Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District
Executive Summary
Section 1
Executive Summary
Overall
With September came the beginning of the school year, students & staff returning, and buildings back in normal use. The amount of construction taking place throughout the District has significantly slowed down
and is again taking place on second shift. In general, the project has been progressing very well and financially is on track. Below is a listing of some of the highlights from the month, but does not include all
of the work performed.
Phase 1B
The Phase 1B buildings, with the exception of Franklin, are completed with their scheduled work. All contractors are working on their deficiency and punch lists on second shift. The close-out process
continues to progress with the approval of Operations & Maintenance Manuals, As-Built Drawings and the turn-over of attic stock, with any remaining training sessions being coordinated with the District.
At Franklin, in addition to the items mentioned above, the Staging Area was cleared and is being restored to its original state. Inside the building, the HVAC contractor continues to install convector heating systems in select hallways and stairwells, with the expectation of completion in October.
Phase 1C
Kenmore West High School’s building-wide emergency lighting and fire alarm system upgrades continue to progress on second shift. The concrete & stair work outside the “new” gym was completed and the
permanent railing system is expected to arrive and be installed by mid-October. Deficiency & punch list work is being completed by all contractors throughout the fall.
Kenmore Middle School’s deficiency & punch list work is being completed by all contractors. Preparation for next summer’s HVAC work on the east-side of the building, is taking place on second shift. Masonry restoration continues on the exterior of the building until the weather degrades to freezing conditions.
Emergency lighting and fire alarm system upgrades continue throughout the building.
At Hoover, preparations for the upcoming school year work are being made throughout the building by the district staff and contractors. It’s anticipated that classrooms will begin their “shuffle” at the beginning of
November, to allow heating system installation throughout the school year. Permanent railings were installed at the Middle School Library stairs, Entry 16 ramp, and the new exit in the Middle School Girls’
Locker Room. The continuation of emergency lighting and fire alarm system upgrades, as well as deficiency and punch list work, is ongoing throughout the building. The Auditorium opened for District use,
with the dimmer rack, spot-lights & wall sconce installation continuing on second shift.
Phase 1D
The Design Team submitted the Phase 1D District-wide phone replacement submission to SED for approval in September. It’s anticipated that both the original submission and the phone package will
obtain SED approval this upcoming spring and will be in construction for the summer of 2014.
Financial
The project budget currently has $750,182 remaining in Construction Contingency. Overall, the finances for the project are in good shape, with protection available for unforeseen conditions that could possibly
arise during the course of the remaining construction. See Section 2 of this report for further financial details.
Schedules
All work is advancing per the established construction schedules, as originally planned. Campus is working with the contractors to coordinate the remaining Phase 1C scheduled work for the current school year and the summer of 2014, taking into account any District activities, breaks, and testing schedules. A
finalized schedule will be available by mid-October.
