RESUME’

Jerry and Donna Robey

November 18, 2015

We are submitting this resume’ for the position of President of the United Square Dancers of America. We would be honored to serve the square dance community in this capacity, for a second term, if elected.

We began square dancing in October of 2005 upon Jerry’s retirement to Florida from Northern Illinois where he was a United Methodist Minister and CEO of a retirement complex in Freeport, Illinois. As a homemaker, Donna is proud of our 5 adult children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. After living in Florida for about 10 years, we decided it was time to return to our roots in Rockford, Illinois which is now our permanent home.

Square dancing has become our passion and we quickly found ourselves deeply involved in several clubs in and around Gainesville, Florida where we served in almost all capacities. We represented our Gainesville club as delegates to the Northeast Florida Square and Round Dance Association (NEFSARDA) where we soon became Treasurers for a three year term. We represented NEFSARDA as delegates to the Florida Federation of Square and Round Dancers. The Florida Federation asked us to represent Florida as delegates to the United Square Dancers of America. (USDA)

While serving as delegates to USDA, we were introduced to the USDA Traveler program. Since that time, we have danced in all 50 states promoting USDA as we have traveled the country. We were challenged by fellow dancers to “do it again” and we have now danced in all 50 states for a “second time around”. In our travels, we met many other dancers who were also campers. As such, we soon found ourselves a part of the square dance/camper community where we have served in a variety of positions. In 2013, we were elected as the Vice Presidents of the National Square Dance Campers Association, (NSDCA) where we currently serve.

In 2011 we were elected as USDA Vice Presidents of the Central Region. We served in that capacity for our full three year term until June of 2014. During our three year term as Vice Presidents, we were able to attend the annual square dance conventions in 11 of the 12 states in the central region. In June of 2014, we remained on the USDA executive committee and were appointed as chairmen of the Ways and Means Committee, and the Showcase of Ideas Committee. In 2015, we were elected as Presidents of USDA for our first term.

We have attended the National Square Dance Conventions every year (except one) since we began dancing. Today, we square dance through the advanced level as well as phase II & III round dances. While at the National Conventions, we have completed the Leadership Certification program twice. In 2010 we were honored by the Northeast Florida Square and Round Dance Association as the “dance couple of the year”.

Dear Nominating Committee of United Square Dancers of America,

It is my pleasure to recommend Lisa Breault for a second term as Vice-President of the Eastern Region of United Square Dancers of America. Lisa continues to stay active in square dancing. She maintains all positions listed in my previous recommendation, and has even managed to add another to her long list of commitments. She is now the Secretary for the 58th & 59th New England Square and Round Dance Convention.

Lisa is a hard worker who wants the activity to survive and grow. She is conscientious and detail-oriented in her work towards those goals. It has been said that if you want something done, ask a busy person. Lisa is very busy but she gets the job done! I would be honored to have her serve as the Vice-President of the Eastern Region of United Square Dancers of America.

If you have any further questions, please contact me at [email protected] or (860)653-0621.

Sincerely yours,

Rita M. Wood

President

Resume for Ed and Lynda Willis

Ed and Lynda began square dancing sometime during the late ‘70’s in Charleston, West Virginia in a class taught by Francis Shriver. They wanted to learn because Ed’s mom and dad were avid square dancers in Delaware, dancing at several clubs, several nights a week. They completed the class and danced with the club a couple times, but were never invited to join. They lost interested and gave up square dancing. Thirty years later they took lessons at the ‘76ers club in Wilmington and relearned to dance under caller Tom Wallace. It took them a couple years before graduating. Most of their class dropped out, so they started again with a new class. Meanwhile, they went to dances and danced. While taking lessons at the ‘76ers they also took private round dance lessons from Sophia Moxley.

They served as president of the ‘76ers for two years and are proud to have taken the club from almost bankruptcy to showing a nice profit. They hosted two large new dancer classe4s and grew the club in members. They hosted a Federation Dance and a very successful Hospice Dance. They discovered the Folk, Round and Square Dance Federation of North Carolina and began attending regional dances and meetings and worked to promote the Federation to club members.

Then they joined the Camping Squares Square Dance Club. They really enjoy this group and have made many great friends. During Amateur Weekend, Ed tried a singing call and became hooked on calling. He has been working under the direction of caller Monk Moore and has joined the North Carolina Callers Association as an associate member.

They were asked to take over as chairpersons for the USDA insurance program in 2011. They have held this position for four years. They have updated the system to almost paperless, saving the Federation money on paper and mailing costs. They assumed this responsibility from a couple whose ethics hey value and friendship they cherish.

They have attended the National Square Dance Conventions in St. Louis, Detroit, Spokane, Oklahoma City, Little Rock and Springfield. They are registered to attend the convention in Des Moines.

They served the 64th National Square Dance Convention as Vice-Chairmen of Media on the Publicity Committee.

Ed is an active member of the Wilmington Kiwanis Club. The Club supports the Brigade Boys and Girls Club and funds scholarships to two local colleges. The Wilmington Kiwanis Club has recently completed the Kiwanis Playground at a new city park. A section of that playground is Miracle Field, a ball field for the handicapped, one of the first in the nation.

They both volunteer once a month through Kiwanis at a food pantry.

Ed retired after serving 40 years in the newspaper industry. His last position was Director of Information Technology Systems for the Wilmington Star News which was affiliated with the New York Times.

Resume for Floyd and Judy Engelhardt, Plains Region May 16, 2016 We are Floyd and Judy Engelhardt from LeSueur MN, with a family of 4 sons and 10 grandchildren. We started square dancing in 1971, with very small children, as an evening out. We continued to dance, and later so did the kids, until 1988 when our local club in LeSueur folded. We were busy with teen age activities, and although we didn't intend to, we dropped out of square dancing for 10 years. When we returned to dancing and the St. Peter MN club, we saw a national directory and discovered that we could travel and dance in other places. That was fun to do, and we then had more time to travel, dance and eventually work on the USDA traveler badge. The traveler program is what interested us in USDA to start with, and sometimes we were MN delegates. Usually we attended the June meetings if we were delegates or not. In January of 2015, Jerry and Donna Robey asked us if we would consider running for plains region vice president. We saw them at the Hawaii festival in Honolulu, where we were getting Hawaii signed off for the second time around. We agreed to give it a try and were elected at the June 2015 meeting. With the convention in Springfield, Mass. that year, we danced in 11 more states toward the traveler badge, second time around. We are now at 49, and we need just Alaska again. But we are too busy this year, trying to visit the 13 states in our plains region, attending festivals, conventions and other events. We also round dance a lot - at home, while traveling, and as "Winter Texans" in the Rio Grande Valley. We sometimes travel in our small motorhome, and belong to Wandering Wheels, an NSDCA camping club. We are enjoying our job and would be glad to continue for our second year if we are again elected to the position.
