A MINDSET OF SERVICE - July 21st

There’s a lot of traveling, delivering, and visiting going on in our readings today. In Genesis Abraham cares for the needs of three mysterious travelers. The psalm responds, celebrating the kind of righteousness that Abraham practices. Then, in his letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul describes his own ministry as almost like a delivery service: he, God’s steward, brings the word of God to their community. Finally, Luke’s Gospel shares the well-known story of Mary and Martha, and the different ways they welcome Jesus into their home. Amid all this coming and going, we are invited to pay attention to the ways we tend to the needs of others. Each of us can ask, How am I present to God and others in my life? Copyright © J. S. ASKING FOR HELP - July 28th

The Beatitudes praise the poor in spirit. One characteristic of those who are poor in spirit is their ability to ask for help; they know when others can provide what they lack. Today’s readings encourage us to practice poverty in spirit by asking God for what we need. What could be more natural than to ask God for good things? God is, after all, the inventor of goodness and the giver of all good things. Asking God for help puts us in conversation with God. These conversations take many forms. The reading from Genesis shows Abraham bantering with God like a skilled negotiator, while Saint Paul’s letter to the Colossians praises God for answering us even when we don’t deserve it. In Saint Luke’s Gospel, Jesus not only gives us words to use in our conversations with God (the Our Father), but also promises that God always listens to our prayers. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOURNEY WITH US

THROUGH THE RCIA:

Are you, or someone you know thinking about

entering into full communion in the Catholic Church?

Perhaps this summer you will come across a friend or

family member who has questions about our Catholic

faith. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

is a sacramental process in which inquirers can come to

learn more about our faith, and candidates are fully

initiated into the Catholic Church. We will begin

meeting on Tuesday evenings this fall from 7-9 p.m.

You are most welcome to be a part of this wonderful

faith journey with us. We will be praying for you as you

continue to discern God’s call for your life. Information

leaflets are available at the entrances of the Church.

Please pick one up for yourself or for someone you

know who might be interested in joining us on this

wonderful spiritual journey. For more information,

please contact Virginia Eade at 519-627-2013 ext. 227.

SHRINE DAYS: You are invited to attend

the Special Shrine Days August 13th-

22nd at Our Lady of the Rosary London

Diocesan Shrine located at St. Patrick’s

Church, 5773 10th Line, Merlin. Each

day begins at 11:00 a.m. with the

celebration of Mass followed by prayers

for the sick, lunch, Rosary Procession and Adoration.

It ends around 3:00 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair

and your own lunch as nothing is sold at the Shrine.
