Hello KSPS families, I hope you all had a great long weekend, it really is a beautiful time to be out and about camping and fishing, enjoying the great outdoors. As mentioned last week, we have many students participating in different out of school activities at this time of the year and we have included a recount from Asha and Harrison on their experience at the Mounted Games last weekend. Enjoy the read At Bakers Shield, Harrison and I had a great time. We did not win anything, but we still had fun. Before the competition, we got coached by Dan Foster, he taught us skills and I got chosen to do a demonstration, jumping off Moonlight while cantering. We came second in the balloon race, as well as third and fourth on the rest. The reason being, we were versing 15, 14, 13 and 12 year olds because it was the under 16 class. We had lots of fun. Asha Schmidt On the weekend, I went up to Darwin and did a days riding clinic, the next morning I did a bit more riding clinic before starting in the competition. I was competing for the Bakers Shield, and I came in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Other members of my team won the shield for Great Sportsmanship and Best and Fairest. Harrison Branson
Last Friday I had the privilege of working with three ‘Principal’s for the Day’ Miss Mia, Miss Shona and Miss Usher. The girls did a fantastic job at visiting classes and acknowledging students following the CARE Agreements in their classrooms, their drawing competition at recess and lunchtime was a huge success, and our T/1 students loved the opportunity to play with their older friends during playtime. I didn’t witness any staff doing the chicken dance…if you weren’t at assembly on Friday you will have to ask the kids about that one! The highlight for the girls of course is sneaking over to the Poprocket for morning tea…well, to be honest, it’s not just the girls! Hopefully there will be plenty more Principals over the coming weeks
There is lots of excitement building around the camps; our Year 6 students go next week and they are all looking forward to the experience. Both groups head off to the Territory Wildlife Park this year and participate in a range of different activities around the greater Darwin region. We look forward to hearing all about it on their return over the next few weeks.
NAPLAN occurs next week for our Year 3 and 5 students and teachers have been preparing students for this change in routine to minimise any anxiety. We encourage families to do the same, treat it as just another day at school. Students are familiar with assessment tasks and complete these regularly throughout the year, this is simply another one that all students do across the country to find out how well they are going. This year all testing is done online with the exception of the Year 3 Writing. I made it out to the Luke Kelly Cup and League Tag Gala Day briefly today, we had over 60 students participating which is fantastic – the largest numbers by far. What I saw was amazing, the team work and sportsmanship shown by our students is always to the highest level; we will make this a highlight in our newsletter next week.

our older past students who were ‘reffing’ on the day. It is that time of year where the annual Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards are open for nominations. The awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of school teachers, principals, leaders and support staff in Northern Territory Government schools. Nominations for the awards are open from 1st May to 25th May 2018. There are a number of different categories. The May Day Long Weekend fishing Competition saw 3 of our students come out winners! Ian Thomson – Longest cat fish caught at 77cm Jock Renfree – Longest Salmon caught at 58cm Kiannah Bryant – Mystery Length Fish Well done kids!

Wow! What a busy term we have! Lots of us are busy preparing for the school musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ with rehearsals, choreography, singing and prop design. With all of the added sporting
and camp commitments, time will certainly fly.
We have been working well on our narratives in writing before we move onto biographies. We have used a short film (Dreamgiver) to inspire our writing and have used lots of fantastic adjectives, adverbs, similes and metaphors to engage our audience. In HASS, we have been researching democracy and what it means to us. We look forward to presenting our projects in week 7 in small groups – some of us have chosen to do this through song, technology and art. In PE, we have been perfecting our athletics skills in preparation for the athletics carnival later this term. Busy! Busy! Busy!

Woolworth’s Earn & Learn program starts again today. This is a great opportunity for our school to receive free resources just by collecting stickers when you carry out your weekly grocery shop! We will have a box in the front office, and there will be a box at Woolworths to collect stickers on our behalf. Our After School Care Program, and both preschools are also collecting the stickers. We also have the backing sheets in the office should you need one.
