EVERYTHING IS CHANGED Easter changes everything. Having been raised from the dead, Jesus shatters the frightful images that haunt humanity. Betray-al, torture, crucifixion, death, burial—these terrors pale in the brilliant glory of Jesus res-urrected. Today’s psalm guides our response to God’s power: “it is wonderful in our eyes.” Today is indeed a day for wonder, for gasping in aston-ishment at Jesus’ resurrection. For all of hu-man history, death had been final. In the Acts of the Apostles, though, Peter testifies that Jesus, who was publicly executed, was raised to life by God. John’s Gospel admits that the disciples “did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.” Even Jesus’ closest friends were not expecting this innovation: life after death. In response to the Easter miracle, Paul tells us to become “a fresh batch of dough.” Everything, even our very selves, must become new. Easter changes everything.

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord– April 17, 2022

Dear brothers and sisters:

Happy Easter! As Catholic believers we proclaim with the en-tire Church on earth that Christ is Risen! As our faith celebrates the center of it, the resurrection of Christ, we recall the procla-mation of Saint Paul in His first letter to the Corinthians: If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is in vain.” (1 Cor 15:14) Truly, dear friends, our preaching is valid, is true, and our faith is sol-id. The Gospels’ texts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, written twenty-five to sixty five years after the Resurrection, reveal to us what happened in different ways. From a different perspective each one of the evangelists, who were writing to certain communities at a cer-tain time, uniquely explain the meaning of the Resurrection. They reveal to us that Jesus indeed has conquered death. In all four Gospel texts the empty tomb becomes the important link be-tween the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. His followers saw His body placed in the tomb be-fore the Sabbath began; but when the Sabbath was over, His body was no longer there. Jesus appears to His disciples. The ap-pearances of the risen Jesus led Christians to a faith that enabled them to look back and see that the empty tomb itself already could be understood as a revelation that Jesus was no longer dead. Also, in all four Gospels an angel

or angels appear at the tomb to make the meaning of the empty tomb crystal clear: Jesus is no longer in the tomb because He

has been raised! (FD)

In a very practical way, we must enter the mystery of the Resurrection. As we go

walking through this present life, we suffer. The challenges of life may not destroy our faith as we embrace Jesus who has suffered and died

and is Risen. We make every path of life pro-claiming the Gospel knowing that, as He prom-

ised, He is with us always.

Thus, we enter the mystery of the resurrection as we embrace our task of going into the whole world and tell the good News of Salvation, the

Gospel.

Truly, we are nourished as we experi-ence the presence of the Crucified and Risen

Christ in the celebration of the Mass. As mem-bers of the community of faith, we come to

Church to celebrate the Mystery of Faith, the Eucharist and thus we enter the mystery of the Resurrection. As the Risen Lord breathed on His disciples communicating to them the Holy Spir-it and re-creating all they were able to enter

the mystery of the Resurrection.

Precisely, through the Gift of the Holy Spirit we, the believers, are able to enter the mys-

tery of the Resurrection.

Today, entering the Mystery of the Resurrec-tion, we proclaim with our life that Jesus is

truly risen!

Reverend Fr. Alfredo A. Rolón-Ortiz PASTOR

The Resurrection of our Lord Revelation given to Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich

I BEHELD the soul of our Lord between two angels, who were in the attire of war-riors: it was bright, luminous, and resplendent as the sun at mid-day; it pene-trated the rock, touched the sacred body, passed into it, and the two were in-stantaneously united, and became as one. I then saw the limbs move, and the body of our Lord, being reunited to his soul and to his divinity, rise and shake off the winding-sheet: the whole of the cave was illuminated and lightsome. At the same moment I saw a frightful monster burst from the earth underneath the sep-ulchre. It had the tail of a serpent, and it raised its dragon head proudly as if desirous of attacking Jesus; and had likewise, if I remember correctly, a human head. But our Lord held in his hand a white staff, to which was appended a large banner; and he placed his foot on the head of the dragon, and struck its tail three times with his staff, after which the monster disappeared. I then saw the glorified body of our Lord rise up, and it passed through the hard rock as easily as if the latter had been formed of some ductile substance. The earth shook, and an angel in the garb of a warrior descended from Heaven with the speed of lightning, entered the tomb, lifted the stone, placed it on the right side, and seated himself upon it. At this tremendous sight the soldiers fell to the ground, and remained there apparently lifeless. At the very moment in which the angel entered the sepulchre and the earth quaked, I saw our Lord appear to his holy Mother on Calvary. The souls of the patriarchs bowed down before the Mother of our Saviour, and Jesus spoke to her concerning his Resurrection. He showed her his wounds; and Mary prostrated to kiss his sacred feet; but he took her hand, raised her, and disappeared.
