We know that the time leading up to the April 15th federal dialysis certification deadline has been stressful for everyone in the dialysis field. We thank all recent exam applicants for selecting BONENT as their certification, and all BONENT Members for maintaining their certification!
You’ll be proud to tell your peers that you are now “BONENT Certified!”
BONENT Certification Ensures a Standard of KnowledgeThe BONENT certification ensures that you have met certain core competencies that measure a standard of knowledge considered desirable for nephrology practitioners and it:
• Increases your ability to provide the highest quality care to patients in the unit;
• Carries the distinction of the title CHT, CHN, or CPDN;
• Provides personal satisfaction from your performance;
• Enhances your resumé, which may result in preferential consideration for promotion or salary increases;
• Presents opportunities for continued professional growth through recertification programs;
Several Thousand Applications ProcessedAs you can imagine, this period has also been extremely hectic for our BONENT staff. We thank them for:
• Providing information to over a hundred applicants daily
• Processing several thousand applications in the last 18 months: • Ensuring that all applications are filled in properly • Checking all supporting documentation • Following up with incomplete applications
• Coordinating with our BONENT Proctors (see list on page 3)
• Working with our testing organization to administer exams in over 275 locations in the U.S. and around the world – in both Paper & Pencil Exams (PPE) and Computer Based Testing (CBT).
This has been a long process since CMS announced the certifica-tion deadline, but it has ensured meaningful training and creden-tialing of nephrology practitioners – something that is at the core of the BONENT philosophy.
Thank you to the following BONENT members who were Paper & Pencil Exam (PPE) proctors from January 2009 to March 2010. They gave of their time to oversee a BONENT exam and help their peers reach the status of “BONENT certified member.”

This booklet will explain the BONENT recertification process. Keep this booklet to track your courses and contact
hours. You do not have to submit this booklet unless you are audited, or your certification has expired.
To Recertify: You will need to cut out and complete the Recertification Application on page 8 of this booklet and mail it
to the BONENT Executive Office. Do not mail the entire booklet unless you are audited, or if your certification has expired.
Expired Certification or Audit: You will have to submit this completed booklet along with copies of completion
and other required documentation reflecting contact hours to the BONENT Executive Office. Faxed or photocopied
recertification booklets will NOT be accepted. The information submitted will be reviewed to determine if it is prop-
erly documented and whether it meets BONENT recertification criteria. When this process is satisfactorily complet-
ed, certification for an additional four years will be awarded and a wallet card will be issued to you.
FEES:Current: There is no fee to recertify as long as your BONENT annual certification fee is current.
Lapsed Certification (within 12 months of your certification expiration date):
- $100 Lapsed Certification Fee + outstanding Annual Certification Fees.
Expired Certification (from 1 to 8 years of your certification expiration date):
- $200 Expired Certification Fee.
NOTE: A $30 Incomplete Recertification Fee is assessed to individuals who do not submit completed
documentation.

FROM THE PRESIDENT
Adding to our Services to Meet the Needs of Our New MembershipDear Members,
Now that the deadline for certification of dialysis technicians has passed and having tripled in our membership base, we need to focus on the road ahead — on how BONENT will position itself to continue to serve the needs of the nephrology community.
This road must be paved with all the efforts of all the members and leadership who bring different skill sets, interests, points of view and clinical experiences.
We want to become a better, stronger and more efficient organiza-tion. I will be proposing a steering committee at the next board meeting this month to work collaboratively - thinking outside the box, working on new ideas that will place us ahead of organizations that offer similar services.
The major steps we take will be planned with achievable objectives and a reasonable timeline.
We will continue to preserve our essential mission of providing certification that will ensure the competency of nephrology practitioners and improve patient care.
It is clear that we must work quickly and intelligently to increase and retain our current mem-bership. Send me your ideas on how we can pave the road ahead
