Term 4 Week 1

Condolences to the Edwards family

Term 4 has arrived after a very sad event for our local community. Yesterday our students were informed about the tragic passing of Hugh Edwards (Year 6 Class of 2017).

Each class took some time to remember Hughie and the fabulous boy that he was. We shared stories about him and our sadness with each other. We are holding our local community in our hearts over the coming weeks, especially those families who were involved.

We send our condolences to the Edwards family and are very grateful to know that the community have rallied around them. The community spirit that exists in Henty and surrounds continually humbles me.

Look after yourselves

Yesterday, I sent a letter home outlining services that anyone could access if they require additional support in the coming weeks/months. Please know that we are looking after your children and keeping our eyes open. If you are concerned about your child, and how they may be coping, please let me know so we can provide the support that they may require.

Riverina Debating Trials

Yesterday we hosted students from around the Riverina as they trialled for a position on the Riverina Debating Team. Konnar Betts and Johnny Coe represented the school proudly. They both enjoyed their experience and reported that the competition was fierce. A special thanks to Jo Malmo for the event organisation.

Thinking of you all

2/3 Class News

Welcome back to Term 4!

Lots of new learning happening in our classroom this term. Students are currently learning about postcards and they will design and write a postcard from their holidays. We have looked at some examples and saw some of the things that they have in common and created some success criteria for their writing.

Students will also be working towards new writing, reading, maths and general personal goals in class. Hopefully families will be able to see their progress towards their goals on Seesaw.

Maths will continue to be the same this term, with students sitting a pre-test to place them into groups to ensure new learning for students with ‘I can’ statements showing what they know and what they are working on. This term I am hoping to be more reflective for students for them to be able to see their own growth in the subject.

Homework will officially be sent home next week. As well as having weekly ‘Words their Way’ list sent home for parents to pre-test and students to practice, students will also have a 50 nights Reading Challenge. Students will continue to record their home reading and I am hoping to have nearly all students have at least 50 nights of home reading for this term. Those families who opt in for the additional homework tasks, students will have a project to complete over the term. More information about this will be sent home on Monday.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on Seesaw, Class Dojo or by phoning the school.

Mrs Quinn

YEAR 4 PURPLE

Year 4 Class News

Welcome back to our final term of 2018! I hope everyone had a well earnt and relaxing break! We are again going to be very busy with lots of amazing things happening during this term including; sporting activities, band performances, PBL treat days and so much more. The children are already super excited to finish their time as year 4 students and I look forward to seeing them mature and grow into what will be amazing year 5 kids.

In Literacy this term we are going to have a focus on Poetry and Imaginative writing. The children will be given the opportunity to explore a range of poetry and poets and begin to understand the structure and purpose of this text type. Students are also going to be delving further into the scientific world and learning about Physical Science and how it affects us and the world around us.

Just a reminder to those children who haven’t returned their notes for cricket on Friday, please do so as soon as possible, as it will be a great day out in the sun with our friends and hopefully we can take a few wickets and hit a few runs at the same time.

Please continue to encourage your children to read every night, and to complete the weekly home learning sent home on Monday afternoon.

I look forward to another very busy and fun filled term!

Have a great week,

Mr Davis

Year 5 Class News

Welcome back! What an exciting term we have ahead of us. The students spent yesterday reviewing their goals from last term and planning new goals for this term, a lot of students have thought about stepping up as leaders in the school and working towards this.

We also made posters about all the exciting things we have this term such as; 5/6 Excursion, PBL treats, captain speeches, music concert and Henty’s Got Talent. These will be placed around the classroom to remind us and count down the days towards them.

During Writing this term we will begin to look at Imaginative Texts, with a strong focus around poetry and plays, linking in with some Drama. In Geography we will continue to look at our ‘Diverse and Connected World’ whilst discussing our upcoming school excursion. In Science we will continue our topic ‘Physical World’ looking at light and sound.

Please try to allow time for your child to look over their spelling words, practice their times tables and do some reading each night. Please feel free to get in contact with me if you have any concerns throughout the term. I’m looking forward to our last term and hope the students are as excited as I am.

Miss Watson.
