advance, businesses of all sizes can minimize the risks, costs and impact a breach has on their customers and the reputation of their company.

The Bureau of Consumer Protection advocates that businesses create a data breach response plan and be prepared for the likelihood that they will experience a breach or data loss; a well-designed plan is an essential part of regulatory compliance, demonstrating that business is willing to take reasonable steps to protect data from abuse.

Our presenter is Laura Fay, Agency Liaison for the Bureau of Consumer Protection within the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Laura is a subject expert on identify theft and privacy

protection related issues.

This informational program is FREE and open to everyone. You are welcome to

Answer:One way is to call your existing lender and try to negotiate a lower rate. Often, the threat of losing a customer and the associated income from your finance charges can inspire a card company to accept a lower interest rate and keep the relationship. Negotiation is most effective if you have a stable payment history with the company. If your present card company won't negotiate, you can transfer your existing balance to a new lender with a lower rate. Be careful, however, that it isn't a teaser rate that's offered for a few months and then will be raised higher than your existing rate. Ask for a clear accounting of what the rate applies to (e.g., balance transfers, new purchases, cash advances), as well as all other card limitations and penalties. Find out if there is a transaction fee before you agree to the transfer. Keep in mind that lenders are making it increasingly difficult to continuously "surf" for low credit card rates. Some card companies now restrict balance transfers during a set time (e.g., a year) after you sign up. If you try to transfer to another card during that period, you may be retroactively charged a higher rate.

How can I lower the interest rate on my credit card?

MEGA Sports Camp AnnouncementMarshfield area children have an opportunity to have a ball learning about positive principles through an outreach event called MEGA Sports Camp. The sports camp is a new approach to summer vacation bible camp. “We want to give kids the chance to learn more about sports, discover character-building concepts, and have a whole lot of fun,” says Camp Director Eddie Antoniewicz.

As North Ridge Church’s fourth year hosting this event, kids in grades kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to participate in a free sports camp held Sunday, June 18 - Thursday, June 22 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at North Ridge Church. Combining the love of sports and encouragement is the core of this program. Children from any background, skill level or local church are invited to attend this free event.

At MEGA Sports Camp Conquer the Day, kids can choose between Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Flag Football or Cheer-leading. It doesn’t matter if they’ve played all their life or just started yesterday, MEGA Sports Camp helps kids improve their skills and self-esteem.

Between Sports Sessions, coaches help kids experience inspiring sports and Bible stories to help character-building themes take hold in kids’ hearts. And most importantly, kids will discover God’s great love for them.

But that’s not all. Kids will also enjoy fun sports training, snacks, upbeat rallies filled with energetic music, and Bible sto-ries that will help them discover character traits that can help them excel in sports and in life.

When: Sunday, June 18 – Thursday, June 22 Time: 6:15 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Registration/check-in opens at 6 p.m. Where: North Ridge Church, 1021 W. McMillan Street, Marshfield WI Cost: FREE Ages: Kindergarten through 6th grade
