a healing fixture
Project partnered with Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Dr. Madhu Prasad, M.D., F.A.C.S. and Taryn Simon helped my class gain full access to do our research throughout Henry Ford, allowing us to be fresh eyes coming in and experiencing and viewing problems that the hospital encounters through various situations, and coming up with ways they could be improved through design.
Studies have taken place that show how the environment a person is in while they are healing from an illness or recovering from a surgery have a direct correlation to the time and way in which they heal.

Color therapy and healing (also known as chromotherapy) is a type of holistic healing that uses the visible spectrum of light and color to affect a person’s mood and physical or mental health.
A pleasant smell is known to lower our blood pressure and heart rate. Our sense of smell reaches more directly into our memory and emotions than the other senses. In hospitals, medicinal smells often produce anxiety.
Feng Shui is an ancient art and science used to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for people inhabiting it.
According to Feng Shui corners harbor the “evil spirits,” the round edges keep them flowing through and out the room. Sharp angles are said to emit negative energy.

V . I . EA fixture to enhance the patient room environment, through color and scent therapy to eliminate stress and increase the level of physical and psychological comfort.
Patient has complete control over the settings of every feature at their hand, with a remote.
Light can be dimmed to suit each patient to their liking, or turned off completely while the other functions are in use.
Scent therapy offers 3 options, as well as scent strength customization.

V . I . E.very important environment
Henry Ford Hospital chose the V.I.E. to be featured at the Innovation Institute Opening on October 10, 2011. The V.I.E. was made into a prototype and is currently being used in the Orthopedic unit at Henry Ford Hospital, in Detroit. The V.I.E. project is continuing to grow with new developments currently underway.

travel pack
project brief:
A pack that would alleviate the burden of traveling with multiple bags, but also have the function to find something fast in an emergency. The pack will have compartments to house all the essentials for traveling, while keeping it organized and equally distributed across the back.
This is not a Patagonia product. The Patagonia brand was chosen as an inspiration based on their environmental integrity and simple yet completely functional design language.

- traditional backpacks have little organization.
- cannot grab something in pack quickly.
- pick pocketing/slashing is attainable when person cannot watch behind them constantly

A trendy tea set marketed towards urban teahouses, delivering a stylish sense of comfort and relaxation.
The tea set, composing of the main tray, teapot and cups, will convert a sense of style while confronting important ergonomic issues as well.
TThe most important aspect of the tea set will address the importance of environmental-friendliness. Our “green” set will showcase all the great possibilities of going green. With its biodegradable, starch-based materials, the tea set will enable its users to participate in the global efforts to save our environment.
target market
With the aim to create a new generation of tea products, the target market for our tea set are tea houses or tea rooms where there is a large focus on the overall impact of the setting and environment. The setting of these tea houses are very modern and fresh, moving away from the traditional and into the hip and trendy.
TThey are places for large group gatherings or just a quiet place to study and relax.
Tea houses are spurring up around the world and are becoming more and more popular in American culture.

Santoprene:Lined base, similar to rubber to provide a better grip for servers, to prevent slipping.
Starch Based Plastic: Annually renewable compound derived from starch based plants, such as potatoes, corn , and soy beans.
Santoprene:Lined rim for better grip of cups. Santoprene is a thermoplastic, that is also completely recyclable.

Starch Based Plastic:CompletelyCompletely biodegradable material. The cup contains a message on the inside of the cup informing the user of how they are helping reduce waste with the use of starch based plastics.
Ceramic:AA reusable, heat resistant, sleeve for the cups. Reinforcing how people can help reduce waste, by reusing this piece. The tea house can offer a discount every time a customer brings this in to promote their involvement in reducing waste. waste.

Lily pad inspiration follow a fluid direction.
Technique used to dye fabric is called batik, which uses wax as the dye resist.
color theory pattern designProcess of the pattern design, starting from initial sketch into the pattern design and then applying the final colors.
Fabric was printed on a ink jet printer, and then made into a pair of pillows to display the Bezold Effect, how colors appear different on black and white backgrounds.

Inspired by Mexican textiles and embroidery embellishments, I designed a shoulder bag, with hand embroidery to highlight the geometric floral pattern and bring out some color and texture. The colors were all inspired from Mexican textiles and tile work.
screen printed pattern designA set of devore, or burnout, scarves. Devore is a process of screen printing a pattern on fabric, such as velvet, with an acid that burns away the pile leaving the pattern in the negative space. After the burnout process they were then dyed using Procion Mx dyes.
