Expo 19 in review-David Bywater

Once again, thank you to all the members of our group who put in the effort to make this year’s expo such a success. The

demonstrators, the raffle ticket sellers, the sales desk, those who explained the club challenge, all who put on a smiling face

and entertained and talked to the public during their visit.

The result of everyone doing their part was that we were seen by the community to be a vibrant club where each member

is valued and shares their particular skills with others. Following on from this came a number of enquiries regarding

membership – people want to be part of a group like ours.

One of the centrepieces of our exhibition is the Club Challenge. This year sponsored by Luke Reurich of All Class Timber

Services. A small but varied collection of work, demonstrating different skills and interests was presented for perusal by the

public.

The winning entry as judged by Luke was the “Asa-no-ha” side table by David Bywater, with the runner up “Spitfire” by Ray

White.

The Peoples Choice award, as voted for by the public, brought the same result.

Thankyou to the members who generously donated the prizes for the raffle

Winners of the raffle prizes were –

Joy Adam from Sydney – Turned Bowl with Fruit

Marcia Neilson from Corrimal – Small Mantle Clock

David Jenkinson from Huskisson – Carved Trout

All the prize winners were excited about their win, and each one expressed their enjoyment of having attending the expo.

Each was enthusiastic about the range of products on display, the tools and timber, but more importantly being able to see

what we do and talk with the members to glean tips and information with regard to their own woodworking interests.

Sales of items went reasonably well over the weekend and the “offcuts” table brought in a tidy sum. Along with donations

from John and Luke, we can safely say that we have covered our costs.

The final figures will be delivered by the treasurer at the next meeting when all the accounting has been done.

Dates for the 2020 expo have been booked - so mark the 7th and 8th of March in your calendars.

Luke has given a commitment to be involved as he sees our expo as an important local showcase and will be sponsoring the

club challenge again.+

Well done everyone.
